Book Swamiji’s killers as soon as possible, RSS tells Orissa Govt

Bhubaneswar: (Visakeo),22/10The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on Wednesday asked the Orissa Government to nab the killers of Swami Laxmananda Saraswati as soon as possible and stop illegal arrest of Hindu tribals in Kandhamal. RSS national joint general secretary, Madandasji said that the Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal has passed resolution on Kandhamal crisis at the recently concluded meeting in Visakhapatnam.

“Steps should be taken to book the culprits and conspirators, repressive measures employed by the police should be stopped and those arrested on flimsy and false charges must be released,” the RSS leader said quoting the resolution while speaking at a Press Conference here. He further said that the right to land ownership of the kandha tribe must be protected by appropriate laws. The amendment of 2002 to the Presidential Order on ST, which included Kui as tribe wrongly, be withdrawn since Kui is only a language spoken by the people of Kandhamal, he said adding a Central Legislation to ban religious conversion. Asked about the nun rape issue, Madandasji ridiculed the claim of the Christians and termed it as a conspiracy to divert attention from the main issue. “You could imagine from the reports of the State Forensic Science Laboratory,” the Sangh leader said. Apart from Kandhamal issue, the ABKM passed three other resolutions – on Islamic terrorism, on Bangladeshi infiltration in Assam and on the Amarnath Yatra Sangharsha Samiti. The RSS leader came down on those who questioned the September 19 police encounter in Delhi’s Batla House, calling the doubts raised “an act of treason.” The resolution on Bangladeshi infiltration in Assam condemned the recent violence and burning of villages of people of Assamese origin by “the organised gang of Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators.” Another resolution complimented the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti on the success of its agitation to restore to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board land allotment and management rights. He also rejected the allegation made by Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over the Kandhamal violence.
“We have rejected the statements of Chief Minister, which saying VHP and Bajarang activists are creating communal tension in Kandhamal and these two outfit as fundamentalists he said while responding to reporters. The RSS functionary denied that the Bajrang Dal had spearheaded the violence in Orissa and Karnataka, and described the demand for a ban on the organization as political vendetta. “No Hindu group can sponsor or participate in terror,” he said. The Chief Minister had said that the Government arrested few leaders of Saffron outfits in connection with the communal clash. He later told to a private TV channel that both VHP and Bajarang Dal as fundamentalists outfits. Madandasji along with Sarasanghachalak KS Sudarshan earlier met Swami Jeevan Chaitanya here at PMG Square, where the seer is had sat on hunger strike demanding arrest of killers. “The Government is under pressure from Centre as it has already warned to impose article 356, so it is taking escape route and blaming others,” he pointed out. “We have condemned the failure of the State Government,” he said. The Pranta Karyabaha Gopal Prasad Mohapatra and Akhila Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Manmohan Baidya were present at the press conference here with Sri Madan Das Devi.

Congress plotted the communal violence in the name of secularism: RSS

Bhubaneswar, 21/10/08 (VISAKEO): Under the secular image, the Congress party is playing the game and pushing the countrymen into darkness and it is the hobby of the Congress to create communal violence in the name of secularism, said the RSS Pranta Prachar Pramukh Simanchal Khatua in a press meet. Opposing to the statement by the Union Minister Ajay Makhan, Sri Khatua said, the accusation drawn by the honorable Minister on Sangh Parivar is completely baseless as it works under the patriotic guidelines and what is Sangh Parivar, everybody knows it. It is the Congress that provides all its political and financial assistance to the Christians and creating communal violence in India. What happened in Kandhamal and most part of the country like Karnataka and Kerala that the UPA government declared the communal violence and flattering and showing its concerns to the Christian people and their loses, the Congress is politicizing and playing the game in the name of secularism, he said.

After the assassination of Swamiji, the state was burst into communal violence, but nobody reports the exact fact rather highlighting the condition of Christianity. Reacting to the violence the Union Minister had stated that RSS and Hindu Organizations are creating such differences so that the communal violence is taking place. But Sri Khatua has made the Congress responsible for the communal riot. The chief conspirator behind the slain of Swamiji, Ex Rajya Sabha MP Radhakanta Nayak is out of police’s reach. He belongs to the Congress Party. Plotting a murder of Swamiji, he is condemning the Hindu Organisation at New Delhi and along with another aid Dr. John Dayal he is designing his plan to be executed swiftly so that the whole Hindu community to be blamed and lowered down. The Uninion Ministers are visiting the Christian people coming to the riot hit district Kandhamal where the Hindu families are worst affected than the Christian converts, that clearly shows their partial motive and expedite the violence more. On the other hand under the central government pressure, the State government is arresting the innocent Hindu people in the name of law and order. Condemning the congress he has suggested stopping doing such kind of politics like communal violence and never playing with the sensitive issue like conversion and re-conversion rather to probe the truth that the chronic conflict between Hindu Scheduled tribes and Christian converts Scheduled castes that was named as communal violence after Swamiji’s slain.

End harassment of Kandhas: Ashram

BHUBANESWAR: (Visakeo)Alleging that security forces have unleashed a reign of terror in Kandhamal district, Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, a Sangh Parivar outfit working for the welfare of the tribals, today urged the State Government to stop mid-night arrest of innocent people.

While male members of many ‘Kandha’ households in the district have fled to forests fearing arrests, security personnel are conducting midnight raids without the presence of lady police and misbehaving with women members, general secretary of Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram (VKA) Laxmikanta Dash told mediapersons here.

A mother of two children, Pulima Mallick of Pajaimaha village under Raikia police station, said her husband is living in jungles for over a month fearing arrest, though not a single house of ‘Pana’ Christians in her village was damaged.

With tears, Pramila Pradhan, widow of a policeman, narrated how her mentally retarded son was brutally assaulted by the security forces although he is totally innocent.

Pramila belongs to Sisapanga village under Raikia police limits.

‘‘We are living in constant fear and unable to sleep at night fearing police raid,’’ they said. Sound of a vehicle scared the villagers and people started running to jungles apprehending arrest.

Citing several instances, Dash alleged that tribal women were molested by CRPF personnel.

While police refused to register complaints of tribal women, the complainants were threatened with arrest if they pursue to lodge FIRs. Police are arresting ‘Kandhas’ on the basis of information provided by ‘Pana’ Christians. Most of the time, Christians are accompanying them in police uniform and voters’ list has formed the basis of arrest, Dash alleged.

