ANTICS OF ANTI-HINDU मीडिया

ANTICS OF ANTI-HINDU मीडिया

by Deepak Kamat

The problem with the Indian media is its inferiority complex when it comes to white skin। So anything that reeks of Hinduism deserves to be sneered while anything from Western masters should be revered। The following are the antics of the great Indian media which delights in raping news to suit its own end: 1। Always blame Hindus for communal violence ignoring the mass of evidence against Islamic and Christian perpetrators। 2। During communal violence, don’t send your cameras to the scene of minority violence, focus the archlight on majority violence only (read Modi and Bajrang Dal). 3. When Hindus react, give them generous advice like preserving peace and brotherhood — Two wrongs do not make a right. 4. When Muslims attack for any flimsy reason, give a direct apology as in the case of Muslim attack on Hindu and Deccan Herald. 5. Project the Hindu Gurus in a bad light and project them like villains even when there is not even a shred of evidence against them — Read the Shankaracharya. 6. Ignore the criminal charges against priests and missionaries - Read Graham Staines and the Church. 7. Ridicule Hindu emotions as superstitions while project the same superstitions as personal faith when it comes to the minorities. 8. Rave over Islamic superstars like Aamir Khan and Shahruk Khan while going low on Hindu heroes like Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan. 9. Always make it a point to undermine all that which makes Hindus proud of Indian tradition. 10. Make it a point to throw the spotlight on dark side of Hinduism only like caste, sati, untouchability et al.

there are more. Do point it out to me. My next book is on Exposing Indian Media and its anti-Hindu bias.

Dropout rate in primary schools up: report R. Ravikanth Reddy Transition to upper primary school records decrease

State improves its all India position from 12th to 11th in composite education development indexStudy covers 1.20 million primary and upper primary schools spread over 609 districts

HYDERABAD: Indicating that interest in school education has dipped, the dropout rate in the primary schools in the State has increased to 6.88 per cent in 2007-08 from 5.42 per cent in 2005-06. Interestingly, more number of boys seems to be disinclined to go to schools as their percentage dipped by 7.17 per cent while the girls' dropout rate is 6.58 per cent. The transition from primary to upper primary school has also decreased in the last couple of years. While it was 91.07 per cent in 2006-07 it dipped to 90.46 per cent in 2007-08 clearly reflecting that the government's priority in the education sector has moved away from school education. These figures were in the report "Elementary education in India: progress towards universal elementary education 2006-07 (2008)," released by the National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA), New Delhi few days ago. The study covered 1.20 million primary and upper primary schools spread over 609 districts across 35 States and Union Territories on all aspects of universal education. The argument that the government was promoting private players in the school education and thus moving away from its own responsibility was vindicated as its share of schools had declined to 78.97 per cent in 2007-08 from 80.09 per cent in 2006-07. Decline On the other side the share of private schools increased to 21.03 per cent from 19.91 per cent during the same period. The decline in number of schools also reflected in the student-classroom ratio. The government's inability to recruit teachers in the last five years for various reasons mirrored in the report where teachers in government schools fell to 64.23 per cent in 2007-08 from 65.52 per cent in 2006-07. On the positive front, the number of schools with computers saw an upward trend in the State with 21.11 per cent schools having computer facilities in 2007-08 compared to 18.98 per cent the previous year. The average number of classrooms also increased to 4.3 this year compared to 4.1 in 2006-07. Despite the fall in several parameters, the State had improved its all India position from 12th to 11th in the composite education development index. But this improvement is perhaps due to poor performance of other States than our own strengths. The report revealed that Kerala, Puducherry, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, and Chandigarh were the top five performing States in elementary education while Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam took the bottom five places. Express News Service First Published : 21 Jan 2009 03:00:00 AM ISTLast Updated : 21 Jan 2009 09:23:06 AM ISTHYDERABAD: He is 57-years-old, has two wives, eight children and is an expert in preparing timer devices used in explosives. But his other side is to brainwash innocent Muslims to take up `jihad' against the country and is himself an expert in making timer devices used in explosives. The State police arrested a suspected member of the terror outfit, Indian Mujahideen (IM), Abdul Sattar alias Abdul Salam, a native of Mallapuram in Kerala, who reportedly confessed to have prepared timer devices used in the bomb blasts at Bangalore and for the explosives that did not explode in Surat of Gujarat last year. The arrest was carried out jointly by the Counter Intelligence cell, with assistance from the Central Crime Station (CCS) and the Kerala police. According to police officials, Sattar, a radio mechanic, was reportedly involved in three bomb blasts in Kerala way back in 1995 and a few theft cases. ``Fearing arrest in those cases, Sattar fled to Rajasthan and stayed in Ajmer. There he came in contact with one person, Sufi and then came to Hyderabad and was staying in Bandlaguda," officials said. He was, however, frequently visiting Karnataka and Kerala. "He boasts of preparing a timer device within 25 minutes. We believe he was the missing link in the south Indian brigade of the outfit, IM and was the technical brain behind the various blasts," they said. In 1995, he had also conspired to kill the then Kerala Chief Minister EK Nayanar but one of them was arrested later and the plan was foiled. ``He has two wives and 8 children. One of his daughters is married to one Abdul Raheem alias Aftab, who was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir while trying to cross the Line of Control (LoC)," officials said. His links with IM came to the fore after he told the interrogators that he had met Riyaz Bhatkal, the most wanted terrorist for his role in Hyderabad blasts, several times and even provided them shelter in his house. He was also said to be in constant touch with other IM cadres. Sattar, who was wanted by the police of various states including Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Kerala, was produced before the Magistrate tonight. From THE NEW INDIAN EXPRESS, 21, January 2009

