Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Indresh Kumar was questioned by the CBI on Thursday in connection with the 2007 Mecca Masjid blast in Hyderbad that killed nine people. After arriving at the CBI office in the afternoon, Kumar told reporters that he had full faith in the country's related stories
Chargesheet filed, reveals more plots

The CBI summoned Kumar after his name figured in the case registered by the CBI though he is not named an accused.

In 2007, a bomb blast inside Mecca Masjid claimed nine lives. Five more people died in police firing following the blast.

Indresh Kumar (62), who was based in Rajasthan from 2001 to 2004, has also been involved with the work of the Rashtriya Muslim Manch, an RSS affiliate that calls itself a “nationalist organisation” of Muslims.

"It's a political conspiracy by the Congress party. I am not aware why they have called me. As a law abiding citizen I have come here to answer whatever question they have," said Indresh Kumar before going for questioning.

Indresh added, "I request my friends and colleagues to protest against my questioning peacefully. I am innocent. I have full faith in the judiciary and the people of my country."

In its 806-page chargesheet filed in the court of the additional chief judicial magistrate in Ajmer on Friday, the ATS
had said that Swami Aseemanand and Sunil Joshi, who was murdered in 2007, were the brains behind the Ajmer blast.

Aseemanand and Joshi allegedly held a secret meeting in Jaipur on October 31, 2005 with five others, including Indresh and Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, an accused in the Malegaon blast case.

At the meeting, Indresh suggested they work in tandem with other religious organisations so that no one would suspect anything and they could successfully carry out the attacks, the chargesheet says.

Sh. Digvijay Singh,

(Ex-Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh)

General Secretary

All India Congress Committee,

24, Akbar Road

New Delhi 110001

LEGAL NOTICE

Upon instructions from, for and on behalf of my clients Sh. Indu Bhushan S/o Sh. Bhola Nath, R/o 9/18-A, Vijay Nagar, Double Story, Delhi and Sh. Ripu Daman Bhardwaj, S/o Sh. Anand Bhardwaj, R/o B-45, Retreat Apartment, 20 I.P. Extension, Patparganj, Delhi-110092, I am constrained to sent you this legal notice:

1. That my clients have read the statements of YOU NOTICEE which had appeared on 11.12.2010, 12.12.2010 and 13.12.2010 in various Indian Newspapers including Pioneer, Dainik Jagran, Hindu, Times of India, Hindustan Times, Punjab Kesri and other National Newspapers in which you have raked up the controversy over slain Mumbai ATS Chief Hemant Karkare’s death by suggesting the involvement of Hindu Extremists.

These statements have also been prominently noticed in nearly the entire visual media as well.

2. That on Saturday 11.12.2010, YOU NOTICEE had claimed that ATS Chief Hemant Karkare had called you up hours before the most unfortunate 26/11 terror strikes in Mumbai saying that he feared for his safety from Hindu Extremists. Your assertion and the timing of it shocked all right thinking people. That on Saturday itself, YOU NOTICEE effected by design made a u-turn in your statement saying that it was you who called up Hemant Karkare and not the other way round.

3. That according to the statements of YOU NOTICEE which got published in several Hindi and English Newspapers YOU NOTICEE had information that some people were questioning Late Sh. Hemant Karkare’s integrity and that he was little depressed about this.

4. That on December 12, 2010, Sunday, a shattered Smt. Kavita Karkare, ATS Chief Hemant Karkare’s widow by way of reaction to your irresponsible unpatriotic statements spoke to media persons and stated that your statements regarding involvement of Hindu Extremist Organizations in the killing of her husband Hemant Karkare was a big lie and she even advised you to stop playing vote bank politics.

5. That she further stated that “Hindu Organizations had nothing to do with my husband’s death. He died while battling Pakistani terrorists and in the process he sacrificed his life for the country. Singh’s statement is baseless. I don’t agree with his claims about my husband. He is making use of my late husband’s name for political reasons. He has not spoken even once to the families of the police officers Martyred in 26/11 attack”.

She further pleaded that “such statements will mislead people and benefit Pakistan. Mockery of my husband’s sacrifice for political gain should stop”.