On October 3, police raided several houses in Beheragoan and tortured women. Two minor girls of Gaonala village of Gagaguda gram panchayat under Udaygiri police limits were picked up after their mother was mercilessly beaten up. Father of the two girls has fled the village, Dash said.

The two girls were kept in the CRPF custody that night and forwarded to court the next day.

The villagers’ demand for medical examination of the two girls were ignored.

Although several women in various parts of the district were treated very shabbily by the security forces, they are not coming out with details out of shame and fear, he added.

Dash today submitted a memorandum to the State Human Rights Commission alleging violation of human rights of innocent tribals in Kandhamal district.

Hindu seers demand security for Orissa temples

JAGATSINPUR(visakeo)A group of Hindu seers has demanded increased security at temples and for priests in Orissa as they fear more attacks against the community, especially after the killing of a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader that led to widespread communal violence in the state. A Christian group, meanwhile, pointed out that the communal violence had been aimed against Christians and not against Hindus.

"Swami Laxamananda Saraswati (of the VHP) and four of his aides were killed by unidentified gunmen on Aug 23. All the people involved in the murder have not yet been arrested. They may carry out attacks on other Hindu religious places and priests," Swami Arupananda, president of the Nikhil Utkal Math-Mandiradhish Sevasangha, said here, around 120 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.

"But no one has yet shown sympathy to Hindus especially tribal, their temples and their places of worships. No security is provided to the over 40,000 temples across the state and its priests and saints. The state government should take steps to protect them," he said Sunday, adding that Hindu seers felt threatened after the killing of Saraswati.

Kandhamal district, some 200 km from here, has been witnessing communal violence after the killing of Saraswati and four others by unidentified gunmen at his Jalespata Ashram.

Maoist rebels have claimed responsibility for the murder, but some Hindu groups held Christians responsible for it, despite repeated denials by Christian organisations. At least 36 people have been killed in the violence and thousands of Christians have been rendered homeless.

More than 20,000 people, most of them Christians, have taken shelter in private and government relief camps after their houses were torched by rampaging Hindu mobs. Thousands of Hindu tribals have, meanwhile, taken shelter in forests fearing arrest.

There has been no report of any Hindu place of worship or any priest being attacked during the violence.

Sajan K George, president of the Global council of Indian Christians (GCIC), pointed out that most of the victims in Kandhamal are Christians. “There seems to be a larger conspiracy behind the attack on Christians and that needs to be investigated,” he said.

“All Christian organisations have condemned the killing of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati but we are totally dismayed at the ongoing attacks on Christians, their houses and institutions that continue unabated in Orissa and other parts of the country,” George told IANS.

The police in Kandhamal said that on Saturday night, a Hindu man was critically injured after some miscreants fired at him in a remote village under Katingia police station. The houses of a Hindu and a Christian were torched in G. Udayagiri area the same night, police said.

Officials said curfew has been lifted since Friday night in many part of the district as normalcy is gradually returning to the region.

The Hindu Jagaran Samukhya concerns for the Hindu tribal victim

Bhubaneswar, 18/10/08 (VISAKEO): Over the torture and crisis life led by the Hindu tribal in Kandhamal, the Hindu Jagaran Samukhya has expressed its concerns and made the CRPF militants responsible for an immoral and unjust action done towards the Hindu community who are largely victimized in the communal violence. The Hindu Jagaran Samukhya state general secretary Sri Basudev Barik stated that in order to protect the residents of Kandhamal the CRPF militants are crossing their limits. The militants are torturing the tribal women and arresting the innocent people in the name of law and order by which the Hindu tribal are running to the dense forest being occupation less through miserable condition.

The no- entry zone for the VHP, the Joint secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad Shyamji Gupta; general secretary of the Orissa unit Gauri Prasad Rath; Bajrang Dal national co-convener Subhas Chauhan; and Eastern Zone Coordinator of VHP Basant Rath by the police at Phulbani, district headquarters of Kandhamal whose chief aim was to visit the place where Swamiji had been assassinated and to console the victims in the riot, is a matter of condemnation, Sri Barik said. Whereas the Christian people have been declared as the main culprits in association with the local Maoists, no prohibition is for them and other political parties, Organizations and it is the Hindu Organisation that is fully restricted to enter into riot hit Kandhamal. He asked why such kind biased decision has been made to prevent Hindu Organizations from its responsibilities?

Maoists hired to kill VHP leader`

Bhubaneswar, Oct 17: The Orissa Police have claimed that the mastermind of VHP leader Laxamananda Saraswati's killing, which sparked a wave of communal violence in Kandhamal district, had been identified as a group which hired the Maoists to execute the crime.

"Maoists were given money to train certain youths of a particular community to eliminate Saraswati", Inspector General (IG) of Police, Crime Branch, Arun Ray said, claiming the mastermind of the killings had been identified.

The mastermind has fled Orissa the IG said, adding "we will trace them soon." The plan to eliminate Saraswati was made immediately after the December 2007, communal violence in Kandhamal, he said.

Elaborating on the probe by the crime branch, he said investigations also showed that a group had collected money from some villages in Kandhamal which was given to the Maoist group to train their youths for the purpose. At least 60 youths were given arms training by Maoists, the IG said dwelling on the inputs from three arrested persons.

Ray said members of a particular community were unhappy with Saraswati and held him responsible for the riots which took place during Christmas in 2007. They requested a Maoist group to assist them in killing Saraswati, he said.

The police investigation said six Telugu-speaking persons had fired at Saraswati and others and a trained group were guarding the ashram at Jalespeta in Kandhamal during the incident.

Refusing to divulge identity and religion of the mastermind behind the killing, the IG said Maoists only executed the crime.

While the motive behind Saraswati's killing was clear, the sleuths gathered evidence against the people who plotted the crime not realising that it would trigger such large-scale violence, he said.

Cong MP suspected behind VHP leader's murder

Farzand Ahmed
Bhubaneswar, October 17, 2008

With the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) alleging that the ‘killing of its leader Swami Lakshamananda Sarwasati was hatched in the presence of Congress Rajya Sabha member R.K. Nayak', the issue is likely to get a new twist that might have lethal effect on the politics of eastern coastal state of Orissa.

The macabre killing that has resulted in the wanton anti-Church violence in the jungle-infested Kandhamal district has already put a big question-mark on the political will and administrative capability of Naveen Patnaik government in handling the situation. Now, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would turn the table to target Congress and its chief Sonia Gandhi.

