Minister asks Muslims to back anti-cow slaughter Bill

Minister asks Muslims to back anti-cow slaughter Bill

HASSAN: Minister for Wakf and Minorities Welfare Mumtaz Ali Khan has called upon Muslims in the State not to oppose the Bill banning cow slaughter.
The Minister said he too would not oppose the Bill as only 30 per cent of Muslims consumed beef. Moreover, the Bharatiya Janata Party Government was committed to improve the lot of the minorities, even though they had been used as vote-bank by the Opposition, he said.
Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Dr. Khan said the State Government was committed to providing financial assistance to all those who stood to lose their livelihood following the Government’s decision on the ban. The Minister said that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa would increase the allocation for minorities welfare from Rs. 186 crore to Rs. 300 crore. The funds would be used for the overall development of minorities in the State, he said. The literacy rate among Muslims would also be increased to help them secure employment, he said.(THE HINDU)

My name is not Khan, I am Mr Kaul

My name is not Khan, I am Mr Kaul
Tarun Vijay, 22 December 2009, 08:55 AM IST

I am not Khan. My name bears a different set of four letters: K A U L. Kaul. As those who know Indian names would understand I happened to be born in a family which was called Hindu by others. Hence, we were sure, we would never get a friend like KJ to make a movie on our humiliations, and the contemptuous and forced exile from our homeland. It's not fashionable. It's fashionable to get a Khan as a friend and portray his agony and pains and sufferings when he is asked by a US private to take off his shoes and show his socks. Natural and quite justifiable that Khan must feel insulted and enraged. Enough Masala to make a movie.
But unfortunately I am a Kaul. I am not a Khan.
Hence when my sisters and mothers were raped and killed, when six-year-old Seema was witness to the brutal slaughtering of her brother, mother and father with a butcher's knife by a Khan, nobody ever came to make a movie on my agony, pain and anguish, and tears.

we look at our own selves as Kauls, we also see a macabre dance of leaders who people Parliament. Some of them were really concerned about us. They got the bungalows and acres of greenery and had their portraits were worshipped by the gullible devotees of patriotism But unfortunately I am a Kaul.
No KJ would make a movie on Kashmiri Hindus. Because we are not Khans. We are Kauls

They made reservations in schools and colleges for us. In many many other states. But never did they try that we go back to our homes. They have other priorities and 'love your jihadi neighborhood' programmes. They get flabbier and flabbier with the passing of each year, sit on sacks of sermons; issue instructions to live simply and follow moral principles delivered by ancestors and kept in documents treated with time-tested preservatives. They could play with me because my name is Kaul. And not Mr Khan. I saw the trailer to this fabulous movie, which must do good business at the box office. There was not even a hint that terror is bad and it is worse if it is perpetuated in the name of a religion that means Peace. Peace be upon all its followers and all other the creatures too.So you make a movie on the humiliation of taking off shoes to a foreign police force which has decided not to allow another 9/11.
The humiliation of taking off the shoes and the urge to show that you are innocent is really too deep. But what about the humiliation of leaving your home and hearth and the world and the relatives and wife and mother and father? And being forced to live in shabby tents, at the mercy of nincompoop leaders encashing your misery and bribe-seeking babus? And seeing your daughters growing up too sudden and finding no place to hide your shame?
No KJ would ever come forward to make a movie, a telling, spine-chilling narration on the celluloid, of five-year-old Seema, who saw her parents and brother being slaughtered by a butcher's knife in Doda. Because her dad was not Mr Khan. He was one Mr Kaul.
Sorry, Mr Kaul and your entire ilk. I can't help you.
It's not fashionable to side with those who are Kauls. And Rainas. And Bhatts. Dismissively called KPs. KPs means Kashmiri Pandits. They are a bunch of communalists. They were the agents of one Mr Jagmohan who planned their exodus so that Khans can be blamed falsely. In fact, a movie can be made on how these KPs conspired their own exile to give a bad name to the loving and affectionate Khan brothers of the valley.
To voice the woes of Kauls is sinful. The right course to get counted in the lists of the Prime Minister's banquets and the President's parties is to announce from the roof top: hey, men and ladies, I am Mr Khan.

The biggest apartheid the state observes is to exclude those who cry for Kauls, wear the colours of Ayodhya, love the wisdom of the civilisational heritage, dare to assert as Hindus in a land which is known as Hindustan too and struggle to live with dignity as Kauls. They are out and exiled. You can see any list of honours and invites to summits and late-evening gala parties to toast a new brand. All that the Kauls are allowed is a space at Jantar Mantar: shout, weep and go back to your tents after a tiring demonstration. Mr Kaul, you have got a wrong name
A dozen KJs would fly to take you atop the glory - posts and gardens of sympathies if you accept to wear a Khan name and love a Sunita, Pranita, Komal or a Kamini. Well, here you have a sweetheart in Mandira. That goes well with the story.
And you pegged the movie plot on autism.
I wept. It was too much. I wept as a father of a son who needed a story as an Indian. Who cares for his autistic son, his relationship with the western world, his love affair with a young sweet something as a human, as someone whose heart goes beyond being a Hindu, a Muslim or a proselytizing Vatican-centric aggressive soul. Not the one who would declare in newspaper interviews: "I think I am an ambassador for Islam". Shah Rukh is Shah Rukh, not because he is an ambassador for Islam. If that was true, he could have found a room in Deoband. Fine enough. But he became a heartthrob and a famousl star because he is a great actor. He owes everything he has to Indians and not just to Muslims. We love him not because he is some Mr Khan. We love him because he has portrayed the dreams, aspirations, pains, anguish and ups and downs of our daily life. As an Indian. As one of us.
If he wants to use our goodwill and love for strengthening his image as an ambassador for Islam, will we have to think to put up an ambassador for Hindus? That, at least to me, would be unacceptable because I trust everyone: a Khan or a Kaul or a Singh or a Victor. Who represents India represents us all too, including Hindus. My best ambassadorship would be an ambassadorship for the tricolour and not for anything else because I see my Ram and Dharma in that. I don't think even an Amitabh or a Hritik would ever think in terms Shah Rukh has chosen for himself. But shouldn't these big, tall, successful Indians who wear Hindu names make a movie on why Kauls were ousted? Why Godhra occurred in the first place? Why nobody, yes, not a single Muslim, comes forward to take up the cause of the exiled and killed and contemptuously marginalized Kauls whereas every Muslim complainant would have essentially a Hindu advocate to take on Hindus as fiercely as he can
If you are Mr Khan and found dead on the railway tracks, the entire nation would be shaken. And he was also a Rizwan. May be just a coincidence that our Mr Khan in the movie is also a Rizwan
Rizwan's death saw the police commissioner punished and cover stories written by missionary writers. But if you are a Sharma or a Kaul and happened to love an Ameena Yusuf in Srinagar, you would soon find your corpse inside the police thana and NONE, not even a small-time local paper would find it worthwhile to waste a column on you. No police constable would be asked to explain how a wrongly detained person was found dead in police custody?
Because the lover found dead inside a police thana was not Mr Khan. No KJ would ever come forward to make a movie on 'My name is Kaul. And I am terror-struck by Khans'.
Give me back my identity as an Indian, Mr. Khan and I would have no problem even wearing your name and appreciating the tender love of an autistic son.