Exodus of Kashmiri Pandits

Exodus of Kashmiri Pandits
Aditya Raj Kaul 21 Jan 2009
Kashmiri Hindus were asked to quit home and hearth in their own country। Lakhs were killed, homes looted, girls and women subjected to unspeakable atrocities. The Central Government provided them refuge in camps lacking even basic amenities. Today, even after 28 years, they have not been adequately rehabilitated, nor serious attempts made to help them return home with honour. As the world and much of the nation’s political elite remained mute, Hindus observed 19 January as Kashmiri Hindu Displacement Day – Editor] I wake and feel the fell of dark, not dayWhat hours, O what black hours we have spent… - Gerard Manley Hopkins 19 January 1990. Kashmir was breathing still; Kashmiri Pandits lay hidden like frightened pigeons in their own nest. Today on behalf of my fellow brothers and sisters, I wish to revisit the pain of separation from my own home 19 years ago, when the cruel hands of Allah-wallahs butchered members of my community for being ‘idol worshipers,’ for rejecting the call for unholy jihad and for siding with their own nation, India. The marauders played dire warnings from mosques which pierced each nerve of anybody with a Hindu name. As the sun turned pale, the exhortations became louder, and three taped slogans repeatedly played their terror: 'Kashmir mei agar rehna hai, Allah-O-Akbar kehna hai' (If you want to stay in Kashmir, you have to say Allah is great); 'Yahan kya chalega, Nizam-e-Mustafa' (What do we want here? Rule of Shariah); 'Asi gachchi Pakistan, Batao roas te Batanev san' (We want Pakistan along with Hindu women, but without their men). The roots of this unparalleled tragedy lie in 1986 with a well-planned strategy to expel Hindus from the valley. By 1990, the populace saw its age-old temples turned to ruins and their own lives at risk. As Pakistan stepped up its campaign against India, new Islamic terror outfits suddenly mushroomed in the state. As Jamait-e-Islami financed all madarsas to poison them against the minority Hindus and India, Pakistan instigated youth to launch Jihad against India. A terror strike so meticulously planned was terrifying. Camps in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) began training innumerable Muslim men, and India witnessed the emergence of the bloodiest Kalashnikov culture in the valley. The victims were innocent and non-violent Kashmiri Pandits. Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah abandoned his responsibilities. Today, 22 years later, his son Omar Abdullah has assumed the same majestic throne, but one wonders if like his father he will leave the minority Hindus helpless as always, or rise above politics and religion to create space for Pandits in their valley? When Farooq Abdullah escaped underground, Jagmohan took the reigns as Governor of the state. Despite the difficult socio-political situation, he displayed remarkable leadership in helping Kashmiri Pandits receive safe shelter. He charted out an exceptional strategy to counter Islamic fanatics and opened his Durbar (Office) to the public irrespective of the time. He visited the families of martyred Hindus. Regarding one such meeting with the family of Satish Tickoo, murdered by JKLF goon Bitta Karate, he wrote in ‘My Frozen Turbulence in Kashmir’- “In Habba-Kadal, except for the long row of our vehicles, nothing was seen on the streets. The afternoon rain appeared to have soaked the houses with depression. The few windows that were open were without even the usual dim light. The dark clouds overhead completed the picture of gloom… The house of Tickoo was like a shattered nest. Everything lay scattered. The grim atmosphere around told the tale more vividly...” He further wrote, “As I