Fifty four days after the Swami was slain by a group of masked men on the rain-soaked Janmasthami night in his ashram, the crime branch of the state police on Thursday claimed that it has now identified the 'master-mind' who at the moment is out of Orissa.

Arun Roy, the Inspector-General of crime branch said that the conspiracy was hatched six months before the attack and Janmasthami was fixed to 'execute' 84-year-old Swami Lakshamananda who was carrying on anti-conversion and re-conversion campaign. According to Roy a detailed blueprint was drawn up by one local group while another group was assigned the task of killing him. The group used three to four Maoist guerrillas as mercenaries and money had changed hand.

The group that gunned down the spiritual leader was led by the Maoists while the rest of team comprised local youth. The Swami along with four of his disciples was sprayed with bullets, fired from AK-47. Later to ensure his death the killers slit the veins at ankles. Quickly the CPI (Maoist) had claimed responsibility for the killing.
Incidentally the crime branch's revelation came a day after VHP national spokesperson Surendra Jain alleged in Delhi that the conspiracy was hatched in the 'presence of Congress Rajya Sabha member R. K. Nayak'. The IG (CB) without naming the 'master-mind' or the religious identity of the killers said that a chargesheet would soon be filed in this connection.

Only last week Sabyasachi Panda alias Sunil, secretary of the Orissa division of the CPI (Maoists) had told a group of journalists inside the jungles that top three leaders of Sangh Parivar-BJP leader LK Advani and VHP leaders Ashok Singhal and Praveen Togadia were on their 'hit-list'.

'We will kill the trio whenever we get the chance'. The 'most wanted' underground leader reiterated that they executed the Swami because he was responsible for the persecution and forced re-conversion of Dalit-Christians. The state Maoist chief made it clear that they were angry with the Hindutava outfits for conducting forced re-conversion.

The killing of Lakshamananda had led to violence against the Christians as the RSS-VHP believed that Christians, not the Maoists, were behind the killing. According to All India Christian Council (AICC) so far over 50 people have been slain, 300 villages have been cleansed of all Pana-Christians and 17,000 sheltered in government's refugee camps have been told they can go home only if they become Hindus.

Besides, more than 4,000 houses and more than 100 churches have been burnt. The council said 'Orissa seems not to be a part of India where the rule of law operates, and the Indian Constitution remains operative'.

A senior Home Dept official pointed out the present strife between Dalit-Panas, mostly Christians and Kondh tribe, mostly Hindus or pro-Hindus, was the outcome of a cocktail of social, ethnic and religious divide that helped Maoists to set up their base.
While over 1200 Churches and 400 Christian institutions became an eyesore for Hindutava forces, conversion indeed had been a strong issue that had helped Sangh Parivar to strengthen its roots in Orissa and helped BJP to capture power in alliance with Biju Janata Dal. The decadal census figures of Kandhamal confirm what RSS-VHP had been apprehending 'abnormal' increase in the number of Christians.

On the other hand the Centre had threatened to invoke Article 356 of the Constitution to dismiss Naveen Patnaik government as it had failed to protect the life and property of Christian minority.
Now with the police claiming to have solved the case and identified the 'master-mind', political circles in Bhubaneswar believe that police might lay its hands either on R. K. Nayak or his men.

Nayak, a former bureaucrat, was considered the chief patron of Pana Christians and protector of the Church in the district. Nayak who served the Central government as Secretary was short-listed for the post of Union Cabinet Secretary during H. D. Deve Gowda government. Being a Dalit-Christian socialist, leaders including Ramvilas Paswan and Sharad Yadav had backed his candidature then. However some adverse IB report against him came as a hurdle. In 2004 he was elected to Rajya Sabha on Congress ticket.

Hindutava forces always suspected his hand behind the killing. Political observers said that if he is named in the case then the BJD-BJP government would be killing two birds with a single stone. In one stroke it would shatter Congress in the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls due next year while the NDA would gain. Alleged involvement of Nayak would also help BJP to target Sonia Gandhi. After all everything is fair in politics and war.

Maoists were hired to kill Laxmanananda: Police

Bhubaneswar, Oct 16 2008 (PTI) In a major breakthrough the Orissa police today claimed that the mastermind behind VHP leader Laxamananda Saraswati's killing had been identified as a group had hired the Maoists to execute the crime.

"Maoists were given money to train certain youths of a particular community to eliminate Saraswati," Inspector General (IG) of Police, crime branch, Arun Ray told PTI asserting the mastermind of the killings had been identified.

Stating the mastermind had fled Orissa, the IG said "we will trace them soon." The plan to eliminate Saraswati was made immediately after the December, 2007 communal violence in Kandhamal, he added.

Elaborating the probe by the crime branch, he said investigations also showed that a group had collected money from some villages in Kandhamal which was given to the Maoist group to train their youths for the purpose.

Confirming that six Telugu-speaking persons fired at Saraswati and others, the crime branch investigation revealed that the trained group were guarding the ashram at Jalespeta in Kandhamal during the incident.

Refusing to divulge identity and religion of the mastermind behind the killing which sparked communal violence in Kandhamal, IG said Maoists only executed the crime.

While the motive behind Saraswati's killing was clear, the sleuths gathered evidences against people who planned the crime not realising that it would trigger such a largescale violence, he said. PTI

Everything is clear, GOVT yet keeps disinterest to arrest the culprits: Swami Laxmananda Saraswati Shradhanjali Samiti

Bhubaneswar, 17/10/08 (VISAKEO): The controversy about the slain of the Hindu priest Swami Laxmananda Saraswati in Kandhamal has been come to an end as the police department is confirmed about the real culprit but away off the reach, satated the state coordinator of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati Shradhanjali Samiti Dr. Laxmikant Dash at the mass rally in the state capital today. Referring to the brutal murder of the religious leader and his four associates, as well as the violence in Kandhamal he pointed out the irresponsibility and disinterest of the government and its administration to take a proper step against the conspirators.