She further said that “when my husband was investigating the Malegaon blast and was looking for Hindu Accused, there were reactions from Hindu Organizations. Similarly, when earlier he was looking for Muslim accused, there were reactions from that community and further said such reactions were natural”.

6. The widow of ATS Chief Hemant Karkare further charged YOU NOTICEE of playing vote-bank politics and she further denied any conversation had taken place between her husband and YOU NOTICEE as claimed by you. That according to the reports published in media, even the Mumbai Police has stated that the call records of Hemant Karkare prove otherwise.

7. That apart from the widow of the slain Mumbai ATS Chief Hemant Karkare, your irresponsible anti-patriotic statements invited strong reactions and opposition from the political parties including the BJP, the Shiv Sena and others as also various Hindu Organizations and well meaning national minded persons.

8. That your aforesaid baseless statements have given a serious blow to the country’s fight against terror and investigation into the 26/11 terrorist attack case. By your conduct and act, YOU NOTICEE has torpedoed the stand over the 26/11 terrorist attack. Those employing terror machine against our nation are overjoyed at your stand as YOU NOTICEE have given the terrorists and anti-national forces a formidable weapon to weaken our fight against terror. The stand of the Government and the series of dossiers sent by it to Pakistan and others have suffered staggering blow due to your unwholesome actions. It is indeed a painful situation that you chose to sacrifice prime national interest for petty vote bank politics.

The terrorists from across the border and their patrons are going to be encouraged in their sinister designs by statements given by YOU NOTICEE. Your conduct will give leverage to anti-Indian and terrorist elements like Taliban, Let and the ISI who have been repeatedly stating that they were being framed in 26/11 terrorist attack in Mumbai.

In a sense, YOU NOTICEE has acted as the spokesperson of these anti-India outfits by espousing their cause. Thus your statements have emboldened the terrorists and anti-India forces.

9. That it is not the first time that you have engaged in deliberate spread of hatred and poison against Hindus, Hindu Organizations as also Hindu Community at large with a view to generate a vote bank for your party with the minority community. In September 2008 you raised the issue of Saffron Terror and you had also written about it to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. In doing so you outraged the essence of Hinduism. Your actions generated deep anguish in the Hindu minds. That your statement had earned criticism from various quarters and a show-cause notice from the Election Commission of India was also issued to YOU NOTICEE.

Further use of the word Hindu Terror invited response from the spokesman of your own Congress Party, Sh. Janardhan Dwivedi clarifying that “terrorism does not have any color other than black”.

10. That your ill-designed, irresponsible remarks that are bereft of any basis whatsoever are actuated by malice against the Hindus and their religion. These are a deliberate attempt to defame, derogate, insult and lower the esteem and reputation of the Hindu Community in general and aimed at appeasing the Muslim Community in particular in order to get their vote and support in your Political career as well as elections.

11. That YOU NOTICEE has deliberately made a number of such unpatriotic, anti-Hindu statements in the past also:

i. YOU NOTICEE had termed the Batla House encounter as a fake encounter and questioned the credibility of the slain Martyr Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma and also went to meet the families of the terrorists in Azamgarh.

ii. YOU NOTICEE was at logger heads with the Home Minster Sh. P. Chidambaram on Counter-Maoist strategy and opposed the use of force against them and said Maoists could not be equated with terrorists.

iii. YOU NOTICEE accused Hindu Organizations of being involved in the Jhabua nuns’s rape case. A Jhabua court issued a warrant against YOU NOTICEE for your alleged remarks which was cancelled after you appeared in person in the court and furnished a surety bond of Rs.5000.

12. That YOU NOTICEE has indulged in vote-bank politics by deliberately denigrating the Hindu community. In the process, YOU NOTICEE even acted to the detriment of national security. That a number of political parties have questioned your silence for over two years before you disclosed about your alleged private conversation with Hemant Karkare just before the 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai in 2008. That it has also been questioned that you were neither Union Home Minister nor Union Home Secretary to whom Hemant Karkare could have expressed apprehension about fear to his life.

13. That it has been stated by some that you are frustrated at being marginalized in your own party and have been advised not to take revenge against the nation and against those who lost their lives in terror attacks and also against the country’s communal harmony.

