Consult Opp before inking new Posco MoU: BJP to Naveen
Bhubaneswar,visakeo
The BJP on Wednesday urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the provisions of the fresh MoU before signing it with Posco for setting up of the proposed Rs 52,000-crore steel project and a captive port near Paradip.
Throwing a challenge at Patnaik senior BJP leader and former Industries Minister Biswa Bhushan Harichandan said here at a Press conference, “If the Chief Minister believes in democratic norms in matters of governance, he should first of all answer the queries of the people relating to the mega steel project and then proceed for the deal.”
Harichandan questioned the propriety of the State Government in undertaking land acquisition for the company in the absence of any MoU which has already expired.
The former Industry Minister vehemently opposed the swapping clause which allows the company to export 30 per cent of iron ore on the plea of high alumina content and demanded it to be scrapped.
On the proposed Captive Port near the mouth of Jatadhari, the BJP leader said that it would pose a security threat to the country and to the State as well. “Besides, the port will also affect the public sector Paradip Port and destroy its commercial and financial viability” he cautioned.