It has been a preplanned murder and violence and the masterminds are out of reach though they have been exposed. The chief conspirators Dr. John Dayal, Raphael Chinath and Radhakanta Nayak have been proved as the real culprits but they are out of hands from the police because of their power, Christian support by the western countries and their position in the administration have made them fearless sophisticated brutal criminals. Despite all the solid evidence, they are not meant for to live behind the jail. Though the government is aware of everything yet terrorizing the innocent people in Kandhamal and makes the Hindu people for the communal violence. Dr. said, after the slain of the religious Guru on the eve of the holy Hindu celebration SriKrishna Janmastamee night, weapon A.K- 47 had been found out from the Christian people who were under security by the police in Barkhmma by which the victim Swami had been assassinated. Afterwards the government shaped the riots as the communal violence. Now the administration is focusing on so called communal violence and the justice for the slain Swami is in the waiting cell. Recently the statement of the Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda is entirely a farce dramatized the issue in order to take everybody’s attention from the truth, he commented. On an eve of sixth day of the mass dharna, the state secretary of Sikhsha Bikash Samiti Govind Mohantyand other members such as Mihir Kumar Dash, Ram Krishna Tripathy, Ketan Nayak, Netrananda Sahoo, Lingaraj Mohanty, Harish Pati, and Tuna Sahoo have demanded an immediate arrest of the culprits who are safe under the administration.

Rastriya Swabhiman Andolon appeals for the Nun and Father’s arrest

Bhubaneswar, 16/10/08 (VISAKEO): After the Nun was marked in the country’s capital, the Rastriya Swabhuman Andolon of Orissa has appealed the government to arrest both the Nun and Father who have claimed that the Nun has been raped by the Hindu workers in Kandhamal after the slain of the religious leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati. As her revelation in New Delhi under the police securty seems to be false or something self made or preplanned to avenge and to blame the Hindu cadre Organisations.

The victim Nun in Kandhamal violence who has been reportedly raped by the Hindu people who have been held in Kerala recently, in her opinion to the national media channel that she was inhumanly tortured and victimized by the Hindu agitators. The eyewitness Father had lodged a complaint against those people and both were hidden in New Delhi. Not he gives their cooperates in the police investigation. Therefore the Organisation’s state co-coordinator Sri Soumendra Jena suspects the Father himself might make the rape incident. As history is the witness of such incident, which was proved as wrong against the allegation that happened near Baripada in 1999. Sri Jena stated that the history might have been repeated, when the Father raped a Nun of Langalkata church of Krishnachandrapur about 14 K.M away from Baripada, but the Hindu people were allegedly accused. Such report was highlighted in national and international and Orissa was condemned, but the report proved as false after the investigation. In, fact two Hindu people were allegedly in the form of women had hijacked the Nun and raped her in the van. But that accusation was turned into false. Therefore, the present issue might be the conspiracy of the church people and Hindu people are being condemned, stated Sri Jena. Nothing is impossible for the missionary people; they can go to the maximum down level to spoil Hindu’s reputation in the society. Thus, such accuser should not be set free and as soon as possible if be arrested, the real thing can come to the front, he told in the press meet

Kandhamal violence degrades Indian ancient sculpture heritage

Bhubaneswar, 16/10/08 (VISAKEO): The Kandhamal violence not only has brought chaos for the human lives but its ancient sculptures have been degraded to 100 years back. The foreign aid to the local Christian community has destroyed the art and sculpture of the tribal district to expedite the process of religion conversion and to make the whole Hindu people into Christianity, opined Dr. Kamalesh Dash, the organizing secretary of Itihaas Sankalan Samiti of both Orissa and West Bengal, that have made Orissa government’s treasury unprofitable.

Condemning the communal violence in Kandhamal, Dr. Dash said that the violence have been the preplanned action of the alien force to damage Hindu’s heritage and sculpture by which the government used to fill its treasury that is meant for the welfare of the State. After the two days visit to Kandhamal by a group of five researchers on behalf of Itihaas Sankalan Samiti, Dr. Dash reported that many of our ancient sculpture havee been damaged so that now Kandhamal looks as the void of tourists and Nature lovers. Under the shadow of the violence, an ancient Jagannath temple of Baliguda, the hill station of Daringdadi, the artistic temples surrounded in greenery, the Shivlingam of G. Udaygiri, a Taurus of Raikia, an ancient Budhist sculpture of Barkhamma have been under destruction. He revealed that few Christian converts had burnt down the Hindu scriptures like Bhagabat, epics, and ancient literature and works by saint Bhim Bhoi, in front of the CRPF militant in Brhamoni village of Kandhamal. Such things are really inflammatory under which the Hindu people will be suffering from loss of their heritage and will lay a foundation for another crisis afterwards, he said.

Bajrang dal is patriotic not fundamentalist: Hindu Jagaran Samukhya

Bhubaneswar, 15/10/08 (VISAKEO): Reacting to the statement by the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Minister Sri Ramvilas Paswan on the Bajrang Dal, The Hindu Jagaran Samukhya State general secretary Basudev Barik has suspected the role these politicians in a secular state. They should know the real Hinduism and its principles. How can the Bajrang Dal be a fundamentalist? It is a patriotic organization. It is always concerned for the security of the Hindu religion that is always under the threat of other extremists and separatists as well alien religious preachers. The principle of Hinduism is meant for all acceptances and the nation like India is the burning example of this category when it was formed after independence and partition. Not a single country has sheltered such huge population comprises varieties of sects and religions. And it is the Hindu who have accepted everything, embraced the minorities. And today, the government and opposition arises the question of the authenticity of hindu people? If as per the government the Christian people are attacked, it means they must have violated some norms of the moral laws. But, the government's observation is totally false that is based on an improper and biased investigation. It is the international pressure that moulds our administration to be blind and condemning the Hindu religion for the communal violence.

In an exclusive talk with the NDTV's executive editor Burkha Dutt on NDTV, Patnaik said many of those arrested in the communal violence in the state were from the Bajrang Dal. But he refused to comment directly on a possible ban, saying he will only react when the Centre takes a final decision.

He explained that none of the letters sent by the Home Ministry mention Article 355. "President's rule in Orissa would be political misuse," he said. Orissia Chief Minister's coming to New Delhi after the violence between Hindu and Christian in Orissa is likely to fuel the debate over banning the Sangh Parivar outfit. Advisor M K Naraynan pointed out, "SIMI and Bajrang Dal are not two sides of the same coin, but both of them are dangerous." He added that "You can ban the Hindu cadre organiastion (Bajrang Dal) but you will then not be able to sustain it." Opining on the communal violence, Sri Paswan strongly recommend banning the VHP, Bajrang Dal and RSS.