was about to leave, Satish’s uncle who was a bit vociferous and assertive, insisted that I should go upstairs and see the family deity. I agreed. A calm majestic figure was soon visible. It looked so imposing even in the darkness… With tears in their eyes, the family members thanked me and the accompanying officers. We were all moved over the sad plight of the family”. Yet what mirrored my anxiety of 19 years: “Looking at the compact and enmeshed houses, and the by-lanes which acted like fine threads of a well-knit fabric, I wondered how these families, who had all their Gods and Goddesses here, and had deep roots in the soil, could leave and settle in distant and unfamiliar lands. Sometimes life is unaccountably cruel. And we human beings have, perhaps, no option but to suffer – suffer in silence, or wail”. Satish Tickoo was not the lone martyr who fell to the bullets of so-called revolutionaries. Tika lal Taploo, Nilkanth Ganjoo, Sarla Bhat, and countless others followed the target list of JKLF and other terror outfits backed by Pakistan financially, psychologically and politically. An absentee government, collapsed administration, and a petrified community saw despondency set in. As the moonlight of 19 January 1990 wore itself out, despondency gave way to desperation. Tens of thousands of Kashmiri Pandits across the valley took an agonizing decision to flee their homeland and save their lives and religion from rabid Jihadis… Thus did a twentieth century Exodus take place. Pandits left the valley, approximately 3.5 lakhs. Nearly one thousand Pandit men, women and children were slaughtered in 1990 alone by the soldiers of Islam, though official figures logged only 209! Alas! Soon the J&K government may disown the entire Pandit community as aborigines of Kashmir. Nineteen years later, a few hundred frightened Pandits still live scattered across the valley in far-flung areas, hoping against hope for peace and for their brethren to step on the snow once again. This 19th year embarks upon a history of bullets to makeshift camps in Jammu in tortuous summer heat, to snake and scorpion bites, and dreadful diseases. Seven camps in Jammu are an uninhabitable asylum for around 50,000 Pandits. The only perceptible change is an upgradation of some to permanent structures. My heart bleeds when I watch communal-turned-pseudo-secular Kashmiri separatists grab the headlines, while the plight of Pandits is dismissed as a non-issue. It isn’t the so-called Azaadi that the people of Kashmir desire. They long for an immediate crackdown on terrorists, an end to the separatist elements and those unbearable puppets in the Valley – so normalcy can return. Though sidelined for now, the political patronage they enjoy could soon see Hurriyat and JKLF once again spreading terror and hatred. An entire community uprooted from its ancestral land is today struggling for its identity. The weak-kneed Indian state shamelessly panders to Islamic terrorists and separatists who claim they are the final arbiters of Jammu & Kashmir's destiny. A part of India's cultural heritage is destroyed; a chapter of India's civilization has been erased. But our jholawallah brigade unabashedly turns its back to the plight of Kashmiri Pandits. For them ‘Hindu sorrow inflicted by Islamic terror’ is a truth too harsh to accept. Thereby hangs a tragic tale completely wiped out from public memory. I am as old as the terrorism in the Valley. In these 19 years, the only time I felt the breeze of my land was through the closed windows of my airplane. She beckons me and I too am desperate to grab her serene quilt. My mother summons me, I shall answer her call soon, very soon… The author is a founder member of Roots in Kashmir and United Students; he can be reached at

