Kerala : In a damning indictment of the activities of radical outfits Popular Front of India (PFI) and National Democratic Front (NDF) in the state, the state government has submitted before the Kerala High Court that activists of the NDF/PFI were involved in 27 communally motivated murder cases, 86 attempt to murder cases and in 106 communal cases registered in the state.
The state made the submission in response to a petition filed by Intermedia Publishing Limited, challenging the decision of the government not to publish a government advertisement in the news daily ‘Thejas’. ‘Thejas’ is run by Intermedia Publishing Ltd, a public limited company based in Kozhikode. In a counter affidavit, Mary Joseph, Under Secretary to Government, Home Department, submitted that the PFI has a clandestine agenda of Islamisation of people by promoting conversion, communalisation of issues with the view to benefit Islam and recruitment of Muslim youth for undertaking actions like selective elimination of persons who are enemies of Islam. The state also pointed out the Justice Thomas P Joseph Commission report on second Marad massacre.
The report stated that NDF activists were actively involved in the planning and execution of the massacre at Marad beach on May 2, 2003.“The brutal face of the NDF/PFI was revealed to the public after the chopping off of the right hand of T J Joseph at Muvattupuzha. The modus operandi of the attack, its financial source and protection extended towards the accused in the case were extraordinary,” it said.
Many mobile SIM cards used by the accused in the palm-chopping case were taken on behalf of ‘Thejas’.
As many as 54 PFI activists, including its state/district-level leaders, were involved in the incident.
The anti-national activities of PFI were again confirmed after the arrest of 21 hardcore PFI activists from Narath. The police seized explosives, gun powder, weapons, countrymade bombs and ID cards of Republic of Iran. ‘Thejas’ had reported the incident as ‘Police arrested 21 innocent Muslim youths while they were engaged in a yoga class as part of their campaign ‘Healthy People, Healthy Nation’’.The report said that some of the board members, bureau chiefs and even the main newspaper agents of ‘Thejas’ are active workers of the PFI/SDPI.
The editorial policy of ‘Thejas’ is based on the ideology of the Popular Front of India. The newspaper creates a feeling among its readers that the government and other religions were created with the intention of fomenting communal extremism, the state alleged. The state suspected that the PFI gets huge funds through ‘India Fraternity Forum’, a forum floated as the counterpart of the NDF/PFI in Gulf countries.
“The funds are collected by propagating stories in ‘Thejas’ that the Muslim minority is being tortured in India, especially in the state,” the state submitted.
