Atomism of Maharsi Kanada, a book authored by college Reader Dr Narayan Mohanty, was unveiled by Sambad editor Soumya Ranjan Patnaik at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here on Thursday. The inaugural ceremony was organised by the Vashishtha Vichara Mancha to mark the birth anniversary of Dr S Radhakrishnan.
The attendees held that Kanada is the first philosopher who pointed out that every physical component is the creation of atoms. He had proved that the atoms are indivisible, invisible and thus eternal. So, Kanada is known to be the real father of the atom concept.
Former Professor of Physics in the Utkal University Dr Lambodar Prasad Singh, Registrar of the Utkal University of Culture Dr Sachindra Raul and poet Dr Sailendra Narayan Tripathy spoke at the function.
Dr Raul highlighted the distinction between the atom concept of Kanada and Greek philosopher Democritus. He further said Kanada’s atom theory is not materialistic, adding, “Kanada had accepted the existence of powers like spirit and God.”
Besides, Patnaik appreciated the effort of Dr Mohanty for bringing up to the forefront, the contribution of the country to the field of science.
Among others, Dr Pabitra Kumar Rath, Pradip Kumar Mohanty, Mancha coordinators Golakh Chandra Dash and Deepak Kumar Mohanty and convener Gourishankar Sahoo were present at the function.
