Orissa may become Odhisha

NEW DELHI: In the monsoon session of Parliament, the Centre plans to push through several pending legislations, including formal change in the name of Orissa to Odisha and Oriya language to Odia.
The proposed change requiring an amendment in the first and eighth Schedule of the Constitution will be put before Parliament, sources said. The Union Cabinet had cleared the proposed amendment without a discussion in October 2009 after Orissa Assembly moved a resolution in August to change the state’s name to Odisha and its official language to Odia.
The set of legislative amendments and introduction of new Bills also include Landports Authority Bill, amendment in the Criminal Procedure Code(CrPC) and proclamation of President’s rule in Jharkhand.
