Kochi : An NIA special court Friday sentenced 13 people to life imprisonment on charges of recruiting young men from Kerala for terrorist camps in Jammu and Kashmir.
National Investigation Agency (NIA) special judge S. Vijayakumar had Tuesday held the 13 guilty of waging war against the nation but let off five others for lack of evidence.
Of the 13, four were handed out a double life term. They included T. Nazeer, the self-styled south India chief of the terrorist group, Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The case came to light in 2008 when four Kerala youths were shot dead by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Nazeer was arrested in 2009 close to the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya.
Nazeer is already serving a life sentence for the 2006 Kozhikode twin bomb blasts.

Combining Temples with Toilets is improper & Imprudent - – VHP Vishwa Hindu Parishad
New Delhi, October 4, 2013
VHP Vishwa Hindu Parishad feels that combining Temples with toilets was unnecessary while mentioning the importance of toilets. As we have already said, all are working towards better health & hygiene of Bharat. VHP Vishwa Hindu Parishad runs hundreds of Health Projects under its Sewa Department. However, referring to Temples as a lower choice than toilets was unnecessary as well as improper & VHP Vishwa Hindu Parishad is sad & shocked by this. Such uncalled for remarks combining toilets & temples hurt Hindu faith.

swami laxmanananda murder case life term for 8 men

          Dr. Laxmikant Dash
BBSR – 03.10.2013 – Dr Laxmikant Dash, Secretary  Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati Shradhanjali Samiti, hailed  the life imprisonment and penalty of 8 convicts  in the murder case of Swami Laxmanananda and his four associates but blames the government for its failure  to nab the conspirators and killers of Swamiji after 5 years.
Sri Arun Ray, then I.G. Crime Branch in his Press conference on 6th October, 2008 has stated that one group has conspired and engaged another group for killing of Swami Laxmanananda. Though a few of the murders has been nabbed and convicted the main culprits like Sabyasachi Panda and Main Conspirators of church groups are still at-large, as the Govt. seems not interested for it. All though Hon’able Odisha High Court has directed the investigating agency to take a lead on the evidences supplied by the informant, no steps has been taken in that direction, which clearly indicates the Govt. pressure to protect the culprits. The investigating officer has been rewarded with promotion and police medal for safe-guarding the culprits, which is a public discussion in Khandhamal. It is an eye wash of the government in convicting some culprits hurriedly, when the main accused are not yet booked.

Bhagyanagar, October 3, 2013: Stunned & shocked at unnecessary reference to Temples while speaking about Toilets by BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate & Gujarat CM Shri Narendra Modi ji, VHP condemned the statement by Shri Modi ji, said a press release.
VHP International Working President Dr Pravin Togadia said, “While we believe in the need for better hygiene for all in Bharat, bringing in Temples in the statement & putting Toilets ahead of Temples was uncalled for & is an insult to the Hindu society. When the Congress leader Shri Jayaram Ramesh had made such a statement comparing Toilets& Temples, BJP had condemned his statement. We expect BJP to do the same in their Prime Ministerial candidate’s statement not only comparing toilets with temples but putting toilets ahead of temples.”

Phulbani: Eight persons, including a Maoist leader, were on Thursday sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment by a court in Kandhamal district for the murder of senior VHP leader Laxmanananda Saraswati and four others in 2008 that triggered communal violence leaving 37 dead.

Additional District Judge Rajendra Kumar Tosh, who had earlier convicted the eight persons, also imposed Rs 10,000 fine on each of them while pronouncing the quantum of punishment amid tight security in the communally sensitive district.

In case of inability to pay the penalty, the convicts would have to undergo an additional jail term of 18 months, Public Prosecutor Anil Kumar Pradhan said.

Of the eight convicts, Pulari Rama Rao alias Uday, a Maoist leader from Andhra Pradesh, had been held guilty by the court on October 1 for the murder of Saraswati and four of his disciples, during Janmastami festival on August 23, 2008, at an ashram in Kandhamal district.

The court had acquitted Somanath Dandasena for want of evidence the same day.

On September 30, the court had convicted seven persons - Gadanath Chalanseth, Bijaya Kumar Shyamseth, Buddha Nayak, Sanatan Badamajhi, Duryadhan Sunamajhi, Bhaskar Sunamajhi and Munda Badamajhi.

The verdict came after the court examined 32 witnesses and other evidences, Pradhan said, adding the prosecution had sought death sentence.