That it has also been stated by some that the Ministers of the Congress led UPA government have been facing corruption charges from all directions and hence you are trying to divert the attention of the entire country by coming up with such frivolous and sensational allegations.

That however it seems that there is a tacit understanding and support to you from the ruling Congress Party which has not given any statement against your anti-national, unpatriotic and mischievous statements aimed at creating communal disharmony between various religions and classes of the society.

14. That by deliberately misstating and distorting the facts, YOU NOTICEE is extending assistance to anti-India terror machines in Pakistan. Your actions weaken India’s case against terrorism and are affront to all nationalistic forces in general and Hindus in particular.

15. That in the past a senior leader of the Congress Party, AR Antulay had also made out of anti-Hindu design such irresponsible statements which were condemned by various political parties and Hindu Organizations.

16. That there is a strong objection to the unfortunate and shameful manner in which you have been targeting and defaming Hindus as a community and coining and using words like Hindu Terror, Saffron Terror, Hindu Extremists, Hindu Terrorist Organization etc. That you have been engaged in this nefarious activity in a sustained manner in order to advance your vote-bank politics.

17. That Article 25 of the Constitution of India gives all persons right to freedom of religion including freedom of conscience and free profession, practice and propagation of religion which is subject to public order, morality and health.

The aforesaid freedom guaranteed to all persons does not include right to insult and repudiate other religions.

That Article 21 of the Constitution of India gives to all persons the most cherished Right to Life which is right to live with dignity and not just animal existence and hence includes right to reputation as has been reiterated in a catena of judgments by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. That this right to reputation has been most brazenly violated by YOU NOTICEE.

18. That by using the aforesaid defamatory, derogatory, insulting words and by making malicious, baseless statements against the Hindu community and nationalistic forces, YOU NOTICEE are deliberately creating a negative and wrong impression about the Hindu Religion which is one of the most ancient religion of the world.

That the Hindu religion is not only a religion but a way of life. The basic principles of Hinduism include Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family) and Ekam Sad Vipra Bahudha Vadyanti (All paths lead to the same God).

That by using the derogatory word “terror” as a suffix to this ancient religion practiced by millions of people throughout the world and especially in India, YOU NOTICEE are not only deliberately misrepresenting but also repudiating and defaming this great religion which is known for its tolerance, magnanimity and peaceful coexistence with other religions of the world including Islam, Christianity, etc. That Hinduism believes that all paths lead to one God and hence ensures equal treatment even to those who follow different paths of worship.

That Hinduism does not preach, violence and hatred against non-Hindus.

That by linking the word Hindu with terrorism, you are branding every person who professes and propagates Hindu religion as an agent and exporter of terror, thereby defaming and derogating an entire community.

19. That if certain fringe elements who happen to be Hindus resorts to violent and aggressive activities then those offenders should be dealt with in accordance with the established law of the land. That due to the terror activities of certain people, it is wrong to brand an entire religion or an ideology or a philosophy to be engaged in terrorist activities.

20. That the aforementioned statements used in connection with the Hindu Religion are extremely derogatory, defamatory and insulting to the Hindus.

21. That YOU NOTICEE have been in public life for a long time and have held various posts of responsibility including being the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and also presently the General Secretary of All India Congress Committee, the party leading the Coalition Government at the Centre.

That despite being in public life for long time and holding a constitutional post, the offence of YOU NOTICEE becomes graver in your intentionally, deliberately and maliciously making the abovementioned statements/charges knowing fully well that they have the tendency to severely hurt the emotions of the people professing the aforesaid religion.

22. That United Nations General Assembly has condemned terrorist acts using the following political description of terrorism:

“Criminal acts intended or calculated to provoke a state of terror in the general public, a group of persons of particular persons for political purposes are in any circumstance unjustifiable, whatever the considerations of a political, philosophical, ideological, racial, ethnic, religious or any other nature that may be invoked to justify them.”

That even the United Nations has defined terrorism as a criminal act with the intention to provoke terror among the masses in general irrespective of any religion.

That by making the aforesaid statements regarding a case which is of national importance and in which the Mumbai ATS Chief was killed by the terrorists and which is being investigated, you have unlawfully, unethically, immorally, maliciously tried to influence the ongoing investigation into the matter.