An R C School where students become labourers

An R C School where students become labourers

Over 500 children are studying in a Roman Catholic School in Kallakurichi, Villupuram District. Construction work for the school expansion is going on. The school management made the students of 7th and 8th standards carry loads of bricks and sand. Moreover, the Paadri made the students bathe his pet dogs. When parents came to know about such ill treatment, they protested in front of the school. Local councilor Gopal held talks between the two sides and the Paadri assured that such a blunder will not be repeated.

Orissa Government deceived Hindu society- Ashok singhl

Orissa Government deceived Hindu society- Ashok singhl
Maos are pawns of China Army

Bhubaneswar (Visakeo)- Odisha Government can not restrain the sensitive conversion rather supporting the murderers of Swami Laxmananda by not putting them behind the bars. Thousands of hindus have been arrested against false cases. So Navin pattanaik played foul with Hindus. An anguished Singhl expressed his desire not to meet sh. Pattanaik Personally.
Addressing a press conference here at Bhubaneswar Sh, Singhl said, Late Swami Laxmananda was not of Vishwa Hindu Parishad only, he belonged to all the Hindus. He was a saint. He was trying to stop Conversion. So alien forces planned his killing and succeeded on 23rd August 2008 the holy day of Janmastami. Government of Odisha is protecting the culprits instead of arresting them. He alleged that CM’s sister-in-law in Delhi is behind the conspiracy. Though 95 percent of the population in Odisha is Hindu, the Foreigners are making conversion unopposed. Now there is foreign rule in Odisha. State Governments are exploiting the public by taking controls of 17 thousands Muttha and temples in Odisha, 34 thousands in Andhrapradesha, 20 thousands in Tamilnadu and 15 thousands in kerala by virtue of endowment Act. The European delegation invited by Smt. Sonia Gandhi made close door meeting in a church to promote conversion. Further no such communal delegation should be allowed to investigate our internal matters. Now three Forces are putting our country into danger. They are Muslim motivated Jehadis, Missionaries and China backed Maoists. They all are on the path of violence. He further added that there is no place of violence in any religion. In maoist organizations more than half are Christians. So missionaries are providing financial supports to Maoists.

On Ram janmabhumi he said ,it is not a political issue rather a religious one. BJP has no relation with it. Temple will be constructed soon on the site. VHP has no plan to take part in active politics. On the issue of Saharukh Khan starer My name is Khan he said that such a name is not good for the society. It should have been changed.
Now western culture is trying hard to ruin our age old Indian culture. There is no scarcity of love and affection in India and there is no need of observing Valentine’s Day.

The atheist government in center and Sonia Gandhi are trying to blame our sadhus. Sadwi Pragnya was arrested on charge of terrorism. They are trying to dam the stream of River Ganga, Giving false affidavits on Ram setu and Ramjanmabhumi. India will be financially strong by protecting our cattle resources and river Ganga.
In the press meet General secretary of VHP odisha Sh Gouri Prasad ratha , eastern region president sh. Raghunatha Mahaptra and secretary sh. Sarat ch. Sarangi are present.

Bhgawat hits out at US, China
-Third party interference over Kashmir dispute unacceptable

BHUBANESWAR (VISAKEO): Sarsanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Mohan Rao Bhagwat on January 26 came down heavily on the US and China and asked New Delhi to act promptly against the anti-India elements. Addressing RSS workers here at Capital High School Ground in Bhubaneswar, Mr Bhagwat said India should not hold any daydream that America could control Pakistan in checking insurgency in the country.
“America preaches for India while it is powering Pakistan to fulfill its design of a showdown with China and impose its agenda (in South Asia),” Bhagwat said. The RSS chief said America cannot control Pakistan, as it wanted to take on China through Kashmir, where the neighbouring country had been flaring up insurgency. While China, too eyeing on India and have forcible occupied Indian Territory in Arunachal Pradesh. “Barring Pakistan, China wants to establish its authority not on in India, but also in Burma, Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, Bangladesh to became a dominant force in entire Asia,” the RSS chief.Bhagwat also urged New Delhi to demolish the terror camps in Pakistan since Islamabad has admitted having no control over the terror groups operating on its soil. Army guarding our borders in Jammu and Kashmir should take on terror elements instead taking a soft stand on cross border infiltration, he said. The RSS chief reminded the people that the culture and civilisation of India is age-old and has withstood the shocks of the centuries and would also do so in the days ahead.
He called upon Indians to wash off the blot and stigma of one thousand years of hangover of alien culture and feel proud of being a true Hindu or an Indian. Bhagwat mentioned that former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam is of the same opinion. He criticised those who are of the view that there are divisions among Indians. Although India appears being divided owing to its multiplicity of cultures and ethnic groups and variety of languages, it is one and inseparable underneath like water in a pond after the weeds are uncovered from the surface. Bhagwat said the Muslim and Christian “brethrens” should not feel alienated or estranged from the national mainstream because “since long ago we all have come from the same predecessors.” Mr Bhagwat also called up RSS workers to expidite Sangh Sakhas across the country and played a major role in nation building. Bhagwat also expressed concern about the plight of Kashmiri Pandits. He called for the settlement of Hindus in the Kashmir region where laws prohibit outsiders from to buying property."Indian patriots should be more in number in our Kashmir. For this if we have to inhabit more of India lovers then we must. If people residing in Kashmir are not loyal to their motherland and do not consider themselves as Indians, then we should not hesitate to settle the state with Indian patriots," Bhagwat said.Guest of honour Swami Prajnananandaji Maharaj, a noted saint of the Swami Hariharananda Giri lineage, was of the view that the present political map of India is not the real one. Once upon a time, the map included a large portion of the continent of Asia, and all seers agree with Shri Aurobinda that the map will be restored one day. He reminded that anything foreign is not superior to everything that is Indian. Earlier, Pranta Karyabaha Gopal Prasad Mohapatra introduced the guest after a fascinating drill of the RSS cadets. Prantiya Sanghchalak Bipin Bihari Nanda, Pranta Pracharak, Jagadish Prasad Khadanga, Pranta Prachar Pramukha Ravi Narayan Panda and Zilla Pracharaks, Bibhaga Pracharaks, were present. Also present were prominent BJP leaders like Manmohan Samal, Biswabhusan Harichandan and Suresh Pujari and eminent RSS personalities like Asim Basu.