Besides murder and criminal conspiracy, they were convicted for offences including rioting with deadly weapons and unlawful assembly. They were also held guilty under several provisions of the Arms Act.

Of the 14 persons chargesheeted in the case, nine were arrested while five are still at large. They are Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda, Dasana, Lalu, Lakhu and Azad alias Tuna.

The gunning down of Saraswati and his disciples had triggered communal violence leaving 37 dead and a large number of houses and places of worship damaged in Kandhamal. The four others killed in the attack were Mata Bhaktimayee, Krutananda Baba, Kishore Baba and Puranjana Guntha.

In order to prevent any untoward incident during court verdict, elaborate security arrangements had been made across the district amid deployment of around 1200 security personnel and thorough checking at sensitive and vulnerable locations.

7 convicted in Swami Laxmanananda murder case

Phulbani: The Phulbani additional district & sessions court on Monday convicted seven persons in connection with Swami Laxamanananda Saraswati’s murder case. The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on October 3.
Additional District Judge Rajendra Kumar Tosh found the seven guilty and reserved the order for pronouncement of the quantum of punishment for October three.
The court is scheduled to deliver the verdict in case of two other accused Pulari Rama Rao and Somanath Dandasena in the case tomorrow.
The seven convicted are Gadanath Chalanseth, Bijaya Kumar Shyamseth, Buddha Nayak, Sanatan Badamajhi, Duryadhan Sunamajhi, Bhaskar Sunamajhi and Munda Badamajhi. Besides murder and criminal conspiracy, the seven were convicted under different provisions of IPC for offences including rioting with deadly weapons and unlawful assembly.
They were also held guilty under several provision of the Arms Act.
In view of possible tension, the district administration has tightened security in and around the court.
In 2008, Saraswati and four of his followers were gunned down on August 23 while celebrating Janmastami festival at Jalespata Ashram of Chakapada in Kandhamal, a tribal-dominated district.
The Hindu seer’s killing had led to widespread communal violence in Kandhamal claiming at least 38 lives, burning of several houses and damage to many churches.
More than 25,000 Christians were forced to flee their homes after their houses were attacked by mobs, who accused Christians for killing Saraswati.
Notably, twenty-five persons allegedly involved in the Kandhamal communal riots were acquitted by a local court in June 2012 due to lack of proper evidence against them.
In November last, a fast-track court in Phulbani had sentenced 12 people to six years' imprisonment after they were convicted of being involved in the riots.

Thousands attend ‘Dharma and Yoga Fest’ to celebrate Swami Vivekananda’s 150th birth anniversary
San Francisco: The yearlong commemoration of Swami Vivekananda in America, on his 150th birth anniversary, came to a magnificent culmination, with over 15,000 people attending the ‘Dharma and Yoga fest’ in the San Francisco Bay Area.  The unique event that celebrated the key ideals of Hindu spirituality were organized jointly by Hindu SwayamsevakSangh USA, Sunnyvale Hindu Temple and Fremont Hindu Temple in association with 40 other organisations.

Swami Vivekananda, the Hindu monk from India, is credited with introducing Yoga to the American masses. His famous speech at the Parliament of World Religions in Chicago in 1893, where he spoke of Universalism and Pluralism made Yoga very popular in America.
The events showcased the four pathways of Yoga to Americans; namely Jnana, Bhakti, Raja and Karma. “We designed parallel tracks representing all four yogas to help in the holistic understanding of the practice of Yoga which forms the basis of pluralism which Swamiji emphasized.” said  VijaySimha of Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh.

While the Jnana Yoga track saw speakers and panel discussions on various aspects of spirituality, Bhakti Yoga unfolded itself through the rendering of devotional music by famous American and Indian kirtan singers. Yoga, guided meditation and stress management sessions were facilitated in the Raja Yoga track and Karma Yoga track brought out the spirit of selfless service through talks by well known Social Entrepreneurs and Social workers along with camps for blood donation and bone marrow registry.
Apart from the four Yoga tracks the ‘Hindu Experience’ track introduced the attendees to Hindu practices lived in daily life such as ‘AtithiDevoBhava’ where the guests are honored as God, VasudhaivaKutumbakam – the belief that the whole world is one family and Runa – the concept of being indebted to nature, ancestors and teachers. The other parallel activities included a Hindu Theme park for children and a Youth fest that saw a colorful Ganesh procession, dances, skits and ‘Ten minute talks’ attended by University students and young professionals.
The main event in the evening was enlivened by a grand musical skit on Krishna enacted by over 250 children of Balagokulam and musical performances by American Kirtan singer M C Yogi and famous Indian singer AnuradhaPaudwal.
Delivering the keynote speech, SaumitraGokhale, International coordinator of Hindu SwayamsevakSangh USA, talked of how the practice of Dharma and Yoga inculcates the values of love and responsibility and celebrates the cherished values of American Constitution, namely; Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness.

