In yet another attempt to woo the Muslim vote bank ahead of the November 25 Assembly poll, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee sought Governor Ram Naresh Yadav’s intervention in withdrawing cases registered against members of minority community during recent communal clashes in some cities.
The incident comes days after Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde issued a directive to all Chief Ministers to ensure that no youth from Muslim community is unduly detained.
In a memorandum to Governor, the chairman of minority cell of State Congress, Mohammad Salim said the cases were slapped at the behest of ruling party members.
Communal clashes were reported in recent past in Manasa, Neemuch and Indore cities.
Making accusations, Salim told reporters that a report by the Congress probe panel found that the persons belonging to minority community were framed by police on orders from some BJP members.
He also demanded adequate compensation to those affected in these incidents and release of those booked and arrested by police.
