Press briefing by RSS General secretary Bhaiyyaji Joshi

Ujjain August 20-2011: Sri Suresh Bhaiyyaji Joshi, Genereral Secretary of RSS has conducted a press meet during the on going SAMANWAYA BAITAK.

Inspired by a single motto, the chief personnel of various Sangh Parivar organizations that are active in social and national spheres assemble together every 3-4 years with the intention of contemplation and planning. During the meeting, there is a mutual exchange of various experiences too.

In the chain of these meetings, the interactive gathering at Ujjain has just concluded, where discussions have been held on various aspects. Along with this, there has also been a deep pondering over the current social scenario as well.

Retrieval of black-money and prevalence of corruption has become a matter of serious deliberation all over the nation. Against this glaring issue that has been causing deep distress to the general public, the citizens’ voice is now being articulated as a sharp agitation. Be it the “Youth Against Corruption” campaign launched by ABVP or the protest for implementation of ideals under the initiative of Swami Ramdevji’s “Bharat Swabhiman Trust” or the uprising under the leadership of Anna Hazareji for the implementation of Janlokpal Bill, the public participation and consent received in favour of these agitations are indicative of intense nationalism and devotion to a cause.

Dr Manmohan Vaidya, Suresh Bhaiyyaji Joshi at Samanvay Baithak- Ujjain

The resolution passed at the “Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha” organized by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which concluded on March 2011, has stated clearly that any form of protest voiced against corruption will be supported by Sangh. Following this, the Swayamsevaks have been active participants in any such demonstration. In a nutshell, this endeavor of ours will continue. Also, we strongly believe that there is the necessity for an integrated and coordinated effort by the different campaigners. It is vital that everyone moves forward as one, in unity.

The decision of the ruling class was to stifle the agitation that has been moving forward peacefully. The issuing and implementation of detention against a non-violent and organized campaign, instead of conducting peaceful negotiations and deriving at amicable solutions is indeed beyond comprehension. In a democracy, the duty and responsibility of the elected representatives is to take decisions and usher in peace, taking into consideration the citizen’s views.

The Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence Bill, 2011, to be passed by the National Advisory Council will prove to be disastrous to the social harmony and national unity. The bill will wound the very roots of our constitution. Not only this, it is also bound to sow and reap the seeds of distrust and dissolution. This has highlighted the communal and divisive mindset of NAC, which has proposed the very Bill.

The proposed bill will disband the federal accord created by the constitution and will destroy the rights bestowed on the nation. Hence, the government is requested to nip the bill off, in the bud itself and ensure the nation’s security. By implementing this kind of bill, the NAC’s commitment to national integrity itself becomes dubious.

The Bill will be opposed tooth and nail by various organizations of the country, at different levels. It is the government’s duty to make serious deliberations before implementing something that poses grave threat to social interactions and national integrity.

West Bengal to be renamed Paschimbanga

A consensus to rename West Bengal as Paschimbanga was on Friday reached at an all-party meeting to change the nomenclature of the state.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee suggested the new name and unanimity was reached on it, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee told reporters after the meeting in the state assembly.

“It has been unanimously decided that state’s new name will be Paschimbanga from now in all languages,” he said.

“We wanted a change in the name of the state to get the administrative advantage,” he said.

The Chief Minister presided over the meeting attended by Trinamool Congress, besides ally Congress and SUCI(C), Left Front constituents CPI(M), CPI, RSP, Forward Bloc as also GJM, among other parties.

Ms. Banerjee had earlier empowered Mr. Chatterjee and Leader of the Opposition Surjyakanta Mishra to study the new name for the state.

Mr. Chatterjee said the letter ‘W’ in West Bengal came low down alphabetically which resulted in disadvantage for the state.

“Paschimbanga as a new name also mirrors history,” he said, adding a resolution would be moved in the Assembly for adoption which would be then referred to the Centre.

Forward Bloc sources said the choice was made from among the suggestions of ‘Paschimbanga’, ‘Bangla’ and ‘Bangabhumi’

CPI(M)’s Mishra, who flanked Mr. Chatterjee at the press meet, said, “Whatever be the opinions in the past, unanimity was reached on the issue at the all-party meeting.”

Once the bill in this regard is passed by two-thirds majority in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and ratified by the President, the state would get the new name.

Mr. Chatterjee said that the meeting also discussed bifurcation of Jalpaiguri, Burdwan, West Midnapore and North 24 Parganas districts.