TulsiGabbard, the first Hindu Congresswoman, who popularly took her oath as Congresswoman on the Bhagavad Geeta, said that she felt blessed to have been brought up with the Hindu practices of Bhakti and Karma Yoga and that these principles had provided her with the courage and inspiration in the most insurmountable of challenges. Parthasarathy, the Counsel General, Indian Embassy, San Francisco, commended the Hindu community for organizing such an enriching event and talked of how Swami Vivekananda’s message transcended the distinctions of race, religion and nationality.

The Text of Memorandum is given below:

To
Shri Pranab Mukherjee,
His Excellency,
The President of Bharat
Rashtrapati Bhavan,
New Delhi.
Delegation of FINS, submitted memorandum to President of India
Delegation of FINS, submitted memorandum to President of India
Subject :- MEMORANDUM ABOUT BORDER PROBLEMS & SOLUTION
Sir,
1.      Forum For Integrated National Security (FINS) is a non political, non religious social organization. Retired defence personnel including paramilitary officers, retired bureaucrats, diplomats, journalists and retired Judges are the members of this organization. The objective of the organization is to study the national security issues and apprise and assist the government, while creating awareness among the general public.
2.      Last year (FINS) along with other social organizations engaged with the similar activities like Poorva Sainik Seva Parishad (PSSP) and Seema Jagaran Manch (SJM) had undertaken a study of our borders with the aim of creating awareness among the masses about the challenges on our borders. Accordingly a visit named sharhad ko parnam to border areas from 20th to 22nd November, 2012 was organized with the participation of about ten thousand youth from all parts of the country. During the three days visit 3155 border villages of Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh were covered and 4 lac villagers contacted including defense and paramilitary personnel  . It was ensured that teams from their parent state were sent to a different state so that they could get a varied exposure. A human chain at 437 places along the border involving a total of about one lakh people was formed to express solidarity and resolve to defend the borders. Total length of the chain was about 95 kms.  Some salient points of the visit are given below for your kind consideration;
SECURITY RELATED ISSUES ON THE BORDER
RSS Functionary Indresh Kumar speaks on the Memorandum submitted
RSS Functionary Indresh Kumar speaks on the Memorandum submitted
3. Bharat-Pak Border
(a)        Unprovoked firing from across the border in J&K Sector, smuggling of contraband goods, fake currency, illegal migration and infiltration by terrorists etc. is a regular feature. The people staying in the border villages suffer loss of life and property. There is a need to strengthen our security and compensate the people for losses.
(b)        Land of the farmers of the border villages was acquired for fencing along the border. Compensation is yet to be paid.
(c)        It is recommended that ex-servicemen be allotted land in border areas. This will help in improving the security, while providing them the shelter.
4. Bharat-Nepal Border
(a)        The border between Bharat and Nepal is porous. Even the boundary pillars between Tanakpur (UKD) and Bhikhanathori (Bihar) have been deliberately removed by unsocial elements. Therefore,            Infiltration of criminals, Pak citizens and terrorists, human trafficking, smuggling of illegal weapons, drug and fake currency into Bharat and smuggling of cattle (Cow and Buffalows) out of Bharat has become a regular feature. Most of the times, it is done with the connivance of border security personnel and custom authorities. This calls for strong vigilance and security along the border.
(b)        Nepal has been a safe hide-out for criminals and terrorists, who slip out into Nepal after committing crimes in India. This requires immediate attention in consultation with Nepal government.
5. Bharat-Bangladesh Border
(a)        Illegal migration from across the border has not only changed the demography of Bharat, it has deprived the locals of their livelihood and reduced the chances of their employment. These Infiltrators have forcibly occupied their agricultural land. They have also spread over other parts of the country and indulge in anti social and anti national activities. They need to be identified and deported back to Bangladesh.
(b)        Illegal trade continues at the border villages. Cattle including cows and even Camels are smuggled out from various points at the border.
(c)        Entire Bharat-Bangladesh border needs to be fenced to check illegal migration, trade and smuggling etc.
(d)       Disputes concerning land and water issues need to be resolved on priority. Bangladesh needs to be pressurized through diplomatic channels not to provide shelter to terrorists and criminals from India.
            6. Bharat-Myanmar Border
The porous and open border between Bharat and Myanmar facilitates smugglers, Naxals and separatist groups to slip out into Myanmar after committing crime in our country. Therefore, the border needs to be provided better security and border villages need to be developed.
