Kerala witnessed an allegation against AMMA-Matha Amritanandamayi Devi.
Gail Tredwell alias Gayatri, who was Amma’s attendant for two decades since early 1980s, in her recently published ‘Holy Hell’ — A Memoir of Faith, Devotion and Pure Madness, alleged sexual exploitation and promiscuity involving senior ashram members. Australia-born Gail ‘Gayatri’ Tredwell in her book “Holy hell: A Memoir of Faith, Devotion and Pure Madness” claims that she was a close disciple of Amma for several years and lived in the ashram before she escaped from there following bitter experiences.

She writes on her website about being an “unwilling keeper of some devastating secrets” and her escape from the ashram. The site, almost serving as a sneak-peek, does not say much about the reason of her escape, nor exactly what her bitterness she experience in her stay at the ashram.
“For two decades I lived in India and served as the personal attendant to Amma. Those intense years of faith, devotion, and pure madness have shaped who I am today and are the basis of my memoir.” At the end of 1999, I made my daring escape from the organization and fled to Hawaii.”

AMMA Says Addressing devotees at the Brahmasthanam Temple in Palakkad on Saturday, Mata Amritanandamayi said, “The working of the ashram is an open book. People come up with such rumors because they did not get what they expected from the ashram. I am trying to forgive and forget. I have never asked anyone to serve me. People are trying to bring about communal tensions,”
Hindu Leaders Gave assurance to protect All Hindutva idols without any doubt-
The barrage of vicious propaganda unleashed by a section of the visual and print media in Kerala against the Amrithananda Mayi Math is obviously motivated to bring down the high respect and reputation with which millions of people across the world hold that Spiritually Oriented Service organisation. There is a method in this madness. Any flimsy excuse is good enough for them to slander the Math and the highly revered Matha Amrithananda Mayi Devi. The unfortunate Sathnam Singh incident, which took place in a mental hospital where two inmates physically clashed leading to the death of Sathnam Singh was construed so as to blame the Math and then start a hate campaign. It miserably failed, but hostile forces have a systematic design to spread canard against the Math. Recently they have caught hold of a book published by a long-time back inmate of the Math full of lies, utter lies and absolutely no truth, to once again unleash the campaign of hatred. Freedom of expression cannot be interpreted as freedom to spread lies which hurt religious sentiments of large sections of people -says P.Parameswaran, Director Bharateeya Vichara Kendram.
All Hindu leaders P.Parameswaran,Kummanam Rajasekharan and O.Rajagopal visited Amma and enquired about the situation which are mainly planned against whole Hindu Movement of the state where Minority appeasement is a fashion without considering even Nation security.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad- today demanded that withdrawal of the controversial book written by a former disciple of spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi.
Australian born Gail Tredwell in her book “Holy hell'– a memoir of faith, devotion and pure madness’ claimed she had lived in the mutt for many years and had left after she was fed up with some bitter experiences. ”We are a civilised society and request withdrawal of the book from electronic systems. Nobody should provoke Hindu society,” VHP International General secretary Champat Rai told reporters here.
He alleged that this was part of a campaign to malign Hindu society and added that publishing of the book was ‘politically motivated’ to divide and polarise votes.
Amritanandamayi has dismissed the charges, saying the institution was an “open book” and all its functions were transparent.
She also said the math has not done anything wrong and the allegations were without merit.
Police had recently registered a case under the IT Act against some unknown persons who posted adverse comments in the social media based on the content of the book.
Social Implication-Media
The contents of the book had gone viral on social media, but prominent dailies in Kerala remained silent on the issue. Three Amma devotees filed a police compliant in Kollam district against “offensive content” on the social media.Perhaps this is the first time that a major controversy involving one of the most prominent figures in the state has been set off and sustained by the social media while the conventional media avoided it like plague.
While the mainstream print media almost entirely blacked out the development, only three TV channels – two independent groups and one affiliated to a Muslim establishment – dared to discuss the issue.
Justifiably, the media’s silence on the issue is also a raging discussion in social media. Many parts of the memoir are really damaging and scandalous with lurid details of sex, violence and greed.
Moreover it’s hard to believe that somebody, who left the establishment 15 years back could reproduce her experiences with such vivid details without keeping a daily journal. However, in a literate and politically aware society, this should have at least led to some debate. Perhaps the entire memoir is a complete figment of imagination or somebody’s bitter outburst to malign people.
Politics still using Amma for their Image?
Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Saturday said he did not think anything unlawful had happened at the mutt of Mata Amritanandamayi.
“I do not think anything took place at the mutt (which is) against the law of the land. People have to consider the services provided by the mutt to society and not the charges against it,” he told reporters at Sulthan Batheri near Kozhikode.
“As one who has witnessed and participated in its services, it is not possible for the public to ignore the great work done by the math,” Chandy added.
1.Meanwhile, CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has termed the charges against the mutt serious and demanded that an inquiry be held into the same. He also said that “Those who come to the ashramam are people who decide to give up the worldly life and the revelations made now is something different,”
The case was registered under the IT Act by the police at Karunagapally, close to Amritanandamayi’s headquarters Amritapuri at Vallikkavu in the district, based on complaints lodged by a group of her devotees, police said on Friday.
2.. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala of Congress -said the case was taken up on a complaint but the government need not bother about the content of the book.
“When there is a complaint against the postings in social networking sites, police have to register a case and conduct probe under the cyber laws. But the government need not bother about the content of the book,” Chennithala told reporters in Kochi.