We must dump Lahore Club

The PioneerEDITS Tuesday, January 13, 2009We must dump Lahore ClubA Surya Prakash Though their numbers are dwindling, members of the ‘Lahore Club’ (a bunch of pro-Pakistan do-gooders who always advise India to exercise ‘restraint’ after every Pakistan-sponsored terrorist attack) and some of its offshoots are still around. After lying low for some time when public anger against Pakistan was at its peak in the immediate aftermath of 26/11, these self-styled peaceniks are now crawling out of the wood work and once again thrusting their unsolicited advice on Indians, the Government of India and the political elite in our country, and urging all and sundry to avoid utterances or actions that would hinder the ‘peace process’! Since Indians are democrats and have high levels of tolerance, some fellow citizens and their non-Indian friends have made it a habit to lecture us on the virtues of peaceful co-existence after every terrorist strike. Among the arguments often advanced in support of their pro-Pakistan stance are: India must yield and thus ‘strengthen’ democratic forces; if India takes a hawkish stance, the Pakistani Army will gain the upper hand; war will wreck economic progress and leave the population even more impoverished than it is today; and, there is no such thing as a winnable war against Pakistan because it is a nuclear weapon state. Those who push the ‘peace with Pakistan at any cost’ line have such a stranglehold on the Indian establishment that they have successfully prevented us from retaining the gains of the wars in 1965 and 1971 and taking effective measures to secure our borders. Their latest argument is that people-to-people relations and the bonds that have developed between the civil societies of the two countries should not be weakened. Needless to say, according to them, war is no option. We are all by now familiar with this gibberish because we have heard it from the days of partition. After Pakistan’s aggression in Jammu & Kashmir in October 1947, the Prime Ministers of the two countries met at Lahore in December that year. Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru ‘urged’ his counterpart Liaquat Ali Khan to “appeal” to the intruders to withdraw. Khan pleaded his inability to do so. He told the Indians that he ran a Government of “moderates” and that if he issued such an appeal, there was every danger of his Government being replaced by extremists! The Indian leadership, prompted by the then members of the ‘Lahore Club’, fell for this ploy and agreed that it would be inappropriate for Khan (the man who sponsored this infiltration in the first place) to “appeal” to the infiltrators to backtrack. Thereafter, we have seen many repeats of this story leading to dozens of such examples of Pakistan’s aggression and India’s pusillanimity. Every time we got ready for the kill, rationalists came out of the woodwork and urged us to give in so that there is ‘lasting peace’ and the ‘danger of extremists gaining control in Pakistan’ is averted. We should not fall for this gambit any more. We must end this habit of pathetic submission to Pakistan’s criminality and warmongering, but we cannot do that until we deal with these pseudo-patriots and expose their hypocrisy. If we fail to do so even after 26/11, we will forever lose the capacity to protect our borders, our democracy and our way of life, and renege on our responsibility to hand over a secure India to future generations. Therefore, the first task should be to confront members of the ‘Lahore Club’ and its many mutations and ask them to find a more appropriate location to peddle their wares. For example, they could open shop in Islamabad and direct their unsolicited advice towards citizens of a country who are in dire need of basic political education. If these professional advisers are truly committed to peace and modern constitutional ideas as they pretend to be, they ought to read the Constitution of Pakistan or what passes for it and urge the citizenry across the border to drop the term ‘Islamic Republic’ from this basic document. Side by side, they could suggest that provisions which require the President, the Prime Minister, Ministers and other constitutional functionaries to solemnly swear their allegiance to the Quran and to commit themselves to the preservation of what is described as ‘Islamic ideology’ should go. When the peaceniks achieve this goal, they will acquire the right to advice secular India and promote peace. Also, once Pakistan is re-built on a secular foundation, our so-called ‘friends’ across the border will have taken the first step towards removing the dehumanising logic on which their nation rests since its inception in 1947. Since many members of the ‘Lahore Club’ are closet Communists who have hailed the dismantling of the Hindu Rashtra in Nepal and the advent of democracy in that country, we must presume that they have similar commitment to the dismantling of the Islamic Rashtra in Pakistan! After this task is achieved, there are many more chores for these so-called ‘friends’ of India. The ‘Lahore Club’ can take up a task in which its members claim to have expertise — detoxification of school curriculum. Pakistani textbooks contain vulgar abuse of Hindus and Hinduism. Surely, the detoxification of Pakistani textbooks ought to be a noble undertaking for secular beings? Further, many of these worthies are aware that the Pakistani state ensures that the seeds of jihadi violence germinate in young minds. Since 2007, a new Islamiat curriculum has been introduced in Pakistan and the teachings begin from Grade III and go on till Grade XII. Students are taught the full concept of jihad as also the virtues of monotheism. This is where hatred for Hindus, Hinduism and India is injected. When textbooks contain such rubbish about 800 million Hindus, how can there be harmonious people-to-people contact between these nations? Any way, who are these ‘people’ in India who are shamelessly maintaining contact with such uncivil people across the border? We often respond in anger when the Americans or the British talk of India and Pakistan — two countries which are from a constitutional, moral and humanitarian sense, poles apart — in the same breath. Then, why do we put up with this twaddle from these so-called Indians who are hell bent on perpetuating the hyphenated approach between a modern, secular, liberal, democratic India and a medieval, Islamic, theocratic Pakistan? Those of us who value our freedom, our safety and the well-being of our children, must expose their humbug and impose sanctions on these hypocrites. What we need today is zero tolerance towards those who are weakening our resolve and rendering us vulnerable to state-sponsored terrorism from across the border. We can deal with Pakistan later.