            7. Bharat- Bhutan Border
Bhutan is a friendly nation. It should be ensured that criminals and anti national do not get shelter in Bhutan.
            8. Bharat-Tibet (China) Border
(a)        China is a hegemonic nation. In 1962, she attacked India and occupied 38,000 sq kms of our territory and further laid claim over a large area of 90,000 sq kms. She forcibly occupied Tibet which was an autonomous region. She has designs to take over Ladakh, Sikkim, Bhutan, Arunachal Pradesh and Nepal.  China has been carrying out border violations both by ground and by air. She intruded recently deep inside Ladakh (Depsang) area, set up camps and refused to vacate. It has also carried out similar violations in Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan. Our meek response to these violations has emboldened China to carry out more and more incursions while at the same time adversely affecting the moral of our security personnel. It continues nibbling into our territory. Defence and foreign policies need to be revised and our defence preparedness increased. We should face these challenges from a position of strength.
(b)        We need to develop tourist spots in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh near the LAC e.g. Demchouk, Nuebra in Ladakh and Tawang and Walong in Arunachal. We have already started ‘Sindhu Darshan Utsav’ in Ladakh and started yatra to Tawang with great success. We also start Kailash Yatra via demchouk.
(c)        Border villages of Ladakh are very backward. They lack basic infrastructure and source of livelihood. There are no employment opportunities. They are neglected by state government and even the central government does not care for their welfare. They understand and speak Chinese language and as such are a very valuable source of information. Government must look after them and use them for intelligence gathering..
9. DEVELOPMENT ISSUES ON THE BORDER
(a)        The basic infrastructure and facilities are lacking in most of the border villages. Proper roads between the border villages and between village and tehsil/district headquarters are not there. A large number of villages are without electricity.  The schools are without proper building and adequate teaching staff. Medical facilities are almost none existent. In the absence of hospitals in the close vicinity, people have to trek long distances.
(b)        There are no employment opportunities for the people living in these villages. Agriculture seems to be the only source of livelihood, which also suffers from the lack of proper and adequate irrigation facilities.
(c)        The communication facilities are totally inadequate. It is an inescapable necessity for the development of border villages.
10. RECOMMENDATIONS
We would like to make the following recommendations for your kind consideration;
(a)        Our international borders are demarcated and defined. We should not say that our borders are disputed or undefined. In fact our neighbors and USA also, have occupied our land. We should resolve to take our land back from these countries.
(b)        Each village is a very valuable source of intelligence information. The people need to be trained and motivated to perform this activity. Some kind of incentive and remuneration may be considered by the authorities. There is a need to establish industries in the border areas and generate self employment. Formation of ‘Village Defence Committees’and‘Village Development Committees’ is strongly recommended.
(c)        For better development of the Border Areas and better coordination between Security forces and people staying in these border villages, a ‘BORDER MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY’ needs to be constituted, which should have representatives from the villages, security agencies and state border administration.
(d)       Proper carpeted roads need to be constructed and maintained regularly up to the border villages. This will facilitate our defence forces in the movement of logistics and personnel and will also help in the development of border villages..
(e)        Generally the illegal trade, smuggling and cross border infiltration takes place at night. Therefore, provision of electricity for the border areas should be taken up on priority.
(f)      Communication facilities both landline and mobile should be provided to all the border   villages. A clause may be inserted while granting licence to service providers stating that they have to provide communication facilities to the border villages.
(g)       The state and district authorities may be directed to ensure proper and adequate education facilities including building, teaching staff etc. for each village within their jurisdiction. Proper arrangements for counseling should also be made.
(h)     Medical services need special attention. The states may be directed to ensure that each village has some kind of medical facilities and suitable hospital at appropriate distance is established.
11.       May we request your kind indulgence for the implementation of the above recommendations for enhancing the security of our borders and development of border villages.
Yours sincerely,
Members of delegation