Dalai asks China to remain more transparent
CHANDRAGIRI/BHUBANESWAR (VISAKEO): With Communist ruled China’s forcible infiltration into Indian territory in Arunachal Pradesh hitting headlines in past couple of weeks, Noble laureate and Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama on January 12 accused Beijing of not cooperating to improve its bilateral ties with New Delhi.“I would be happy if China remains more transparent for ensuring a good relation with New Delhi,” the exile leader told reporters on the third day of his four-day long Orissa visit.“I always support good relation between New Delhi and Beijing but the later has not been transparent,” he said at Chandragiri in State’s Gajapati district. Dalai Lama denied that his presence and activities affected relations between China and India. The spiritual leader asked people across the world to visit Tibet under the “military occupation” of China to see for themselves the “sufferings” of Tibetans.Particularly after 2008, the situation has turned worse in Tibet and your Tibetan fellow human beings are undergoing the worst-ever suffering under Chinese military rule,” the Buddhist monk said. The Dalai Lama’s impassioned plea came within a year of his appeal last March to the UN and other international agencies to “inspect the violation of human rights” in Tibet. The agencies, however, did not respond to the spiritual leader’s appeal from Dharamsala, the seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile, apparently because of China’s clout.“The Chinese government’s propaganda agencies tell that 50 to 60 per cent people in Tibet are happy for they have no objection to living under Chinese rule. If after visiting China you find truth with what China has been propagating, I will have no objection. But visit the place under the military dictatorship of the worst order to make an assessment of the truth on your own,” he said.

Do’nt allow Jobra barrage water to POSCO, BJP tells Naveen

BHUBANESWAR (VISAKEO): Stepping up its protest against South Koren steel maker, Orissa unit of BJP on January 8 asked Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to not supply water from the Jobra barrage in Cuttack to the mega steel plant project proposed to be come up in State’s Jagatsinghpur.BJP president Juel Oram and senior leader Bijaya Mohapatra told reporters here that the state government had decided to supply the water of Jobra barrage, meant for irrigation, to the POSCO project and soon an agreement would be signed between the government and the multi-national company in this regard.
Mohapatra said such decision of the government would lead to an alarming situation in Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack districts as the farmers in these region would be deprived of irrigation water. The BJP would oppose the move tooth and nail in the interest of the state and the farmers, he added. He said the jobra barrage was conceived only for irrigation purposes and accordingly the farmers in three coastal districts had been drawing water for irrigation through the Taldanda canal and Macchgaon canal linked to the Jobra barrage.
Mohapatra said as against the barrage capacity of 3000 cusecs water per day, the POSCO project alone would be drawing nearly 1389 cusecs water, upsetting the agricultuture in the region. He said it was most shocking that the Irrigation department in October last had maintained that there was no water in the barrage for use of irrigation purposes, but yet the government was going ahead with the proposal to supply water to the POSCO project at the cost of the farmers of three districts. The state government must find out other alternative water sources for the POSCO project and drop the idea of providing Jobra barrage water for industrial use, the BJP leader said.He also cautioned that the government would be ''responsible for the consequences'' if it obliged the POSCO at the cost of the farmers and signed the agreement to supply water to the proposes steel plant.

Row over book in Western Orissa

SAMBALPUR( VISAKEO): People in Orissa’s western parts have strongly opposed a book titled 'Popular religion-Studies on Mahima Dharma', which threw some light on the life and character of Santh kabi Bhima Bhoi. The effigies of the writers were burnt at Kandhara village, the birthplace of Santh Kabi, near Rairkhol in Sambalpur district by the angry villagers. Educationist Krishna Chandra Pradhan reacted sharply stating that the book contained nude, ugly, false and fabricated comments on the famous poet.He said how could a foreign writer and an unidentified Journalist from Orissa, the co author of the book, could know the character of Santh Kabi Bhima Bhoi. This was nothing but to gain cheap popularity overnight. In chapter seven and page 136 and 140 of the book, it was mentioned that Bhima Bhoi was a man of lascivious character and had illicit affairs with many women.Pradhan said Santh Kabi in his writings prayed before the Almighty for salvation of the entire mankind. He also practised the same in his life and led a pious life.No poet and writer have made such sincere prayer for mankind, he said and urged the government to take exemplary action against the two writers.

ASI agrees to keep relics of Buddha
LALITGIRI (VISAKEO): Succumbing to the pressure of local activists, the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) has decided to keep the holy relic of Lord Buddha at the famous Buddhist site in Lalitagiri from where it was unearthed in 1985.The relic would be kept shortly after the construction of a site museum at the Lalitgiri Buddhist site was completed, ASI superintendent of Bhubaneswar circle Ashok Kumar Patel said. The local activists had sought intervention of several persons to take adequate steps to display the holy relics of Buddha at Lalitagiri The Lalitagiri hillock in Orissa's Jajpur district is famous for the discovery of several Buddha idols, a Stupa and three Buddhist monasteries where the Buddhist monks used to stay and worship. Sources said seven consecutive sessions of archeological spadework brought to light a huge Stupa on a hilltop at Lalitgiri and the golden casket containing tiny bones, presumed to be the relics of Lord Buddha and his favourite disciple. The relic was kept like a Chinese puzzle box in four independent caskets one inside the other, forming a unique unity. Those caskets are of Khandolite, stupa shaped, pale grey soap stone, with silver and gold enclosed. After the excavation of the relic, the ASI officials and the state government decided to keep it in the state capital for its safety. The archaeological treasures of Lalitagiri were first brought to notice in 1869 by Chandrasekhar Banarjee leading to subsequent documentation of the site by P.P. Chanda in 1927-28. Considering its archaeological importance, the ancient vestiges were declared centrally protected in 1937. Later in 1985 ASI started excavation and unearthed a massive stupa on hill top.

Lakhs of devotes takes holy dip at Orissa’s Chandrabhaga

KONARAK/BHUBANESWAR( VISAKEO): Lakhs of devotes from across the country on Friday took a holy dip at Orissa’s Chandrabhaga Beach close to Konark Sun Temple on the occasion of Magha Saptami on January 22.Despite unprecedented cold wave, devotes took the holy dip and offered players at Sun Temple, popularly knows as Black Pagoda of India. People in other parts of the State also took holy dips at several rive banks and offered prayers to Sun God.Mythologies say that Lord Krishna's son Samba got rid of his diseases by worshiping the sun god. So worshipping sun god on his birthday on the seventh day of Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) in Magha month is considered auspicious. People come to Chandrabhaga on this day to have darshan (glimpse) of the early sun. Elaborate arrangements were made by the district administration along the Chandrabhaga coast. More than 200 policemen were deployed.
"We have set up tents along the Chandrabhaga coast. Barricades have been erected so that the devotees can go in a queue and take the dip. Keeping in view the large number of people, we have deployed policemen to manage the traffic," said Fakir Satpathy, collector of Puri district. The average minimum temperature in Puri district Friday was 16.2 degrees Celsius, four notches below average for this time of the year.