Biggest terror threat is from Maoists
Express News Service First Published : 20 Jan 2009 08:23:22 AM ISTLast Updated : 20 Jan 2009 03:24:01 PM ISTHYDERABAD: Why has terrorism become such an overarching concern in recent times when the probability of being hit by lightning is greater than dying in a terror attack? The remark was made by director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Santosh Mehra in his keynote address at the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (FAPCCI) panel discussion on `Current Economic and Security Scenario and Investor Confidence'.Presenting more statistics, he said the number of people dying in road accidents in India in one year was higher than the 70,000 people killed in terrorist violence in the last 30 years. "The issue of Islamic fundamentalism is very small compared to internal terror threats. In fact, the biggest terrorist threat to India is from the Maoist Communist Centre,'' said the ACB director. Mincing no words, he said tackling terror required strong anti-terror laws. "Since police confessions are not admissible in Indian courts, how can we ask Pakistan to accept Ajmal Qasab's statements as proof,'' queried Santosh Mehra. However, he did concede that certain police confessions were extracted in a questionable manner. Going further, he said what India lacked was the will to take action. He said Israel's actions in Gaza were possible only because a majority of the Israelis approved of them, unlike in India where "there was no consensus on strikes against Pakistan''.Illustrating the impact of terrorist attacks on economic activity, Santosh Mehra said the 9/11 attacks had cost America a trillion dollars. Terror attacks, like those in Mumbai, make international investors wary of parking their investments there. The police is poorly equipped to deal with such attacks. Other speakers agreed with the sentiment that India had to show a strong political will and project economic and military power. Ajay Gandhi, a Chartered Accountant, said the Mumbai terror attacks and the Satyam scam pointed to a systematic weakness. "There will be more Mumbais and more Satyams unless we mend the system,'' said Gandhi. Citizens could take a strong stand to push the political class into taking action, he opined. However, other speakers expressed confidence in India's business climate despite the recent setbacks. Meera Lal, who teaches at Osmania University's Institute of Public Enterprise, said India's fundamentals were strong and added that "one Satyam wouldn't deter investors''. Former FAPCCI president B G Shastry said only strong political leadership could set the course for a strong country. From THE NEW INDIAN EXPRESS, 20, January 2009

Give national animal status to cow, Seer tells Centre

Give national animal status to cow, Seer tells Centre
By Golakha Chandra Das

BHUBANESWAR,(Visakeo) Jan 6: Shankaracharya of Gokarna Pitha, Karanataka Jagadaguru Swami Raghaveshwar Bharati on Tuesday demanded national animal status for cows. The Hindu Seer asked the Centre as well as respective States Government to impose a complete ban on cow slaughtering.

Addressing a Press Conference here, the Seer said that they would conduct a 108 days Rath Yatra to high light the issue under the banner of Biswa Mangal Go Gram Samiti. The Rath Yatra, which will spread the message of 'save cow and save village' will be flagged off on September 28, 2009, on Vijaya Dashami Day at Kurukhetra in Hariyana and calumniated at Nagpur in 2010 on Makar Sankranti Day," the Shankaracharya said. The Yatra would traverse some 20,000 kilometers, he added.

Apart, from the main Rath, 15,000 smaller Rath to traverse some 10 lakh kilometers during in 108 days, he added. The Seer further said that meetings will be held at 400 places across the country and signature of 50 crore people will be collected and submitted to the President of India seeking complete ban on cow slaughter, he added.

The Seer said that main Rath would stay in Orissa for three days. Coming down heavily on Church and Islamic terrorists, the Seer claimed that Hindus are in danger due to faulty policies of the political class.

The urgent call for the protection and preservation of Indian Cow Breed has been Seer's primary activity in the very recent years. Of total 70 breeds recognised in India, only around 35 breeds exist now and all of them can be found in Seer's Matt in Karnataka. He started the Kamaduga yogana, to concentrate on the work. Projects are on to start 108 goshalas, of which few are already started in Karnataka, Maharastra, Kerala, Tamilnadu.

The Seer, who came into prominence after organising the "Go Yatre" in 2004 and the "Go Sansat" in 2006 has said that this move to focus attention on the need to protect and promote Indian cow breeds many of which are believed to be on the verge of extinction. Swamiji who had taken up protection of the pure Indian cow breeds as his mission through a programme "Kamadugha" will lead the 108 days Yatra, sources added. Shankar Lal ji, Joint-Coordinator Biswa Mangal Go Gram Yatra Samiti and AS Panigrahi of the State unit were among those present at the Press meet.

