As many as 56 tribal and SC families of Chhatia village had been given K-Form pattas for their land during 1971-1977 for which they had been paying tax. However, in the last few years the RI refused to accept their tax and booked encroachment cases against them. The recipients of the land had used the land for cashew nut plantation.
The villagers, to their shock, came to know that they have been dispossessed of the lands under their occupation by the district administration after the lands were transferred to the CESC Power Plant authorities. The local administration had not convened a meeting involving the dispossessed land owners and the power plant authorities to settle compensation issue.
“I think the K-Form patta holders should have been left to decide whether they want to sell the land to the company. This is unfortunate that an injustice has been meted out with the tribals and the SC people,” said Swamy and sought a detailed report from the district administration on the issue.
According to sources, the affected tribals had demanded a three-party discussions comprising CESC Mahimagadi Loser-Citizen Forum, the power plant authorities and representatives from the Government for settlement of all issues before land transferred to the company. They had held a mega rally on May 21 last under the leadership of convener of the forum Debashisha Hota.
But on June 7, the district administration had convened a tripartite meeting involving only six affected persons, which was later rejected by the affected villagers.
Forum convener Hota said, “We’re thankful to MP AV Swamy for expressing concern over our problem. However, before the lands go to the company, the Government should hold a tripartite talk involving a large number of the affected villagers.”