YOU NOTICEE have intentionally, deliberately and maliciously by distorting facts and with reckless indifference tried to outrage the religious feelings of the Hindus who follow this great religion and get inspired from the ethos, morals, values and principles of this ancient religion.

23. That YOU NOTICEE have thus wantonly indulged in an unlawful and criminal act by connecting and associating Hindu Religion with terrorism and thereby have tried to provoke people at large intending and knowing that it may cause rioting.

24. That YOU NOTICEE have done an act which has the potential of creating and promoting enmity between different groups on the ground of religion and thus have done an act prejudicial to maintenance of communal harmony and public order.

25. That YOU NOTICEE have deliberately and maliciously intended to outrage religious feelings of Hindus by insulting their religion and wounded their religious beliefs.

26. That the above said acts of YOU NOTICEE constitute offences punishable under the provisions of Sections 153, 153A, 295A, 298, 505(2) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as under various other provisions of law.

In the aforesaid premise, you are hereby called upon to tender an unconditional apology to the nation, the families of the patriots who became Martyrs fighting the cross-border terrorists and also the Hindu Community and to withdraw the aforesaid reckless and irresponsible statements with an undertaking not to use such derogatory and offending words in future, failing which I, on behalf of my clients, will be constrained to initiate appropriate legal action against you at your own risk, cost and consequences.

Copy of the notice is being kept in my office for further reference.

NDA demands Manmohan's resignation over 2G scam

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Wednesday sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's resignation "on moral grounds" if the government fails to answer opposition concerns on the alleged irregularities in the 2G spectrum allocation. "If you are saying the prime minister's post should be above related stories
Traffic advisory for Delhi NDA rally today
suspicion, then you should honestly form a JPC (joint parliamentary committee) to probe the 2G scam. And if you don't have answers to opposition concerns, then the prime minister should quit his post on moral grounds," Arun Jaitley of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which leads the NDA, said while addressing an anti-government rally in New Delhi.

At the Congress plenary Monday, Manmohan Singh had again rejected the BJP's demand to set up a JPC to investigate the 2G scam. He expressed his readiness to appear before parliament's Public Accounts Committee but said the prime minister's post should be above suspicion. The opposition has turned down the offer.

The BJP and its partners in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) took its fight against corruption to Delhi's streets two days after the Congress plenary concluded.

All major leaders of the NDA constituents are attending the rally at the Ram Lila grounds.

The anti-United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rally comes after the opposition parties stalled parliament for the entire Nov 9-Dec 13 winter session demanding a JPC probe into the wrongdoings in the allocating second generation telephony spectrum in 2008, an issue that forced DMK leader A Raja to quit as communications minister.

The rally, targetting the Congress-led UPA on various corruption scams, kick-starts the NDA's two-month long nationwide campaign against corruption.

Forum for Integrated National Security (FINS)

Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists had attacked Indian Parliament, the very seat of democracy, on 13th December, 2001 and they came very near to success. Four JeM members were later found guilty by the Trial Court for having played various roles in this incident. Md Afzal Guru, one of the four convicts was awarded death penalty by the Trial court in Delhi on 18th December, 2002. The death sentence was upheld by the Delhi High Court on 29th October, 2003 and the Supreme Court rejected his appeal about two years later (on 4th August, 2005). In fact, the Sessions Court fixed 20th October, 2006 for his hanging in Tihar jail. On the plea of his mercy petition pending before the President of India, his execution stands indefinitely postponed. Now do you believe that the Government is keen at all on fighting back terrorism?!

The families of the security personnel killed in the attack on Parliament expressed their disgust over the delay in hanging Afzal Guru. They felt so humiliated and cheated that on 13th December, 2006 (patiently waiting for 5 years from the date of attack), they chose to return the Keerthi Chakras to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, as a mark of their protest. Doesn’t it show that the government’s honouring of the dead heroes was only an eye-wash? Doesn’t it expose the arrant insensitivity of the government to the supreme sacrifices made by our soldiers?!