The Truth about "World Vision

The Truth about "World Vision"28/12/2008 13:50:26 By by V। K। Sashikumar The author is a noted investigative journalist for Tehelka. This article was prepared by him for IBNLive.com (the online arm of CNN-IBN, owned and funded by the Southern Baptist Church in the US) under the title “Preparing for the Harvest”, which IBNLive so far has not published it as it exposes World Vision’s Christian missionary activities in India. Donars to World Vision India - Rs 256 crores collected in 2008 - believe it to be the premier NGO working in India for the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden. In fact it is the premier Christian missionary organisation working in India for the harvesting souls for Jesus. Since the killing of Swami Lakshmanananda and the resultant communal violence in Orissa in August 2008, World Vision’s funding and missionary activities have come under the scanner of the Home Ministry in New Delhi. World Vision, the world’s largest Christian church mission agency, has traditionally been closely linked with successive American governments. The former US Ambassador for International Religious Freedoms, Dr Robert Seiple, was World Vision chief for 11 years till 1998 when he was picked by former president, Bill Clinton, to head the office of International Religious Freedoms. Around the period when Seiple was the president of World Vision, its vice-president from 1993 to 1998 was Andrew S. Natsios. He is now the administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USAID). For more than 40 years, USAID has been the leading government agency providing economic and humanitarian assistance to developing countries. World Vision’s focus is children and community development. It is involved in more than 162 projects in 25 states. It projects its community development programmes as “holistic development”. This is implemented through Area Development Programmes (ADP). Each ADP works in an area that is contiguous geographically, economically or ethnically. These programmes provide access to clean drinking water, healthcare, education and setting up of income generating projects. But infused with such development works is the spiritual component - Bible classes. In India, World Vision projects itself as a “Christian relief and development agency with more than 40 years experience in working with the poorest of the poor in India without respect to race, region, religion, gender or caste.” However, Tehelka has in its possession US-based World Vision Inc.’s financial statement filed before the Internal Revenue Service, wherein, it is classified as a Christian church ministry. In any case, its mission statement is self-explanatory: “World Vision is an international partnership of Christians whose mission is to follow our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, in working with the poor and oppressed, to promote human transformation, seek justice and bear witness to the Good News of the Kingdom of God.” Though World Vision has consultative status with UNESCO and partnerships with UN agencies like UNICEF, WHO, UNHCR and ILO, the fact is that its financial records reveal that it has funded evangelical activities all over the world including India. World Vision uses its international clout and its close links with the US government through USAID to network with governments and corporate entities in the developing world. World Vision has an ongoing channel of interaction with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII); in its 2003 financial report it states that “the Rural Development Department of the Government of Assam recognized World Vision India as a leading development agency in the state and has recommended that World Vision be the choice for receiving bilateral funds. The government has also sought World Vision’s assistance in creating a proposal for US$ 80 million for development work in the state.” The income and expenditure account for the year ended September 30, 2002 shows that its total income was Rs 95.5 crores, which included foreign contribution of Rs 87.8 crores. For an organisation that claims to be only involved in development and relief work, it is quite secretive about its positioning and exact nature of activities. When approached by Tehelka as part of its undercover operation for an interview, World Vision India’s national director, Dr Jayakumar Christian, after having agreed to the interview backed out because he wanted copies of the fictitious Christian magazine that Tehelka claimed to be representing. However, what goes unnoticed by the governments and the corporate world is World Vision India’s evangelical missions as part of its development agenda. Proselytisation (conversion of faith) is an integral part of its provision of development services under its much-touted ADP programmes. Though none of the literature published by World Vision India even mentions its evangelisation missions, foreign publications of World Vision India proudly proclaim its “spiritual” component. Take, for instance, World Vision New Zealand’s report (4 September 2002) on the funding of ADP in Dahod, Gujarat. Under the head, “spiritual development” the report states: “Held a vacation Bible school for 150 children from different villages. The children participated in games, Bible quizzes, drama and other activities. Organised a one-day spiritual retreat for 40 young people and a children’s Christmas party. Each of Dahod’s 45 villages chose five needy children to attend the party.” In Dumaria, Banka district, eastern Bihar, “the ADP supports local churches by running leadership-training courses for pastors and church leaders.” What has an Area Development Programme (ADP) got to do with running leadership training courses for pastors and church leaders? Incidentally, World Vision New Zealand funds ADP programmes in the tribal pockets of India. The New Zealand Government’s Voluntary Agencies Support Scheme (VASS) jointly fund the two-year project, the NZ government matching World Vision contributions on a 2:1 basis. There are many other instances of evangelical programmes run by World Vision India. In the Gajapati ADP, situated in Gumma Block of Orissa’s Gajapati district, a World Vision report admits that “Canadian missionaries have worked in the area for just over 50 years and today 85-90 percent of the community is Christian. However, local church leaders had little understanding of the importance of their role in community development. ADP staff build relationships with these leaders to improve church co-operation and participation in development initiatives.” Here World Vision organised two training camps for local church leaders in holistic development. In Mayurbhanj, again in Orissa, World Vision regularly organises spiritual development programmes as part of its ADP package. The World Vision report says: “Opposition to Christian workers and organisations flares up occasionally in this area, generally from those with vested interests in tribal people remaining illiterate and powerless. World Vision supports local churches by organising leadership courses for pastors and church leaders.” World Vision India is active in Bhil tribal areas and openly admits its evangelical intentions: “The Bhil people worship ancestral spirits but also celebrate all the Hindu festivals. Their superstitions about evil spirits make them suspicious of change, which hinders community development. ADP staff live among the Bhil people they work with, gaining the villagers’ trust and showing their Christian love for the people by their actions and commitment.” This being the case it is not surprising that World Vision India was honoured with the 2003 Mahatma Gandhi Award for Social Justice. This award is hosted by the All India Christian Council. Incidentally, Joseph D’Souza who was AICC’s President during that year also heads an evangelical network, Operation Mobilisation, in India. Operation Mobilisation, again, is an American missionary organisation. It was founded by Georg Verwer and today is a global ministry “committed to working in partnership with churches and other Christian organisations for the purpose of World mission.” COURTESY-