Viewing against them, the Organisation's state general secretary has advised to follow them the concept of Kalapahad story. Why the Hindu cadre organization will be banned if raised its voice against the injustice? Whereas, it is not a fundamentalist, but a patriotic who always serves for he nation and its dignity. It is the misconception of the politicians who have forgotten the concept of Hinduism, the Oriya culture and traditions

Violence in Orissa and Karnatak has been conspired artificially: The Lekhak Manch

Bubaneswar, 15/10/08 (VISAKEO): The communal violence in Orissa and Karnatak that have caught the attention of both national and international media from the past two months is the handiwork of few bureaucrats and politicians. The violent environment has been created in an unnatural way to satisfy their ego and to demolish the nation's unity and integrity, stated The Lekhak Manch of Orissa Sri Laxman Panda in a press conference today. He has been disappointed saying that few political leaders are behind such inhuman conspiracy that want let our religious venue to be damaged, so that the violence should be rooted out and all the Indians to be united and integrated to tackle such problem.

After the kandhamal visit by the Organisation, Sri Panda said that it is entirely a conspiracy of the Christian community to eliminate the Hindu community with coming contact of Christian missionary people, church heads, nuns, they want all Oriya people to be converted to Christianity. It is not a recent plan to make violence, but the violence was set up long before and now it was burst out and shaped as communal violence. It is in fact, the conflict between Schedule tribes and Christian Schedule castes. He is worried about the present condition of the Hindu people in Kandhamal as the Christian people; the police and the administration are torturing them. Even, many people are on the way to dense forest for the shelter. Yet, the churches and their bishops are treated as the respected beings in the government administration as the NIC meeting held recently in New Delhi is the proper example where Dr. John Dayal had been invited. It sounds totally unjust who is allegedly a conspirator behind the murder of the Hindu Priest Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati. Such person should be punished not invited for the establishment of peace. The violence in Orissa and Karnatak is rather a political conspiracy to highlight the importance of church and the missionary in the eyes of their aids.

Save Ram sethu, save Hindu: The Dharma Surkhshya Samiti

Bhubaneswar, 15/10/08 (VISAKEO): Reacting to the statement of the government regarding Ram Sethu "the mythological Rama Setu bridge is not an essential" and "integral part of Hindu religion", The Dharma Surkhshya Samiti state Secretary Sri Golak Das has resented against the government's a kind of politics in the name of secularism. He has strongly opposed to such statement against the government's report that has been delivered to the supreme court of India.

Against the backdrop of the wicked politician's conspiracy not to sustain the holy Ram Sethu, Sri Das said, because of few tainted diplomats and the working government's monopoly policy about Hindu religion, all our heritage is under the threat. Because of government's anti nationalism and sympathetic attitude towards the minorities in spite of their criminal activities in the nation, the clash between Hindu and Christian took place, therefore, Kandhamal is now National and international media's headline. We can never tolerate such kind of impartiality in a secular State like India. Always Hindus and their heritage are under the question by various political parties. Not other religion is objected from on the culture and traditional point of view. The most ancient religion of the world seems to go under the dooms day. Explaining the government's report to the SC "It has not been proved undoubtedly to be the belief of the Hindu community that Lord Rama did not himself break the bridge. Nor has it been established that whatever remains of the Rama Setu as a piece of worship is an essential and integral part of the Hindu religion," the State Secretary of the Organisation stated, it is the country's misfortune as well as of the Hindu community to receive such irrational and false output by the government about Lord Ram and his real picture and incarnation is going to be proved as false at the door of human society. The present report of the government clearly put the question of Lord Ram's biological and true existence in Indian mythology. If Ram Sethu will be questioned, what about the existence of other Lords and saints of other religion? Why their heritage are secured and maintained and declared as the tourist place? However the report said, the opponents of the project have not proved that Rama Setu forms an "integral" and "essential" part of Hindu religion and has to be protected, and "A religious belief or practise which is not an essential and integral part of the religion is not protected by Article 25 or 26 of the Constitution"

The cops are aware of the accused and conspirators but back out to take any action against the three masterminds, the Samiti alleged. ATTACK ON OF DURGA MATA IMMERSION PROCESSION IN BHAINSA, A.P.

Adilabad,14/4(Visakeo)- In the Bhainsa town of Adilabad District of Andhra Pradesh, Muslims made a planned attack on the Durga Mata idol immersion procession. In this attack sixty one shops were gutted, five houses were burnt, nine two-wheelers and four trucks carrying cotton were burnt. Motor cycle belonging to the Municipal chairman was also burnt. Two-wheelers belonging to the reporters of dailies Eenadu and Andhra Bhoomi were also burnt. An attack was made on the house of Shri Ramdas a functionary of Hindu Vahini to kill him by taking revolver from the mosque. Shri Ramdas was not there in the house at that time. Fired bullets were found on the doors of the house. Due to the alarm made by the women in the house they ran away from the scene. Since Shri Ramdas was not in the house, his life was saved.
Sixteen shops were burgled and after stealing the maximum available, they ran away. Rice, oil tins and computers were stolen away right in front of the spectators. It was reported that attacks were made on the houses of the Police nearby. Ten rounds were fired on a house at the Panjesha Chowk. When these were going on, Police remained mute spectators. Only fifteen police personnel were there. Before the Police force came from Hyderabad and other places, damage already occurred.
Why did the attacks take place? It was Friday a day when Muslims offer prayers. By 1.00 p.m. prayers were to end. That day Durga Mata idol immersion was to take place. At 3.00 p.m. procession was going on in front of the Mosque. On a day like this when devotion rendered songs were being played with enthusiasm during procession, it was a very natural thing for sprinkling of bukka roses around. Under the pretext that these bukka roses were sprinkled on the walls of the Mosque and on the Muslims nearby, attacks were started. Firstly, stone pelting started from the minars of the Mosque and the procession got scattered. One Shri N.R. Bhutan said to be an immigrant from Bihar working as a color painter and Shri Bola after completion of Durga Puja for nine days joined the procession. When they were trying to protect the idol from the stone pelting, muslim miscreants came from the Mosque and stabbed the elder brother Shri Butan. The younger brother was also stabbed and seeing the stab wounds they left him thinking him dead. He is now taking treatment from the hospital. Shri Butan who died had three small children all daughters, namely Kushba, Ragini and Vaishnavi. What sin have they committed?.

In these incidents, three constables and Sub Inspector were injured. Shri Shafullah M.I.M. president led these attacks. How the stones, knives and crowbars came inside the Mosque? One can understand how grave the situation is when we hear that revolvers and guns were used.