Wife brings trouble for most wanted red rebel Sabyasachi

BHUBANESWAR (VISAKEO): If he surrenders or any mainstream political party show interest to rehabilitate him. That would be a different story but if not, Sabyasachi Panda, State secretary, outlawed CPI (Maoists), Orissa State Committee, would be in trouble with cops making roots to his whereabouts. With judicial remand of Sabyasachi’s wife, Mili Panda alias Saswati Das, extended till January 25, cops of five States including Orissa, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh, besides, officials from Central Intelligence bureau, would try their best to reach out to the game plan of the Central Committee as well as Central Military Commission of the outlawed outfit.
With reports that, she has a very good relation with top Maoists leaders including Ganapati, who heads the outfit in the country, Kishenji and Sumitda for whom, cops of West Bengal and Jharkhand chasing since a long time.
If Mili reveals her husband’s whereabouts, then police would try it in south-western ranges of the State. The lore around 43-year-old Sabyasachi has grown not just because of his reputation of being the most violent brain in the Maoists world, but also because he comes from a family of freedom fighters.Hailing from Mayurjhalia village, Panda's father Ramesh Chandra is a three-time CPI (M) MLA from Ranpur in Nayagarh district.
His elder brother Siddharth, a Biju Janata Dal member while Sabyasachi joined the Naxalite movement in 1991 and it was he who revived it in 1996 and gave the call for a full-scale armed struggle against the establishment. He formed the Kui Labanga Sangha (Kui Youth Association), which later became a front organisation for the Andhra Pradesh-based People's War Group (PWG).He next formed the Peoples Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA). Intelligence sources say, Panda went for the Nayagarh attack for two reasons: He is alleged to have links with several white-collar people in Berhampur, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

Posco appeasement raises eyebrows
JAGATSINGHPUR(VISAKEO): By deciding to go for an public opinion over the controversial country’s laregest FDI in State’s Jagatsinghpur district, the Naveen Patnaik led Government on Saturday went further ahead in appeasing South Korean steel maker Posco.

A meeting chaired by CM’s principal secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik here, decided that the Government would sought a public opinion over this issue. DGP Manmohan Praharaj, IGP (Central range) Santosh Upadhya and several others were present and decided to go for a public opinion. The move of the Government came few days after the anti-Posco agitators taken hostage of four company officials in Jagatsinghpur district. The company's proposed USD 12 billion project, has been under scanner with Posco Pratirodha Sangram Samiti led by CPI leader Abhaya Sahu upping in arms against the steel maker.Posco, one of the world's biggest steel makers, signed a deal with the state government in June 2005 to set up the plant near the port town of Paradip in the coastal Jagatsinghpur district, some 100 km from here, by 2016. The steel maker requires about 4,004 acres of land for the project of which 2,900 acres are forest land. The project has been facing delay since past over two years due to various reasons including due to local protest. There has been little progress on the ground as the villagers launched large-scale agitation against the project, the largest foreign direct investment in India, saying it will displace over 20,000 people from around 15 villages and ruin their betel-leaf farming.
However, the supporters of the project say the plant will bring prosperity and employment. According to Posco, the project would affect only 500 families but would create thousands of jobs.

Govt ignore Dalai due to pressure from Maoists, alleges BJP
BHUBANESWAR (VISAKEO): The Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged that the Orissa Government coming under pressure from the outlawed CPI (Maoists) has studiedly ignored a State honour to Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama.BJP Orissa unit president and former Union Minister Jual Oram alleged that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik did not want to irk the leftwing ultras who are opposed to the Noble laureate for political reasons. The Chief Minister preferred to stay away from the spiritual leader just to appease the Maoists, he said.We strongly feel that the treatment given by Orissa Government to Dalai Lama is contrary to the foreign policy of the country, which has been supporting the political struggle of the Tibetan people.Earlier, Congress too had blamed Chief Minister for ignoring Dalai Lama during his visit to State. The BJP chief however asked Naveen Patnaik to sought a public apology for misconduct. The BJP president has been alleging that the BJD Government has a secret understanding with the ultras as CPI (Maoists) State unit chief Sabyasachi Panda is close to several ruling party leaders.

Chaos in Central but assault in Southwest (Editorial section)

Thanks to Bhaskar, secretary of Andhra-Orissa Border Special Zonal Committee and Sabyasachi Panda alias Sunil, who heads the CPI (Maoist) in the State? Life indeed terrible for State Police chief Manmohan Praharaj, Director Intelligence Prakash Mishra, Inspector General of Police (Operations) Sanjiv Marik and Deputy Inspector General of Police, south-western Sanjiv Panda.

Few days’ back, DGP Praharaj while attending the annual meet of the senior high paid IPS officers at State Police Headquarters in Cuttack, had said, they would overpower the Bhaskar and Panda led Red Army. Flanked by the confidence of IPS officers, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who attended the closing function, also not hesitate to overjoyed about his Government’s success in curbing leftwing insurgency. There after, he rushed to Raipur, where Union Home Minister P Chidambarm chaired meet and attended also by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh and Maharashtra Deputy CM RR Patil. So, after three to four days of fake morale boasting sessions, they again failed the Red Theory, which reads “ Create chaos in Central and assault in southwest” or “Surface in urban areas and attack in Rural” This was the theory of Maoists in recent times. They were not scared or disappointed after the Special Operation Group with the help of Capital Police arrested Saswati Panda alias Mili Panda, wife of Sabyasachi.
So, they killed four persons and injured 10 Jawans of the elite SOG of State Police in Koraput district by triggering landmine blasts. The incident, which sent a shock wave in entire southwestern parts of the State, came a day after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik joined hands with Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra to step up anti-Maoists operation jointly.
The Home Ministry had also agreed to provide additional eight companies of CRPF and two choppers for operations during the meet. Earlier, 13 people were killed in three different landmine blasts in 2008 and 2009. While two people were killed in 2008, as many as 11 people were killed in two separate landmine blasts in the same area last year.
The rebels have also called a two-day long bandh from January 25 protesting arrest of Saswati Das alias Mili.It is high time for the Chief Minister to relinquish Home portfolio and deploy a another person to handle the Department as he not fail to achieve what his counterparts in Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh achieved but also failed to live to expectations of the State people, who voted him to power for third time. The Red terror has spread its wings to 22 out of 30 districts in Orissa throwing a serious challenge to the state authority. When Naveen led BJD Government banned CPI (Maoists) and few of its frontal wing including Daman Pratirodh Manch, the Revolutionary Democratic Front, the Chasi Mulia Samiti, the Kui Lawanga Sangh, the Jana Natya Mandali, the Krantikari Kisan Samiti and the Bal Sangam on June 9, 2006, the annoyance of Leftwing insurgency was very negligible. But after 2006, the Red Ultras have expanded their network in at least 22 districts out of 30. The situation is almost alike an all-out war where both the State and the extra-constitutional forces seem to be interlocked in a deadly fight.

Butterfly garden coming up in Kandhamal

PHULABANI (VISAKEO): Orissa Government would soon Open a Butterfly Garden in Kandhamal. Butterflies like sun-loving flowers that produce lots of pollen and nectar (a sugary liquid). Accordingly butterfly-friendly bright coloured plants like red, yellow and purple colour are being planted, said Krishan Kumar Collector Kandhamal. Once the plants start blooming, one shouldn't have a long wait till the butterflies come, said he. The Mega Forest Nursery, which has come up in a big way at Mulagudari on the outskirts of Phulbani town will house the Butterfly Garden said Dr.Kumar. A 25-acre sprawling green space is being developed by the District authorities with the active support of the Chief Minister. Ananga Udaya Singh Deo, Minister Planning and Coordination visited the Mega Nursery on January 25 and was delighted with the developments taken place. Soon it will turn out to be an Eco-Tourism Centre, said Mr.Singh Deo. Mr. Singh Deo along with the Chairperson Zilla Parishad visited the nursery and talked to the gardeners and workers.NREGS supported schemes are being roped in to make this grand nursery which will produce all the forest species, said DFO Kandhamal. Annually 7 lakh saplings will be produced from the nursery, which is providing regular job opportunities to at least 30 women, said he. This scale will soon rise and it will turn up to be major source of saplings on forest species, said DFO.