Afzal Guru hails from Sopore in Kashmir Valley; and the government fears a backlash in the Valley in case he is hanged. Syed Ali Shah Geelani, a Kashmiri separatist leader has been consistently demanding the release of Afzal Guru. Do you think that a cowardly government which allows itself to be blackmailed by the secessionists & terrorists, would do anything to weed them out?

With these shuddering questions lingering in many minds, Social Cause & FINS cordially invite you and your friends to a Seminar on

Full text of R. Regupathi's letter to Madras High Court Chief Justice

Full text of R. Regupathi's letter to Madras High Court Chief Justice

The following is the letter dated July 2, 2009 written by R.Regupathi, then Judge of the Madras High Court, to the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court containing the relevant part where there is a specific reference to R.K.Chandramohan.

(By an order on Tuesday, a Division Bench comprising Justices F.M. Ibrahim Kalifulla and M.M. Sundresh ordered the suspension of the membership of Mr. Chandramohan and his Chairmanship of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.)

“On 12.06.2009, at about 2 p.m. during Lunch Recess, while I was in the Chamber, High Court, Madras, my Office Assistant, Mr. Mujibur Ali, informed me that Mr. Chandramohan, Chairman, Bar Council of Tamil Nadu, is waiting and seeking for an appointment to meet me and, immediately, I allowed him to come in. To start with, he discussed about the general subject on Advocates and so proceeding, he said that two persons, who are father and son/accused in a criminal case, are family friends of a Union Minister by name Raja, and that the petition filed by them for anticipatory bail must be considered favourably. Simultaneously, he handed over his mobile phone by saying that the Union Minister is on the line to have a talk with me. Right away, I discouraged such conduct of Mr. Chandramohan and told him that the case would be disposed of in accordance with law, if listed before me.

“Subsequently, on 29.06.2009, second anticipatory bail petition came to be filed for the same accused and on behalf of Mr. Chandramohan (counsel on record for the petitioners/accused), who was present in the court, Mr. Masood, Advocate, argued by stating that some new points need to be submitted and, for such purpose, the Case Diary must be summoned. Adverting to the counter filed by the prosecution and referring to the view I had already taken during the previous occasion and pointing out that there was no change of circumstance to positively consider the case of the petitioners, it was conveyed that there was no valid reason or ground to grant the prayer in the 2nd petition. It was also observed that the counsel may argue the case in detail, however, this time orders would be passed on merits and they would not be allowed to withdraw the petition. Again, the counsel insisted that the case diary must be called for and the case be heard in detail with reference to the materials collected during the course of investigation. I have impressed upon the representing counsel by explicating that a like direction could be given to the prosecution only in the event of the Judge satisfying that such course is inevitable and absolutely necessary in a given situation and that, on mere demands and as a matter of routine, such exercise cannot be undertaken.

At that time, Mr. Chandramohan stood up and made a similar demand and when I emphatically declined to accede to his adamant demand, he vociferously remarked that the court is always taking sides with the prosecution and not accepting the submissions made by the counsel for the accused while giving importance to the Prosecutor. On such pointless remark, I said that the counsel engaged to argue on his behalf has made his submission and he is not supposed to pass such slanderous and derogatory remarks; for, all these days, the court has been passing orders after hearing the parties and assessing the cases on their own merits and in accordance with law. In spite of that, Mr. Chandramohan, insisted that the Case Diary must be summoned and the matter be adjourned to some other day. Since Mr. Chandramohan highly raised his voice and his approach towards the court was quarrelsome, I told him that a person like him, an advocate holding position as Chairman of a State Bar Council, should not behave in such a fashion. Still the learned Advocate was outburst and uncontrollable, and I observed that a counsel, who made an attempt to exert influence on the court by using the name of a Cabinet Minister, cannot be allowed to succeed in snatching an order in his favour by advancing threat. Due to such odd experience, I had to direct the Registry to place the papers before Your Lordship for obtaining orders to post the case before some other learned Judge.

“The case concerned was taken up at the end in the afternoon and inside the court hall, there were about 4 to 5 Advocates present and no one from the Press was there. That being so, the oral observations actually made came to be translated by the Print and Electronic Media with their own interpretations and ideas …….

“I have written this letter/report to apprise Your Lordship the actual state of affairs Involved.”