During 1998 Vinayak Immersion procession also such incidents took place and this is known to all. One Shri Ajam belonging to Deendar Anjuman and Simi have contacts in this town. Such being the case, it is surprising that only 15 constables are stationed there. Some Muslims and Hindus were held.
One Hindu and two Muslims died in the incidents. Shri Kishan Reddy BJP MLA who went there with members demanded the Government to order a comprehensive enquiry into the entire episode.

Two Hindus killed in Kandhamala

Bhubaneswar, 13/10/08 (VISAKEO): The action of torture on the Hindu people has been continuing since an emergence of Christian missionaries and churches in the small area like Kandhamala that comprises Schedule castes and Schedule tribes. The Christian community recently in Raikia and Daringbadi of Kandhamala allegedly has killed two Hindu people. Reacting the duo murder a group of women has kicked off a rally, road blockade and made the police out post gherao and handed over the demand letter to the out post in charge.

A 70-year-old Hindu tribal Krishna Chandra Pradhan and another victim Birupakhya Majhi (40)’s decomposed corpse have been found from a secluded place and a well respectively. Such violence is still taking place under a tight security in Kandhamala in the mid day light, the residents have bben shocked and astonished and questioned the administration.

Violence re-strikes in Kantamala; 23 arrested

Bhubaneswar, 13/10/08 (VISAKEO): Again violence has stroke in Kantamala that burnt down homes of the Hindu Harizan families on the eve of Mahanavamee of Durga puja night. The tragedy has made other Hindu people of that block panic and fear that they are bound to flee from their homes ultimately and seek refuge in the dense forest. Such incident has brought into action from 27th September till date where only Hindu reserved class people are getting victim of the violence after the murder of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati.

Source said, around 25-30 people spread terror by fire crackers on that night of Tendokhuti village, then drove out the Hindu families and set the fire on their homes in front of them. The victimized people ran towards the forest to save their lives that made the criminal giants to kill brutally the domestic animals such cows, goats, sheep and looted the precious articles along with money. The victims and the ward member of that village have alleged the Christian people doing such inhuman action on the basis of grudge and vendetta on the matter of Swamiji’s murder aftermath. The victims have taken the shelter under the State administration. The police have arrested 23 people and two Christian accused Durjan Malik and Ramesh Malik of Kandapali and Lendalimala village respectively. The district collector Mohan Prasad Mishra and police SP Vishnu Prasad Padhi had reached at that village for the observation and consoled the losers to do the best for them on behalf of the government. But the out of fear and uncertain situation many Hindu people are fleeing to the forest to be exempted from the panic situation aroused by the Christian missionaries.

Government’s soft attitude towards the minorities people’s fault threatens India's social stability: VHP

Bhubaneswar, 13/10/08 (VISAKEO) — The VHP has blamed the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his recent statement on communal violence in the poor state like Orissa that is the chief factor for the wide spread of in another parts of the country. The Pariwar has shown its discontentment towards such accusation that the VHP and Bajrang Dal are responsible in rising ethnic and communal tensions in India and considered these organizations as extremist elements for fuelling the violence through out the nation.

His comments came against a backdrop of unrest, particularly attacks by Hindus on Christians in eastern Orissa and southern Karnataka states, and clashes between Muslims and tribal groups in the northeast, Singh told a conference of chief state ministers in New Delhi, which comments are purely baseless. Perhaps he wants to be the darling of the Christian and other minorities in the eyes of Sonia Gandhi who is in fact a non- religion woman in India who has captured the real power in the country, the Sangh said.

Though India is proud of its of a multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multi-caste society, everybody should maintain and know their limits and obey the guidelines of the constitution. But, the minorities are taking up the advantage of the government’s soft attitude towards them and torturing the poor Hindu community in the form of wealth, power and boastfulness.
"There are clashes between Hindus, Christians, Muslims and tribal groups. The alien forces with the support of the political leaders and few vested interests are knowingly generating an atmosphere of hatred and violence. India is officially secular but certain laws should execute the secularism. But, the minorities are openly involved in the action of religion conversion by the physical force, misery and different kind of entices, which is not acceptable at any cost. In his recent press meet, the prime Minister never shown his sorrowful feelings on the poor victim of the Hindu priest and his four associated who were brutally killed by the Christian people that erupted Hindu-Christian violence in Orissa in August and it is continuing till today. The Sangh pariwar also has made the UPA government responsible for the past serial bomb blast in UP, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Jaipur, Gujarat, and Delhi and such terrorism is nothing but the result of the government’s inefficiencies and lack of interest to tackle the terrorism in a systematic way.
That is true that Singh has previously described the left-wing rebels, known as Naxalites, as the biggest threat to internal security, but his attitude and ignorant knowledge about the terrorism and its alliance organizations are equally as dangerous as the local terrorists like Naxals and Maos. Reacting to the Prime Minister’s opinion in the Country’s capital the State general Secretary of the VHP Gouri Prasad Rath said that at any cost the Hindu would never bow down their head in the matter of illegal conversion and poignant torture on the innocent Hindu people by the Christian or any other religious people. It is impossible to bring back the peace and harmony in any controversial or objectionable place due to communal violence by the hand of softness towards the culprits and the conspirators.

Kandhamala violence is the proof of the State’s failure of law and order system that made the whole nation as an incapable and out of form in the Universe. The torture and inhuman action against the innocent people, the misbehavior of the women in the remote villages of Kandhamala have created terror and panic among the tribal people that compel them to flee from their homes and lands. The police department is aware of the accused and conspirators but back out to take any action against the three masterminds Raphael Chinath, Radhakanta Nayak and John Dayal. Bhubaneswar:(Visakeo) More than five thousand women of K Nuagaon block in Orissa’s Kandhamal district on Monday gheraoed the local Block Office and demanded that the rapist should be married to the nun, who is claiming to be raped. The demand of the locals came a day, when the three accused arrested in the nun rape case, were on their way to Orissa for further interrogation. Nun gang rape, a repeat of 1999 episode, RSA

Bhubaneswar: (visakeo) firebrand Hindu leader Govinadacharya led Rashtriya Swabhiman Andolan on Friday enquired whether the Kandhamal Nun gang rape issue, a repeat of 1999 episode, in which Nun Jacklin Merry (32) had alleged that she had been gang raped by a group of people on February 4, 1999. The matter was subsequently probed false while the Nun had physical relationship with others prior to that particular incident.RSA state chief Soumendra Jena while reacting to Kandhamal Nun gang rape issue, said that it was pre-planned conspiracy of the Church to divert attention from Swami Laxmananda Saraswati murder case.
According to reports, the matter took place on August 25 but the matter came to light after more than a month, which, we suspect as a major conspiracy of the church to cover the main issue, Jena alleged. Attacking one-sided media reports, Jena suggested going to the root and revealing the truth not trivia. A Chennai based national English daily first reported the matter because of church’s influence in South India. It was nothing a well-planned theory of the church, which masterminds the killing of Swamiji, he added.