Naveen unhappy with Pyari
BHUBANESWAR (VISAKEO): Naveen Patnaik project himself always is a protocol oriented personality. Big Boss of BJD has always maintained decorum both in State Administration and handling the party affairs. Now-a-days he finds some people are crossing their limits and trying to project them as “alternative source of power”. Media reports in various language news papers are agog over the issue. Major dailies are reporting that BJD Supremo came to know that Pyari Mohan Mohapatra, his Principal Advisor and Think Tank is asking the District Presidents of his outfit to organize workers’ conferences without his clearance. Rohit Pujari, a protégé of Mr.Mohapatra and District President of Sambalpur has organized a huge workers conference at Sambalpur on 11 February without the knowledge of the Big Boss of BJD. Mr.Mohapatra will be the Chief Guest of the meeting while senior Ministers will be mere speakers. Prasanna Acharya, Minister Health and Family Welfare brought the matter to the notice of the Big Boss.Similar meeting was proposed at Balangir, which has been shut down by the Big Boss. Anaga Udaya Singh Deo, Minister Planning & Co-ordination, known a staunch supporter of BJD Supremo is in no mood to tolerate any sort of “Second Power Centre”. Irked over such initiative, BJD Supremo has aksed all the District Presidents of the regional out fit not repeat not to organize any sort of meetings or worker conference without his order. However due to paucity of time, Mr.Patnaik allowed the Sambalpur Meet with a caution to Pujari. Mr.Mohapatra has been totally sidelined in the State Government by the top mandarins, feel his protégé, a Minister in Naveen Patnaik Council of Ministers. “Our Annadata has been cold shouldered by the Book type Bureaucrats, which will not be tolerated”, warned he. Few Ministers are making hush hush campaign in the State Secretariat against the “arrogant mandarins” and trying to gain support of their colleagues. Recently a senior Minister approached his colleagues and tried to impress them against the bureaucracy, which according to him has high jacked the Chief Minister. However he was bluntly cowed down by another senior Minister, who is close to the Chief Minister, said sources. Recently in the State BJD Meeting Mr.Mohapatra spewed venom against “arrogant and way ward bureaucrats” and asked Chief Minister to tame them.

Netaji was Tata workers' union chief for nine years
BHUBANESWAR(VISAKEO):People are aware of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose' heroic deeds, but few know that he was the president of the Tata Labour Association, Jamshedpur, rechristened later as Tata Steel Workers Union, for nine long years.

This little known fact can be learnt from a letter Netaji had written to the then managing director of Tata, N B Sakalatbala, way back on November 12, 1928.The 'confidential' letter, written by Netaji who was the president of the union from 1928 to 1937, throws light on his deep concern for Indian workers in industries at a time when Britishers were occupying key positions in all sectors. On the occasion of Netaji's 114th birth anniversary yesterday, a litho copy of the original letter was handed over to Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at a function held in Cuttack, birth place of the freedom fighter. As the company was largely dominated by Britishers at that time, Netaji was made the association's president on the advice of national leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi, to speed up the process of 'Indianisation', according to Tata sources."I feel sincerely that the future of this industry - including peace in the labour world - depends largely on Indianisation," he said in the letter.

Church tries to divert attention

Church tries to divert attention
BHUBANESWAR( VISAKEO): In an attempt to divert attention from real issues, the Roman Catholic Church on Saturday took to some bizarre issues to cover up its misdeeds in Orissa’s Kandhamal district.Anyone knows, integrity of Krishna Kumar, Kandhamal District Collector and S Praveen Kumar, the police chief in bring peace and harmony in a communal hit district in an impressive time. But see the statements of Archbishop of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar, Rapheal Cheenath and senior Church leader John Dayal, who is single handedly making false campaign against the State. The two Church leaders at a hurriedly called press meet, that came few hours after tribal Kandhs along with BJP leaders alleged their lands have been grabbed by the minority for construction of a Training Centre, however rolled down crocodile tears to divert the issue. “We would approach the High Court and Supreme Court if misery of the people of Kandhamal was not ameliorated,” they said indirectly diverting attention from land grab allegation. In fact, sources said that Church has encroached a huge amount of land owned by late Salada Pradhan, Balada Pradhan, son of late Masura Pradhan and Bakika Pradhan son of Bila Pradhan, caste Kandhamal(ST), to construct a Centre. In this regard, original landowner apprised the matter to the visiting European Union delegation. They met the delegation and stated that their land Khata No-214 Plot-1321 of Mouza Kanjamendi, has been encroached for construction of a Training Centre of Roman Catholic church.
In many cases our tribal land has been grabbed by the middle man for construction of Churches, Pastoral Training Centres, Prayer Houses and all our constitutional rights are also being snatched away by the mischievous people by obtaining fake certificates for getting jobs and illegal land transaction, the Kandh tribal told the delegation. If Church is not satisfied with the Collector and SP, how can they expect good from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who still bestowed faith on these two young elite IAS and IPS officers?
“As far as we concerned, we never allowed things that are being done against the law of the land,” the Collector and SP told this Correspondent over phone.
Church leader expressed concern over the high rate of acquittals in the Fast Track Courts. He alleged that victims filed 3232 complaints and Police only entertained 832 cases and conviction rate is very low. Archbishop has demanded independent lawyers be associated with Special Public Prosecutors.

Bajarang Dal, VHP opposes ''My name is Khan''

BHUBANESWAR (VISAKEO): Bajarang Dal and Viswa Hindu Parishad have opposed the screening of controversial Bollowood movie My Name is Khan starred by Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol of Karan Johar.“The opposition came following Bollywood Badshah’s act in the movie, which depicts the actor himself as Pakistani agent, who believes in a bifurcation of Akhand Bharat,” Bajarang Dal national co-convener Subash Chouhan said.
“We protest in a democratic manner on February 12, the day, the movie screened,” he said. It may be noted here that the King Khan was embroiled in a controversy after he favoured the participation of the Pakistani cricket players in Indian Premier League.
“We have appealed our workers to boycott the movie,” VHP State general secretary GP Rath said. Rath said that noted actor of Indian film industry earned the fame and money in India but supports Pakistan.