PIS: Pakistani Immunity Syndrome

PIS: Pakistani Immunity Syndrome Himanshu Jain 02 Jan 2009

Since 1947 we have fought three bloody wars with Pakistan, besides rebuffing the invasion of Kargil. Pakistan has post-1974 engaged in a cross-border proxy war, which has steadily escalated from a low-intensity war of attrition to a deadlier and more lethal denouement, the latest example of which was Mumbai 2008.

There have been regular attacks in several Indian States, from Jammu & Kashmir to Kerala. Pakistan began by openly promoting the Sikh separatists. But after the failure of that experiment – the Hindu-Sikh civilisational ties proved ultimately more enduring and the Indian nation no walkover – it turned to its co-religionists in India and within Pakistan to assault this country with unnerving frequency.

Over 71,000 Indians, including 9000 security personnel, have lost their lives to jihad since the 1980s. India has spent over Rs. 45000/- crores to fight terror.

As Pakistan was consistent in waging jihad against India, so India has been consistent in protesting against these attacks. New Delhi goes to the UN, USA and other countries, threatens war against Pakistan and/or strict action, cancels cricket tours… India’s stand remains unchanged over the decades!

Because of the regular attacks by Pakistan and routine countermeasures by India much of the present Indian generation has over the last quarter century developed a Pakistani Immunity Syndrome (PIS). A simple test will reveal the symptoms of PIS:

1] Six-seven security personnel die occasionally and 2-3 die daily in Kashmir fighting the proxy war with the western neighbour. This is so routine that it finds mention only on the 14th or 15th page of leading national dailies. Only the Kargil invasion wiped up nationalist feelings for a few months.

2] Repeated bomb blasts, including serial bombs, in various Indian cities, accompanied by the loss of hundreds of innocent lives has still not made fighting terror [or Pakistan] the top priority of the Indian voter. Thus, the ruling UPA is allowed to get away with repealing a law like POTA [because there is an unavoidable anti-Muslim tinge in the war on terror).

3] The Average Indian Citizen can remember a terrorist strike for two weeks at most. For big strikes like Mumbai 26 November or the Parliament attack of 13 December 2001, most Indians will remember it for two-three months. It will figure in parties, offices, and living rooms. Now it has become fashionable to go out and light candles, sign petition on the Internet, or send a Rs. 6/- SMS to a popular news channel demanding a strong response to terror. But the buck stops there – and PIS sets in...

4] PIS has made it impossible for Indians to make the fight against jihadi terror a top political priority; they have also failed to pressurize the judiciary and human rights activists to be more sympathetic to the Indian nation rather than to rights of terrorists. A national daily recently reported that 60 Pakistani terrorists have been let off by the judiciary since 2004, on grounds of lack of evidence or bad police work! [Remember our innocent Sarvjit Singh on death row in a Pakistani jail?]