CRPF loot villages in Chakapada

Tactics and Propaganda of Proselytization

Ours is an era of capitalism-an era marked by financial prowess, controlled by financial czars, and ruled by corrupt politicos. The greatest weapon of our times is not one that kills the body"s power to breathe, but the one which kills the mind"s power to reason-propaganda. Any person or institution which successfully utilizes this system is the one who can be victorious in all endeavors. Organizations in this country, apart from political parties, who use propaganda are Christian missionary institutions. Their sole reason for being is to proselytize the masses, largely Hindus, into ardent Christians.

Beginning from the time of the British, we have developed a system of negation. We have often demeaned our own religions, cultures, and knowledge, thereafter hailing the western ones. How often have we spoken of caste, creed, and other discriminatory practices like Sati and child marriage in our textbook? And how much have we cared to inform our generation about the brutality of Christianity which has for itself the most blood-soaked history?

Recently, when violence flamed in Khandamal district of Orissa, mainline media were quick enough to criticize the violent agitation of VHP, while at the same time hastening to defend the foreign Christian missionaries whom they called "peaceful". I am still not clear as to what is making our eminent journalists term those missionaries "peaceful", whereas their ambitions are such that they can"t be achieved without disturbing peace and harmony.

In this context, I recall an instance where our late President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, had once gone to Assam where he visited the schools and hospitals established by Christian missionaries in those hilly regions. He expressed his appreciation and yet, also advised them saying "You have no doubt done very good work. But do not exploit all these things for the purpose of proselytization." However, one of the missionaries bluntly replied, "If we had been prompted to do all this by mere humanitarian considerations, why should we have come all the way here? Why should we have spent so much money? We are here for only one reason and that is to increase the number of followers of our Lord Jesus Christ."

These missionaries feel that all tactics, however foul, are fair. The various surreptitious and mean methods they employ for conversion are all too well-known. There is the case of a village where, in the census, the Christian missionaries got the whole population registered as Christians. When this was revealed, the people protested, and were told by the missionaries, "Nothing can be done now. You have been registered as Christians in government records. So you have to behave as Christians hereafter." The poor Hindu villagers, cut off from the support and succor of the indifferent Hindu society, believed their words and embraced Christianity. It is through such tactics that they are swelling their numbers with each passing day. It is popular knowledge that many leading Christian missionaries have often declared unequivocally that their one single aim is to make this country "a Kingdom of Christ".

What many people don"t know is that Christ was born a Jew, lived a Jew, and died a Jew. He is not the founder of Christianity. If Christ could form a group of people called Christians and divide a section of society bringing about several wars and killing millions of people, then Christ cannot be considered a holy man. Christ did not build churches or sit in confession boxes. The cunning priests made Christ a son of God and created sin, hell, and heaven, to terrorize the people so that they can dominate and exploit them. It is evident that Christianity, followed by Islam, has killed more people than anything else in the world.

Sometime ago, I happened to read Edward Gibbons "Decline and Fall of Roman Empire". In the book, he makes an observation on early Christians and their tactics for conversion. Gibbons quotes a Roman proconsul who wrote that Christians have a very effective method of getting noticed and portraying themselves as "victims" in order to advance their cause. Whenever a minute transgression occurs, or even an attempt is made to implement law against them, they kick up a fuss and in such a rowdy manner that one would think that a "great injustice" had been committed against them!

Christianity does not have a reputation for tolerance and respect for other religions. The Christian need to convert the entire world has been an historical obsession that continues in major Christian fundamentalist groups even today-both Protestant and Catholic. The Christian missionaries" failure to honor other religions, particularly non-biblical traditions, is well-known, with Christians still denigrating the sophisticated yogic traditions of Asia as mere superstition, idolatry, and polytheism. Christian missionaries are known for using methods that are not always honest, including employing military and political force during the colonial era, to promote conversion. Their targeting of the poor and illiterate, shows that they don"t like open debates in the light of day. Yet Christians like to ignore such inconvenient facts while posing as peaceful people concerned with human welfare, not with conversion. They are surprised if members of other religions are suspicious of them, despite their considering and condemning these religions as works of the Devil. They are easily hurt and insulted should anyone "question their motives".

In the modern secular world, Christians along with Muslims, now demand conversion as a democratic right, even though their religion is authoritarian, and not democratic, accepting only one way; and not honoring pluralism in approaching the "Divine". They offer no freedom of choice about the "Savior" or the book or the creed that can bring salvation, and there is little tolerance for those who choose another way outside their faith. Europe had to reject the church and Christian dogma in order to become democratic over the past several centuries. Considering this, Christian churches should be the last to talk about "democratic rights". It is merely a smokescreen for promoting their own agendas, spreading their authoritarian and exclusivist beliefs, recklessly eliminating other cultures and religions along the way.

Some years ago, there were serial church bombings in South India. It turned out that the charges made by Christian leaders against Hindu organizations, accusing them of the bombings, were unfounded, if not malicious. However, instead of admitting their mistake, Christian leaders and organizations started a propaganda campaign again, blaming Hindu organizations for "creating an atmosphere" that led to these crimes! The arrests in this regard, in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, showed that "Deendal Anjuman", a Muslim outfit, headed by a Pakistani national was behind most of the blasts and attacks on Christian groups in southern India. The Christian response has been to ignore or deny the report, though it is quite well-documented and occurred in states not ruled by the so-called "Hindu BJP". For further details, I recommend reading of "Church Blasts: Truth and Propaganda" by S Y Seshagiri Rao.

Christians in India, who exaggerate such minor incidents, somehow never speak of the fact that more churches have been burnt in America in recent years than in India. Several dozen Black American churches were burnt to the ground. Christian priests and ministers are robbed, assaulted, and sometimes killed in all Western countries in numbers unlike what occurs in India. We should note that the number of priests in America arrested for sexual molestation of children far surpasses the priests assaulted in India. Should we use that to make conclusions about the nature of Christianity?

