Orissa Flood: Inter-ministerial team to arrive next week
Bhubaneswar, Sep 15 : An inter-ministerial team from the Centre will arrive in Orissa next week to assess the flood situation in the state which had affected 21.59 lakh people in 4098 villages and 16 Urban local bodies spread over 19 districts and claimed 38 lives.





Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today chaired a high level review meeting on the flood situation and directed the officials concerned to complete the post-flood assessment and enumeration work as per the Orissa Relief Code in the affected districts by September 25 next.

Mr Patnaik also directed that house building assistance to the affected persons be made by October 5 next and asked the officials to maintain utmost sincerity, impartiality and transparency while conducting the assessment and enumeration work.

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister S N Patro told newspersons here that the flood water had already receded from low lying areas except in certain pockets of worst-affected areas like Gopa, Kanas, Delanga in Puri district, Garadpur in Kendrapada district and Banki in Cuttack district.

Relief materials, he said, were being sent to the affected people by road and boat to almost all places except these affected areas, adding a decision on whether to continue the airdropping of food materials would be taken tomorrow judging the ground situation.

Four helicopters of Indian Navy and Air Force were pressed into service in airdropping the flood materials in the worst-affected areas and the villages marooned by the high flood in Mahanadi river system.
