Australian brewery juxtaposes Ganesha's face, Lakshmi's body on beer bottle
New Delhi : Brookvale Union, an Australian brewery from New South Wales has a juxtaposed image of Hindu god Ganesha's head and Hindu goddess Lakshmi's body on its ginger beer bottles.
This image has upset some Indians in Australia. "Is it just me or does anyone else find this ginger beer bottle offensive ?" asks Taneea Thapliyal from Melbourne.
Last year Oregon-based Burnside Brewing Company had to apologise following widespread outrage for naming a beer after Hindu goddess Kali.
Brookvale Union's tagline says, "Quality Nonsense". The company's website has the same juxtaposed image moving across the page and putting the cursor over the image replaces Ganesha's head with that of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
The image used on the beer bottles is a combination of various Hindu religious symbols. There is a tiger in the background and also a head of a cow while the Kamadhenu bovine-goddess from Hindu mythology sitting on a lotus and a plate of fire rises from Ganesha's head.