It is a fact that many more pagans were killed by Christians, and thousands of pagan temples destroyed throughout Europe by this "peaceful" community. The great Greek (Neo-platonic) Academy in Alexandria was destroyed and its illustrious scholars like Hypatia, killed by Cyril-none other than "Saint Cyril"! The number of Native Americans killed or forcibly converted by Catholics is in the millions, and yet Catholics rush to martyr the few priests killed by Native Americans. There are many more such incidents of Christian oppression.

Writes David Frawley in his book "The Missionary Ploy"- "As a former Catholic, I know in what little esteem the Church holds Hinduism and Buddhism with all their great sages and yogis. Christianity, like Islam, sees tolerance not as a virtue to be emulated but as a weakness to be exploited. Were Christians really to honor Hinduism as a valid religion, all Hindu-Christian hostility could easily come to an end. As long as Christians hold that theirs alone is the "True Faith" and work to convert members of other religions in one way or another, they should not be surprised if members of other religions do not welcome their presence."

It is only a matter of time before missionary Christianity is seen for what is imperialism in the name of God and Christ; the proverbial wolf in sheep"s clothing. It is a political, worldly movement, with little spirituality in it. Unfortunately, such Christians confuse real Divine work, which involves improving the self through introspection, with the institutional work of imposing a single belief upon all humanity. This political view of religion has no place in the global age of consciousness that is dawning on enlightened minds all over the world today. The quicker it comes to an end, the better it will be for all of humanity!

Conversion, law in Orissa

By Barendra Krushna Dhal

Orissa is burning. In one side communal violence and other side flood mayhem. So overall State is burning. Media in India focusing two issues prominently while foreign media only propagating attack on churches and Christians in Orissa. But the real story of Swami Laxmananda Saraswati murder has been gradullay vanishing from the scene.

No body is bother about the killers of Swamiji and his four disciples, who were shot dead at Jalespata Ashram in Kandhamal district on August 23. From Pope to other senior Church leaders only making propaganda by high lighting attack on Christians and trying to cover up the murder of a social reformer like Swamiji.

During last 20 years, the number of Christian religious preachers has gone up to 30% in Gajapati, 18% in Kandhamal and 16 % in Sundargarh.

On January 22, 1999, Graham Stains and his two sons were burnt to death at Manoharpur in Anadapur Sub-Division of Orissa’s Keonjhar district. Police arrested Dara Singh as key accused in the case. Dara first got death sentence and later it was relaxed to life sentence.

But real fact was shocking for us, Stains was running a hospital for leprosy patients, where he was forcing innocent Hindu tribals to convert into Christians. WHO had opened a hospital to deal with such issues but why Stains opend a hospital there, the question still remain unanswered?

On February 3, 1999, a Nun Jaklin Merry lodged a FIR with Baripada Police that some Hindu people raped her. When the Nun under went medical test, doctors found that she had physical relationship with others prior to the incident. Why the police not arrest the father and Nun, who had lodged a FIR.

Why church people think, Orissa as a best destination for conversion? In pre-independence days, Britishers were patronizing conversion while after independence, secular forces in the country, making all out effort to see more number of churches should come up and large number of Hindus to convert into Christianity.

In an attempt to check conversion, Orissa as a first State in the country, introduced Orissa Freedom of Religion Act in 1967. On December 13, 1967, the law came into force. Two former Orissa Chief Ministers including Rajendra Narayan Singh Deo and Harekrushna Mahatab were among those persons, who really mastermind behind the law to check conversion in the State. In January 1968, it was published in extraordinary gazette no-2.

Here are some lines of the Act.

Section-3 Prohibition of forcible conversion: No person shall convert or attempt to convert either directly or otherwise, any person, any person from one religious faith to another by the use of force or by inducement or by any fraudulent means nor shall any person abet any such conversion.

Punishment for contravention of the provisions of section-3: Any person contravening the provisions contained in section 3 shall, without prejudice to any civil liability, be punishable with imprisonment of either description, which may extend to one year or with fine, which may extended to Rs 5000 or with both.

Despite this stringent law, hundreds of Christian missionaries doing conversion activities in Kandhamal, the erstwhile Baudha and Phulabani, Ganjam, Parlakhemundi, Sundargarh, Sambalpur , Koraput and several other tribal dominated areas of the State.

They either forcibly or luring innocent tribals, continued their activities while defying law of the land. Both Catholic and Protestants engaged in conversion. Fathers of Catholic churches and Pastors of Protestants bodies patronizing them.

Due to lack of political will and other reasons, the law could not materialize even after 22 years of its enactment as the policy makers failed to put valid provisions in the law. When JB Patnaik was Chief Minister, he passed it on November 29, 1989 in the Orissa Assembly and it was published in gazette on February 23, 1990 under the name of The Orissa Freedom of Religion Rules of 1989. After the act, JB Patnaik lost his post while another Congress man Hemananda Biswal remained as Chief Minister of the State for a brief period, Biswal given a final node to it.

According to the new provisions, any person want to host conversion activity, should seek prior permission to concerned District Collectors. The law also asked Collectors to list out how many religious outfits are working in his jurisdiction. But no collector responded to the law while church people carry out their mission easily. In Orissa, official two persons have applied for conversion while rest have been done illegally and unconstitutionally.

The brutal killing of Swamiji and four of his disciples in Kandhamal could have been avoided if politicians, law makers and babus takes enough steps to check conversion in Orissa.

Shillong: Seen as the face of hardline Hindutva, senior BJP leader L K Advani on Monday said he was "very much a secular man" and his party stood for peaceful co-existence of all religious groups.

"I studied in a Christian missionary school and I am very much a secular man," a BJP spokesperson quoted Advani as saying during a close-door meeting he had with religious leaders here.

Representatives from Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist and tribal organisations participated in the meet that was aimed at clarifying the saffron party's stand on the attacks on Christians, churches and prayer halls in Orissa and Karnataka.

Quoting the BJP leader, BJP MP, Kiren Rijiju said, "Religious sentiment should not precede national interest. India is a secular country and no section of the society should be neglected.”

"In Orissa, untouchability among the Hindus and a simmering discontent among the lower strata have drawn people to other religions. Social acceptance is a big dilemma there," the BJP leader said.

Chief Minister Donkupar Roy and other Christian leaders expressed anguish over the attacks on Christians in Orissa and Karnataka.

As the church leaders expressed doubts over the governance of the BJP, Advani assured that he had asked the chief ministers of Orissa and Karnataka to institute judicial probes into the incidents and bring the culprits to book
