BJP on Monday demanded that an independent body should be entrusted to probe the multi-crore chit fund scam to unearth the alleged involvement of the BJD Government and sought immediate removal of the Advocate General for his criminal misconduct relating to complicity with one of the chit fund kingpins.
Addressing a Press conference here, senior BJP leader and Independent MLA Pratap Chandra Sarangi alleged that some Ministers, ruling party MLAs and senior leaders and even the Advocate General had nexus with the chit fund scamsters.
Dragging Advocate General Asok Mohanty into the scam, Sarangi alleged that the AG had purchased a land along with a building from Artha Tatwa (AT) Group chairman Paradip Kuamr Sethi when cases had been already filed against him for defrauding the innocent people.
Accusing the Government of trying to hush up the case, Sarangi said there were glaring instances on the involvement of its Advocate General, Ministers and senior officials. “The chit fund kingpin Sethi in his affidavit submitted to the Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) had clarified that he had received Rs 1 crore from AG Mohanty,” Sarangi pointed out.
Sarangi said that AG Mohanty had purchased a piece of land along with a building from AT Group chief Sethi, even as a case was registered against the latter at the Baleswar Town police station on October 6, 2012 for cheating the investors. Sethi had been booked under various Sections of the IPC including 420/506/34 and under Sections 4, 5 and 6 of the Prize hit and MC Scheme Act, 1978, he said.
He said while the CDA secretary had requested the Sub-Registrar to register the lease document for the land between Mohanty and Sethi on March 24 last, Mohanty in his personal capacity had written to the CDA chief on Mach 22 last that he had taken possession of the plot no 11-3 (b) /1332 in Sector –II of Bidanasi project areas. Mohanty had also deposited Rs 2.96 lakh as transfer fee on behalf of scam tainted Sethi.
Asserting that the AG and his Private Secretary sat together with a person accused of criminal misconduct, Sarangi said that the signature of both Sethi and Mohanty were attested by the Private Secretary of the Advocate General on the same date and his official seal put on it.
The BJP leader further alleging that the AG stands guilty of camouflaging his identity throughout the period of the deal said that the AG had mentioned himself as A Mohanty, Senior Advocate , but never mentioned himself as the State’s Advocate General, a fact that he is duty bound to do.