It was decided that district magistrates would be asked to seek the opinion of the people before proceeding with the move.

In the past also, similar moves were taken to rename West Bengal -- once in 1974 during Congress rule and later in 1999 when Left Front was in power. The moves did not mature due to various reasons

Anna Hazare addresses supporters at Ramlila Ground

NEW DELHI: After three days in jail, anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare reached Ramlila Maidan and addressed thousands of supporters urging them to continue the fight for a strong Lokpal Bill.

Anna was received by cheering crowds, many of who had been waiting for days.

Earlier in the day, just past the Tihar Jail gates he addressed the crowd outside , raising his hand to the air and shouting "Victory to Mother India" and declaring the fight against corruption would continue whether he was "alive or not" before slowly winding his way in a truck decorated with flags through massive crowds.

Looking fit, the 73-year old Gandhian who is on day four of his hunger strike, urged his supporters outside jail to make sure that the torch of the movement against corruption is not extinguished. He said that India gained freedom in 1947, but the freedom movement had actually begun long time back meaning that the march to end corruption will be a long drawn one.

"We got freedom in 1947. Now the second freedom struggle has begun on August 16. A revolution has started. The fight against corruption will continue whether I am alive or not," he said as the hundreds of supporters waiting for him since early morning cheered and clapped.

Anna said, "After 64 years of independence, we still haven't achieved complete freedom."

"The fight is far from over, it has just begun," he added.

Many supporters had been there overnight and some had offered prayers to the god. Others chanted "the whole country is Anna".

Greeted by rains, the procession made slow progress as Anna waved to his supporters on his way towards Rajghat where he paid obeisance to Mahatma Gandhi before proceeding to Amar Jawan Jyoti at the India Gate and from there to the Ramlila ground, the protest venue.

Hazare supporters accompanied the procession waving the tricolour while he accepted greetings from people gathered on either side of the road in West Delhi.

The improvised vehicle had a huge umbrella to protect Hazare and his close aides from the pounding rain. Apart from walking along with Hazare's vehicle, the supporters followed him on bikes, jeeps and cars.

The procession affected vehicular traffic in and around the Tihar Jail premises including in Janakpuri, Mayapuri and Hari Nagar in West Delhi.

The tireless Hazare was greeted by the supporters with garlands and bouquets at various intersections en-route his procession which was marked by chants of 'Anna' and "Vande Mataram".

Children, housewives and others were seen standing on their balconies and rooftops to have a glimpse of Hazare and the procession.

Thousands of people, many of them school children, waited at Ramlila Ground despite rains to support Anna Hazare.

With the many tricolours, patriotic songs playing in the background and loud slogans and the sun playing hide and seek, it was like a carnival at the sprawling ground in central Delhi where Hazare will continue his fast that began Tuesday.

There were hundreds of school children in the crowd, some who had bunked their classes to come out in support of the 74-year-old Hazare.

"I have come here to support Annaji and we will get the civil society version of Lokpal bill passed come what may," said Prateek Babar, a student of Rajkiya Sarvodya Vidhyalaya School in west Delhi.

As it started pouring heavily, some people started dancing.

"When the government could not stop us, this downpour is nothing. I am here to witness history in the making," said Rehan Singh, a Class 9 student who had a tricolour painted on his face.

Authorities looked worried though.

"The marquee put up at the Ramlila ground is not waterproof. The ground is already wet. If it rains more, it will be difficult to handle," said Deputy Mayor Anil Sharma.

Anna's exit from jail today, took place after two days of hard negotiations with the government and the two sides agreeing that Hazare will undertake a fast for 15 days at the Ramlila Ground subject to certain conditions.

Hazare got from Delhi Police the spacious Ramlila Ground for his fast instead of the smaller J P Park.

Significantly, Team Hazare made it clear that his fast would not be a fast-unto-death and he will be on hunger strike only till his health permits.

73-year-old Hazare, in a video shot inside Tihar Jail, said the protests by "all my brothers and sisters, the elderly and the children" is giving him a "new energy" for his fast.

He said people were fed up of corruption and the government should not take long to bring a strong Lokpal Bill.

Hazare, who is on the third day of his fast inside Tihar jail, also said he is not "tired" at all.