Church encroached our lands, tribals tell
BHUBANESWAR( VISAKEO): Tribal Kandhs of in Orissa’s Kandhamal, and the BJP on Saturday alleged that the visit of 11-member European delegation has flared up communal feeling in the district, which witnessed wide spread violence following the murder of Hindu seer Swami Laxmananda Saraswati on August 23, 2008.Talking at a press conference here on February 6, BJP MLA from Baliguda in Kandhamal and general secretary RSS backed BKA Laxmikanta Das alleged that the visit of the EU delegation to the riot hit areas was aimed at promoting conversion and communalism in the area. The opposition assumes significance as EU Team announced to funding €15 million for development in various sectors. They said the delegation, during its two-day visit to the area, met only one section of the community and held secret meeting inside the Catholic Church with select NGOs and church leaders. The members did not bother to meet local public representatives or Kandh leaders. The leaders further alleged that the EU delegation had tried to interfere with and influence the affairs of the state by holding discussion with the Director General of Police and government officials on the well being of a particular community in Kandhmal.Majhi said the State Government must clarify about the visit of the team and holding talks with only Christians and the Church leaders.
Das indicated that it was not a cultural and social visit but communal and aimed at creating an extra territorial loyalty which would set a dangerous trend in the area disturbing the peace and harmony.Das also demanded a probe into the activities of the NGOs operating in Kandhmal in close liaison with the church leaders by accepting huge foreign fund.He alleged that several churches had come up on tribal land and demanded that such land grabbed by middlemen for construction of churches, pastoral training centre and prayer houses must be returned to the tribals forthwith.BJP Lawmaker said when entire state is agog with EU Team visit, State Government is maintaining eerie silence over the matter. He asked the Chief Minister to come clean over the matter and make an announcement in this regard. Baliguda MLA charged Church leaders of illegal occupation of the land of tribal in Kandhamal. Pointing out a case he said Dibyajyoti Pastoral Training Centre at K Nuagaon has illegally occupied land of tribals. No action is being taken up by the State Government, he said. The delegation, comprising diplomats of nine countries, had arrived here on February 2 on a five day visit to the state to assess the situation prevailing in Kandhmal.
Power cut in Orissa: Luxury of urban is the necessity of rural! ( Editorial section)
BHUBANESWAR (VISAKEO): Considering the decreasing power generation, the state Government is forced to impose the scheduled load shedding, even in state capital to cope with the shortage of power. While routine power-cut is ceasing the luxury of urban life, this is creating hindrance to access to the elixir of life for rural people. Tube wells, once regarded as the only drinking water provider in rural Orissa have lost their importance and ‘Rural Pipe Water Supply’ schemes have picked up like anything, where availability of electricity is the major indicator of drinking water provisioning. Over the years tube wells fitted with hand pumps have proved to be the most appropriate technique to provide safe drinking water especially for the rural population because of its low cost, speedy execution, easy repair and less recurring cost factors. In recent past, in the name of community participation and demand driven project, somehow the concept of ‘Rural Piped Water Supply’ has been established to show handsome expenditure at the end of the financial years. To tide over the problem of water crisis, people dig chuans on river beds and wells in agricultural fields, which implies that there is sub surface water that can be harvested even if ground water is too deep to be extracted through bore wells. In hilly terrains, dug wells have been found to be much more effective than bore wells. The department is however obsessed with bore wells – presumably because they are easy to dig. There is a strong case for adopting an area-specific technology rather than resorting to a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach. The recently much focused pipe water supply that supposedly serves as a better option compared to the tube wells, is in fact soon turning into a burden on users. The overhead tanks are usually left unattended while installing pipe water supply, which in turn leads either to huge water loss through frequent breakages in pipeline for pressure from pump, or to scarcity during non-availability/failure of electricity. Furthermore, the otherwise functional tube wells now turn defunct due to lack of usage. Even intellectuals verdict is that the ‘Rural Pipe Water Supply’ is the first step towards privatization in drinking water as private players will take-up the system, when community fails to maintain. While executing the projects, certain issues like routine power cut and non availability of overhead tank were not taken into account, which is causing early death to those schemes and leaving villages after villages inside the water scarcity zones. As pipe water supply projects are useless without electricity and it is the rural people who bear more darkness in case of routine power-cut, it can be easily understood that what will be the implication of routine power cut on rural life. Government has ordered for no power regulation for vital establishments in urban areas, which includes water supply units. But in case of rural, the water supply organizations will only be informed about power cut in advance for timely operation of pump houses. Everybody knows how first the information moves to rural places and what will be the situation. Furthermore, this is all about scheduled load shedding. But what is about unscheduled load shedding, which is a regular one in rural areas? Availability of water in the desired quantity and quality, at the right time and right place, has been the key to the survival of all living forms. It is high time the department adopted a holistic rather than a fire-fighting approach to address the problem of drinking water. Instead of pipe water supplies as the only seeming solution to the drinking water crisis, the technology needs to be flexible, innovative and location-specific. The tendency of ease of operation in providing for a single, uniform solution to all sorts of problems needs to be sensibly replaced with a more action-oriented effort on the part of the Departments.

VHP opposes European delegation
BHUBANESWAR: The Viswa Hindu Parishad activists on February 2 opposed the 10-member European delegation, which arrived at city airport.VHP alleged that the visit could further aggravate the situation in Kandhamal district. The European Union has been pumping huge foreign fund into these areas with a view to convert maximum number of poor people into Christianity from Hinduism, they said.

Police made elaborate security arrangements around the temple for the mega religious celebration in State Capital. Over 1,500 police personnel were deployed and vehicular movement was restricted in certain routes leading to the temple, Jena said.

Ravishankar asks Maoists to join talk’s process

Let's keep the society united and not allow to disintegrate".Stating that the Maoists may be fighting against oppression and exploitation of the poor in the society, Ravi Shankar asserted that they should do it in a peaceful manner as solution cannot be found through violent means."Violence is not the solution. Ramdev to create vote bank, field candidates in 2014 elections
BHUBANESWAR (VISAKEO):Talking to newsmen here, Ramdev said each district in the country will have at least ten lakh Bharat Swaviman members by the next three years to decide whom they want to send as their representative to the Lok Sabha. The yoga guru, however, to a question clarified that he would neither hold any political post nor contest the Lok Sabha or Assembly elections. The yoga centre to be establish in each and every village,he said would concentrate on health, nutritional and political education to build a better society free from hunger, poverty and corruption.Ramdev said the country is riddled with corruption and once it is wiped out it would usher into a new development era and emerge as a major power in the world. He said Rs.16 lakh crore stashed away in the Swiss Bank from India should be brought back to be used in the developmental activities and demanded a ban on the circulation of big denomination currency note to check the black money accounting to the tune of Rs 50 lakh crore. The Yoga guru said although Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has stated that he would bring back the black money from the Swiss Bank but no initiative has been taken during the last one year in this regard.Such a delay indicated that political leaders and top officials are involved in the racket, he said adding '' We are interested in Foreign Direct Investment(FDI) in the country but reluctant to bring back the black money deposited in the Swiss Bank'' To a question, Ramdev said any operation against the Naxalites will not solve the problem or wipe out Naxalism in the country. The naxal problem, he said, had spread to 250 districts across the country which are mostly poverty ridden and under developed in health and education. He said once these districts were developed in all aspects, the Naxal problem would be automatically resolved. The Yoga Guru agreed to hold talks with the left wing ultras if asked to do so by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to reslove the Naxal problems in the country.'' You can not kill naxalism by using force, the Yoga Guru said adding if the government was so sincere to resolve the problem it should go to the root of the Naxalism and check corruption which was the biggest threat for undertaking any developmental work.Ramdev also suggested that the government should formulate new law to establish special Fast Track court to award capital punishment to those involved in corruption, terrorism, rape, murder and anti national activities.

