MARGAO: The the Muslim community in the state is worried about how to fulfill their qurbani (sacrifice of an animal as an offering) obligations as mandated by Islam. Their apprehensions are following the laws in force preventing the slaughter of animals anywhere but at the Goa Meat Complex (GMC) abattoir at Usgao, and the high court imposing several conditions on animal slaughter at the GMC abattoir. Qurbani is performed on the day of Bakri-Id which will be observed on October 14 or 15 this year.
"The ritual of qurbani has been going on in Goa for the last many years and we had never faced any problems from other communities. As qurbani is mandatory in our religion, we urge the state government to make arrangements for qurbani for no more than three days at a designated place in South Goa," Shaikh Saidi, a businessman from Margao, said.