Amid crowd cheering and following him, Anna Hazare reached Rajghat on way to Ramlila Maidan from Tihar jail. He addresses his supporters after reaching the venue for protest. Thousands of people, many of them school children, thronged the Ramlila Maidan despite rains to support the social

activist in his fight for a stringent anti-corruption law.
With the many tricolours, patriotic songs playing in the background and loud slogans and the sun playing hide and seek, it was like a carnival at the sprawling ground in central Delhi where Hazare will continue his fast that began on Tuesday.

There were cheers and hail Anna slogans as the announcement was made that Hazare had left Tihar jail after three days and would slowly make his way to the Ramlila Maidan, via Mahatma Gandhi's memorial Rajghat and India Gate.

Kiran Bedi, who was overseeing the arrangements at Ramlila Maidan, made regular requests to people to maintain calm and peace and wait for Hazare, who is expected to reach around 2 pm after paying tributes at Rajghat and India Gate.

Hazare had planned to begin his fast for a stronger lokpal bill at the JP Park in the ITO area here Tuesday.

Delhi Police imposed certain conditions before the protest could be allowed. Hazare refused to agree, after which the police detained him and his associates on Tuesday.

He was sent to Tihar jail and was subsequently released on Tuesday night, but refused to leave the prison until he was allowed to carry on the fast without any conditions.

Hazare started with his fast Aug 16 inside Tihar jail.

Nanaji implemented the Sangh idea of development in villages—Madan Das ji

Newdelhi: “NANAJI Deshmukh was indeed an extraordinary personality. He, thro-ugh practical deeds, taught the people what the RSS is. Through this book he explained the Sangh ideology to the masses,” said RSS Akhil Bharatiya Pracharak Pramukh Shri Madan Das. He was releasing the revised edition of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, a book written by Nanaji Deshmukh in 1979, in New Delhi on August 6 at Deendayal Research Institute.

The Forward of the revised edition has been written by noted journalist Shri Ram Bahadur Rai. Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha Shri Kariya Munda, senior BJP leader Shri Bal Apte and president of Deendayal Research Institute Shri Virendrajit Singh were also present on the occasion. The book is in Hindi and has been published by Prabhat Prakashan. Prior to the function, a documentary, Vilakshan Nanaji, was shown. Former Governor of Goa Shri Kidarnath Sahni and many other distinguished personalities were also present on the occasion.

Shri Madan Das further said the RSS played a key role in generating agitation against the Emergency. Ninety per cent of its swayamsevaks were in jails and the remaining were mobilising people remaining underground. “It was the impact of the RSS activities that the noted communist leader Madhu Limaye then wrote to his wife not to wonder if he came out from the jail wearing RSS nikar,” he said adding that many people were working to weaken the Janata Party but Nanaji was sincerely making efforts to keep it united.

Shri Ram Bahadur Rai said the sequence, facts and reasons for the division of Janata Party cited by Nanaji in the book are fully correct. “Before writing Forward of the book, I have gone through many books on this issue and found what Nanaji wrote is fully correct. Apart from giving correct information about the division of the Janata Party, Nanaji also explained the RSS ideology perfectly,” he said.

Referring to Janata Party, Shri Rai quoted the then Janata Party president the late Chandrasekhar who said the person who cooperated him the most in the functioning of the Janata Party was Nanaji Deshmukh, though he had been cautioned by some of his colleagues about Nanaji. “Chandrasekharji told me in clear words that Nanaji was really a dependable person,” Shri Rai pointed out.

“After Chandrasekharji relinquished the post of Prime Minister I got an opportunity to meet him. I asked him what he learnt after becoming Prime Minister. He said he came to know that Sardar Patel was really a patriot and Pt Nehru was not. Another thing that he learnt while being Prime Minister was that if there is any threat to the security of the nation, the RSS would be the first to come forward to defend the country,” Shri Rai said.

“The qualities that Nanaji possessed are still there and the RSS is following them. But this is also a fact that the mentality that led to the division of Janata Party is still there and no political party of the country is exception to it,” he said.

Shri Kariya Munda said Nanaji left the impression of his work in every sphere he worked. I call upon the youth of the nation to work for the betterment of the deprived people of the country.

Shri Bal Apte said dual membership of RSS was said to be the prime reason behind division of the Janata Party. But it was not the only reason. “The credit to divide the Janata Party truly goes to Ch. Charan Singh. All those who played a role in the division of the Janata Party remained just the followers of some forces and they failed to become a formidable political force in the country. “What Nanaji did in his life, he did keeping his identity of RSS open. He always had an eye on future. That is why the book written by him in 1979 is still relevant,” he said.