Muslim vote at any cost

Muslim vote at any cost

A Surya Prakash

The Congress is now going all out to garner Muslim support. Though this process accelerated after the Lok Sabha election in 2004 — remember the Prime Minister’s outrageous and unconstitutional assertion that the Muslims have the first right on the nation’s resources and the appointment of the Sachar Committee? — the party is now giving fresh impetus to the cultivation of this minority vote-bank.

Three events in the recent past that are indicative of this trend are the party’s reluctance to defend former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao’s decision not to bring Uttar Pradesh under central rule prior to December 6, 1992; the deliberate omission of Rao’s name by Congress president Sonia Gandhi in her speech to mark the 125th anniversary of the party; and the despicable attempt by Mr Digvijay Singh, a general secretary of the party, to raise doubts about the Batla House encounter in 2008, in which Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma lost of life.

Obviously, the party is now so obsessed with the pursuit of this vote-bank that it is more than ready to debunk constitutional norms, truth and even national security. Taking the last event first, it is truly amazing how far politicians can go to harvest votes. The encounter took place when the Delhi Police acted on information that terrorists involved in the September 13, 2008, serial blasts in Delhi were holed up in an apartment in the Jamia Nagar area of the national capital. Two members of the Indian Mujahideen were killed in the encounter in which Inspector Sharma lost his life. A couple of suspects escaped. Ever since that encounter, leaders of the Congress have been promoting the theory that this was a ‘fake’ encounter. How a senior police officer can lose his life in a ‘fake’ encounter is another matter!

The Congress, however, has persistently encouraged such talk despite the fact that the National Human Rights Commission cleared the police action and Delhi’s Congress Government had itself decorated Inspector Sharma posthumously for gallantry. Ironically, even as Mr Digvijay Singh was on his cynical vote-bank yatra to Azamgarh, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror squad nabbed an IM terrorist. He has given his interrogators a detailed account of the encounter and told them that he and his associate fired on Inspector Sharma before escaping from Batla House that day. Given these facts, Mr Singh’s attempt to lend credence to the theory that the Balta House encounter was ‘fake’ borders on criminal misrepresentation of facts. If he carries on in this vein, he could well jeopardise national security and the safety of 1.1 billion citizens.

As regards the Congress’s attitude vis-à-vis the decisions of the Narasimha Rao Government in December, 1992, clearly there is an attempt to demonise him and to hold him responsible for the demolition of the structure that was known as the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. The structure was demolished by kar sevaks mobilised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other Hindu organisations. Narasimha Rao was the Prime Minister and the Government in Uttar Pradesh was headed by Mr Kalyan Singh of the BJP.

Following the demolition of this structure, both the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party systematically targeted Rao and made him out to be the chief villain vis-à-vis the events of December 6, 1992. Even though the BJP was in power in the State and this Government had failed to live up to the solemn assurances given to the Union Government and the Supreme Court, these two parties held Rao and the Congress primarily responsible for the demolition. The Muslims fell for this argument and moved away from the Congress. The loss of Muslim support for the party was obvious in the Lok Sabha election held in 1996 and in subsequent elections to Parliament and the State legislature. Anxious to win back the Muslims, the Congress chose to tarnish the image of Rao when Parliament debated the Liberhan Commission report. Like its chief opponents in Uttar Pradesh, it took the position that the Government of the day had failed to intervene in time to prevent the demolition of the disputed structure. This line obviously suits the vote-bank politics pursued by the party, but it is far removed from the scheme envisaged by the Constitution and contrary to the opinion of the Sarkaria Commission on Centre-State relations and the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Bommai Case, which upheld Sarkaria’s views.

Rao told the Liberhan Commission that as the Governor of the State did not send any report about an imminent constitutional breakdown, the President could not act on mere hearsay or in a vacuum. Further, the “categorical assurance” of the State Government to the Union Government and the Supreme Court that it would protect the structure “weighed with my Government”. If he had dismissed the State Government on the ground that he did not have faith in the assurances given, the court could well have found fault with the action and declared it ‘unjustified’. The Sarkaria Commission, in fact, had said that Article 356 should be used to take remedial action in order to restore the constitutional machinery.

Since words such as ‘remedial’ and ‘restore’ were used, it clearly showed that this Article could not be used preventively or as a pre-emptive move.

The reasons given by Rao for not resorting to a pre-emptive strike against the Kalyan Singh Government is completely in line with the opinion of the Sarkaria Commission and the verdict of the Supreme Court in the Bommai Case. The court has said that it had the power to see whether the proclamation was based on any material and whether that material was relevant. Therefore, mere rumours, prejudices or heresay were not enough for such a drastic step in democracy. “Governments could not run on subjective mistrust of each other”, Rao had said.

However, since the Nehru-Gandhis have recklessly used Article 356 to settle political scores and to bring down non-Congress Governments, they are unaccustomed to such constitutional correctness. This is yet another reason why Rao is painted as the villain. Citizens who believe that the Government must work within Constitutional parameters will see merit in Rao’s arguments. Those who do no, like those who justify the fascist Emergency regime of 1975-77, will not.

Government should take necessary action against the communal European Delegates

PRESS RELEASE

Government should take necessary action against the communal European Delegates

The indifferent attitude of the Government raise questions in every ones mind as there is hearsay all around the states about the visit of European delegates to kandhamal. The Kandha society demands the Government should clarify its stand on European delegates’ visit through a press conference.

If the Government has invited the delegates then their scheduled programme should be controlled if not they should not be deceived as State government guests. The Government sacrificed our sovereignty by inviting foreign citizens to inspect our internal matter. It is highly condemnable and matter of regret. Thanks to the advocates of Kandhmal that they cancelled the agenda of the foreign delegates to meet our judges. According to the kandha leader and M.L.A.(Baligguda) Kaenddra Majhi all of their effort to meet our judges and convincing to order rigorous punishment to the poor tribal became in vain. Government should take appropriate steps by investigating it. Catholic Church in kandhmal constructed many institutions by encroaching lands of tribal illegally. For instance Dibya jyoti pastoral training centre was constructed on the lands of Salada pradhan, Balada pradhan c/o Masura pradhan, Bakika pradhan c/o Bila pradhan caste Kandha, Khata no 214, plot no 1421,of Mauza Kanjamendi.Government has not taken any steps in spite of strong protest from tribal. Tribal protested the visit of European delegates to Dibya jyoti pastoral training center on 04.02.10. They demanded return of their paternal lands.

Government should refrain those who defamed our state in international level. Government should give Identity cards as Christian to those who are staying in the camps in the name of Christianity and it will end all the gossips on Christians and the cases of fake caste certificates will be solved . The Kandha society hereby demanding that those who are getting privileges in the name of minority should become Minority through affidavits.

