Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram to hold awareness campaign on tribal rights from September 20.

Bhubaneswar: The Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram is going to start a “Janajati Adhikar Sachetanta Abhijan” throughout the State from September 20 to October 10, 2013.

Addressing a Press Conference here, General Secretary of the Ashram, Dr. Laxmikant Dash told reporters that, even after 66 years of Independence, the Schedule tribes are deprived of accessing their legitimate developmental facilities and natural rights. In order to asses such situation and create awareness among tribal population of the State about their rights on water, land, forest, rehabilitation and resettlement of displaced, the Campaign will be held on the eve of 60th Birth Anniversary of Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram and 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda with a target to reach around ten thousand tribal villages. During the Campaign, representatives will visit those villages and hold meetings to sensitize tribal people on their rights, he said.

Besides that, “We have decided to start the Centenary Celebration of the Ashram’s Founder Vanyogi Balasaheb from December 26, 2013, by organizing tribal congregations, ‘Janajati Adhikar Samabesh’ in the City, with a participation of around 50,000 Vanavasis from 26 districts of Odisha”,Working President of the Ashram Er. Jagdish Prasad Mishra said.
