PHULBANI | in Bhubaneswar
The fifth death anniversary of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati was held here by Phulbani unit of the Viswa Hindu Parisad (VHP) in association with Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati Sradhanjali Samiti.
In this connection, a rally was organised by the VHP. Later, a meeting was held where Swami Akhilaswar Nandaji Maharaj from Jabalpur, Swamy Jibana Mukatananda from Puri, Dharma Naryan Sharma, Dr Sachin and Achyutananda Kar from Kolkata, former Judge Shivaprasad Raju, Harishchandra Pradhan, Laxana Panda, Binayak Senapti and Kamadev Kanhar spoke. Vote of thanks was given by VHP local unit secretary Ashok Das.
The leaders appealed to the Hindus to protect the religion and lamented that though five years have elapsed, the main culprits who brutally killed Swamiji were yet to be nabbed. The VHP submitted a memorandum with a charter of demands to the District Collector for President Pranab Mukharji.
Swamiji was assassinated on August 23, 2008 during a communal riot in Kandhamal at his Ashram. The demands of the VHP included immediate arrest of the assailants as well as the conspirators, ban on slaughters, recognition of cow as national animal, halt on conversion of Hindus, stringent action against persons possessing false caste certificates and withdrawal of false cases against the innocent tribals during the riot.