Further Kandha society believes the European delegates as purely communal as they have planned their agenda for the sake of minorities only. They have visited the prayer places of minorities , churches , pastoral training center and the minority villages. They have not visited swamiji’s murder place,Jaleshpeta kanyashram and kandha leaders. They met Arch Bishop at cuttack not any hindu leader even if they didn’t visit Shankaracharya at puri. It reflects their communal character. Now there is feeling in the public that this is purely a missionary sponsored delegation team. Government should keep a close eye on the grant in aid of 15 million Euro as declared by the delegation team that amount should not be expensed for conversion.

We the Kandhas born free in the jungle and we have every right to live our own life. Any interference will harm the peace in our land. If the conspiracy continues then it will be difficult on the part of the Government to restore peace and harmony. We request the Government to take necessary steps for peaceful and harmonious life of us.

Kandh leaders flay visit of EU delegation to Kandhmal

Kandh leaders flay visit of EU delegation to Kandhmal
By Golak Chandra Das

BHUBANESWAR: Kandh tribal leaders on Saturday said the European delegation and the Orissa government would be held responsible if fresh violence erupts in strife-torn Kandhmal.

Addressing a news conference here, tribal leader and BJP MLA Karendra Majhi and Banabasi Kalyan Ashram General Secretary Laxmikant Das alleged that the visit of the EU delegation to Kandhmal was aimed at promoting conversion and communalism in the area.

They said the delegation, during its two day visit to the area, met only one section of the community and held secret meeting inside the Catholic Church with select NGOs and church leaders. The members did not bother to meet local public representatives or Kandh leaders.

The leaders further alleged that the EU delegation had tried to interfere with and influence the affairs of the state by holding discussion with the Director General of Police and government officials on the well being of a particular community in Kandhmal.

Mr Majhi said the Kandh samaj condemned the visit of the delegation and the decision of the BJD-led Naveen Patnaik government to approve the visit. The state government,he said, must clarify about the visit of the team and holding talks with only Christians and the Church leaders.

Laxmikant Das indicated that it was not a cultural and social visit but communal and aimed at creating an extra territorial loyalty which would set a dangerous trend in the area disturbing the peace and harmony.

Mr Das also demanded a probe into the activities of the NGOs operating in Kandhmal in close liaison with the church leaders by accepting huge foreign fund.

He alleged that several churches had come up on tribal land and demanded that such land grabbed by middlemen for construction of churches, pastoral training centre and prayer houses must be returned to the tribals forthwith.

An eleven member EU delegation, comprising diplomats of nine countries, had arrived here on February 2 on a five day visit to the state to assess the situation prevailing in Kandhmal which witnessed largescale communal violence, loot and arson following the assassination of senior VHP leader Swami Laxmananda Saraswati and four of his disciples on June 23 at Jalaspeta Ashram in Kandhmal district.

With EU Team announced recently during their visit to Odisha about the funding €15 million for development in various sectors in Odisha, BJP leaders are quite worried about the future of the riot hit zone.

Majhi said with the EU Team could have met Sankarachrya and other Hindu leaders.

He apprehended that if the foreign funding will land up with the Church leaders, than peace in Kandhamal will be shattered. Majhi said Kandhs are born free and they should not be allowed bond by communal forces.

BJP Lawmaker said when entire state is agog with EU Team visit, State Government is maintaining eerie silence over the matter.

No action is being taken up by the State Government, lamented majhi

Dr HR Nagendra said after conducting awareness all over the country it is the time to start constructive activities at the village level for cow protection.

Shri Kesari Chand Mehta demanded the government to restore gochar land that has been snatched by the government and land mafia all over the country

Chennai Pada Sanchalan (Route March) - Update

Swayamsevaks of Chennai defy an unjust ban and court arrest

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's Route March scheduled on the Republic Day (26-1-2010) had to be postponed to 31-1-2010 since the police department requested the organization to have it on some other day other than 26thJanuary.

Citizens of Chennai had to miss the anticipated Route Marches of RSS on 31-1-2010 because of the unjust ban on procession after having permitted it.

Pada Sanchalan in Chennai took place on 31-1-2010 with 1090 swayamsevaks participating. Police denied permission to conduct pada sanchalan. Our Swayamsevaks participated in large numbers in poorna ganavesh (Sangh Uniform)

In North Chennai out of 570 swayamsevaks, 419 got arrested. Sanchalan took place in 6 places. Sri R K Nathan of Nathan Driving School (also Honorary Chief of South Indian Driving School) presided over the programme. Sri Viswanathan, Vidya Bharathi addressed the gathering. Sri R K Nathan voluntarily got arrested on seeing the enthusiasm among the swayamsevaks. Mahilas filled the scheduled road for Route March with colourful Rangolis.

In Madhya Chennai, around 300 poorna ganavesh swayamsevaks participated in the pada sanchalan. 119 got arrested. Sri Sthanumaalayan, Prantha Pracharak of RSS Uttar Tamilnadu, addressed the gathering. Sri Misa Ganesan (of Emergency fame), a staunch Dravidian leader and Ex-MP of DMK presided over the Pada Sanchalan function of Madhya Chennai. In his speech he said that though he belongs to a different ideology, he has agreed to preside over the function because he was an admirer of the discipline of RSS. Such discipline is all the more necessary for the present day youngsters who are prone to fall astray very easily. He was impressed by the solo song which highlighted the unity of the Hindus and to shed the caste differences.

In South Chennai, out of 305 poorna ganavesh swayamsevaks, 95 got arrested. Sri Rama Gopalan Ji, President Hindu Munnani addressed the swayamsevaks. Sri D S Raghavan, former President of Indian Bank appreciated the discipline that is being followed by the RSS. Local people came to know more about RSS and they also took part in all places.

A case of Child – Running by Missionaries in Kanyakumari, Tamilnadu

A total of seventy-six boys from Assam and Manipur were rescued from the Bedesta Blessing Home, an unregistered children's home, in Kanyakumari district on January 24. The Home, run by the Roman Catholic missionaries, lacked both adequate infrastructure and enough food to feed the children, officials said. The rescued children are part of 150 children brought to Chennai by a missionary a few years back, but were given away to different homes - one in Bangalore and the other in Kanyakumari - due to inadequate funds to run the home, officials said. Meanwhile, 70 girls from the Bedesta Blessing Home were reported missing the same day that the raid was conducted. The police as well as the Social Defence departments are now in probing activities of the child-running gang.

VHP condemns arrest, terms undemocratic

VHP condemns arrest, terms undemocratic

BHUBANESWAR:(visakeo) The Viswa Hindu Parishad on Tuesday night condemned arrest of its workers here at Biju Patnaik Air Port.

“Our members democratically protested over the arrival of European delegation but the police forcible arrested them,” VHP State general secretary Gouri Prasad Rath said.

The arrest was intended to appease minorities and surrender to foreign forces, Rath said.

“The arrest was undemocratic and unwarranted,” said Rath.“The visit was intended to further aggravate the situations in Kandhamal and we opposed it democratically,” he said.

“The sovereignty of our Country has been badly affected after the Union and State Government allowed a foreign delegation to intervene into our internal affairs,” the VHP leader said.