These shady human rights activists have a high social profile in India. Some have gone on to the extent of fabricating cases to fight Indian security agencies and put our best officers behind bars. Yet there has been no investigation into the puppet-masters behind these human rights activists, their finances, their motives.

Pakistan decided to go nuclear after defeat in the Bangladesh war. India never had the vision to foresee the danger posed by a nuclear Islamic Pakistan; it allowed Pakistan to make the nuclear bomb.

India should have recognized Pakistan’s Islamic goals and taken special measures to contain them. Pakistan should never have been allowed to go nuclear. From 1975 to 1986, when Pakistan was building nuclear weapons, India should have made surgical strikes of the sort we are talking about now. Today, such a military operation will be disastrous – we have more to lose than Pakistan.

New Delhi also allowed America and the Soviet Union to get involved in Pakistan and Afghanistan. It should have used that period to build strong influence in Afghanistan to counter Pakistan, or keep superpowers out of the region. But our shortsighted leaders allowed these areas to be raped by superpowers, and as a result, Pakistan and Afghanistan became hell in the name of Islam.

We grew up studying Panchsheel and non-alignment. We were taught awe of Nehru and his foreign policy. In reality, India failed to evolve a leadership role in South Asia, and thus we find ourselves surrounded by Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan with Islamic ideology and expansionist designs. We failed to discipline them and keep the area peaceful. Even today children are taught Panchsheel and NAM, and India is bled by small neighbours.

India recognised only China as enemy No. 1. New Delhi’s long-term planning of its missile and nuclear weapons programme was only vis-à-vis China. She never took Pakistan as a serious threat, and till today has not recognized the Islamic problem surrounding it and imploding within.

Over the years, the political class toned down its anti-Pakistan policy as it was perceived as hurting the sentiments of Indian Muslims. I have never understood why Indian Muslims are so sensitive to Pakistan- bashing by India? Many may disagree with my views, but as a child growing up in Ahmedabad, I often heard fire crackers go up in my Muslim neighborhood whenever Pakistan won a cricket match. There were instances of riots where people died when Pakistan and India played a cricket match.

After the nuclear tests, the hawkish-looking Vajpayee went out of the way to open Indian borders to people-to-people contact with Pakistan, to encourage Muslim voters to come to BJP-NDA. The Muslim vote somehow remains the most coveted vote for any political party!

Indian Muslims never liked India’s nuclear tests and openly criticized them, though the majority of Indians were happy about them. As soon as borders with Pakistan were opened, Indian Muslims rushed to meet their long-lost relatives separated by the Partition. It is my understanding that they came back with more marriages across the border! Pakistan pushing terrorists into India, killing Indians, yet Indian Muslims consider it safe to marry their daughters and sons across the border and also do business with them.

Every section of the Indian Penal Code has been misused by the police and security personnel - for corruption or political reasons. Laws like attempt to murder, rape, Section 420, dowry, are misused daily in hundreds of police stations across the country, and many Indian have suffered because of such misuse.

Yet it is ONLY Acts like TADA and POTA that have been singled out for notice of possible misuse – because they might hurt Muslim sentiment! It is possible that like any other Indian law, these may have been misused in a few cases, but these laws have been DROPPED to get Muslim votes. Laws like these are required to book the new breed of terrorists, but the interest of Muslims supersedes national interest.

Indian Muslim youth are easily brainwashed by trigger-happy jihadi mullahs across the border. The post-Godhra flare-up in Gujarat is used to convert the youths into killing machines. Posters of Osama adorn the streets of Muslim neighbourhoods.

Jihadis are respected - Muslims come out openly in support of Sorabuddin and Ishrat Jehan Shaikh. Now Jamia University is going to defend students who clashed with late Inspector M.C. Sharma. Politicians sense the way the wind blows and lend their support… Yet, even today, Hindus go out of the way to accommodate Muslims. That is why many Hindu activists are viewed with suspicion.

Pakistan has been consistent in its actions and intentions. India has been equally consistent in pushing issues under the carpet or looking the other way. India has no understanding or strategy to cope with Islamic expansionist designs. Successive Indian governments have failed to delink Indian Muslims with Pakistan and International Muslims, hence the current mess.

For a solution to emerge, India needs to get out of the Pakistan Immunity Syndrome. Human rights activists, judges, police, secularists, Indian Muslims, and self-conscious Hindus, all need to sit together for a brain-storming session, rather than score cheap points against each other in sterile debates, or for winning local elections. We need to look terror in the face and fashion an appropriate weapon.