Division will aggravate Ayodhya dispute: RSS

Division will aggravate Ayodhya dispute: RSS

Departing from its stated position on the Ayodhya verdict, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Sunday said the construction of a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya, and not the division of disputed land, is the only solution for lasting peace. Division, it said, doesn’t resolve, but aggravates dispute.

While welcoming the Allahabad high court verdict on Ayodhya on September 30 (wherein the court divided the disputed land in three equal parts), the RSS had urged the communities to accept it and pave the way for the construction of the temple, since the court had upheld that it was the birthplace of Rama.

“Historically, we have seen that sharing or partition has not yielded any peaceful solution,” RSS chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat said. “Kashmir is the best example; did the acceptance of the line of actual control help resolve the issue?

India’s partition gave us four wars and terrorism. Those who favour division serve their self interests by keeping the country divided. The only option is to build a grand temple in Ayodhya and re-establish a symbol of Bharat’s ‘swatva’ (or self-conscience).”

“In fact,” he said, “it is time we re-estalish all such symbols that portend Bharat’s self-image and nature that was razed during the foreign rule.”

Bhagwat was addressing a huge gathering at the Resghimbaug ground at the ‘Virat Hindu Sammelan’, part of the ongoing campaign launched in August last, by the Sangh-backed Hanumat Shakti Jagrant Samiti to revive the temple issue. A battery of modern saints led by Narendra Maharaj was in chair.

The change of stand on the Ayodhya dispute, Sangh watchers say, comes after two months’ of internal brainstorming and the decision of the Babri Masjid Action Committee to appeal before the Supreme Court against the Allahabad high court’s verdict.

The RSS is looking to push on the national political scene both, the vexed Kashmir and Ayodhya issues. Its affiliates, including the BJP, would subsequently join the campaign by steering the issues in line with the RSS positions and objectives, insiders say.

Bhagwat’s speech on Sunday was based on the theme of division or partition and his articulation was to bring Kashmir and Ayodhya issues in line with its strategy to steer the campaigns together.

“There is no dispute about Kashmir,” he said. “It’s an external attack that needs to be defiantly repulsed and the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir needs to be retrieved,” he said. Bhagwat called the recent protests in the valley as an “organised stone pelting” by the separatists to mount pressure on the government.

Without a direct reference to the Congress leader Digvijay Singh, he said there’s a tendency to malign the image of those who serve the motherland, hit out at the saints and soul of the country, and politicise the martyrdom of those who lay their lives for the country. “They put self-interests above the nation; which is to establish the vote banks even while maligning the country’s soul and character.”

राम मंदिर के लिए साधू संतों ने लिया संकल्प

New Delhi Dec 12, 2010. Today Ramleela Maidan Delhi, witnessed large gathering of Ram Bhakts to build a glorious temple at the birth place of lord Ram. The large number of saints and prominent personalities took part in the Dharma Sabha called by Shri Hanumant Shakti Jagaran Samittee Delhi. A Mahayagn was also performed before the dharma sabha at the same venue to get the divine blessings for the ram Temple.

Addressing the gathering Shri Ashok Singhal, President VHP, said that Ram Temple cannot be constructed in in a room of 40X90fts area. Therefore the whole 70 acres land must be given to Lord Ram and all political parties of the countries should get united to solve this issue for ever and maintain peace in the country. The Muslims should leave their claim on the one third of the land and present an example of communal harmony. Criticising Sonia Gandhi for her statement calling the disputed structure as Babri Masjid, he said that neither it was made by Babar nor it was a mosque as delivered by the high court. He called all countrymen to come forward for ram temple and save the rich cultural heritage of the country.

Shri Suresh Soni, the joint General secretary-RSS said that those people who are in favour of constructing Mandir and Masjid side by side want the issue to remain alive and their vested interests be full filled for political gains. As lord Ram is the cultural identity of Bharat, the construction of glorious temple is the need of the country.

While paying rich tributes to the martyrs of Ram Janam Bhoomi movement Sadhvi Ritambhara said that all Hindus must get united to save the country from the clutches of sects and castes so that the movement can be taken to its last destination that is Ram Temple.

The new found Congress slogan – “Go-mata ki hai”

The new found Congress slogan – “Go-mata ki hai”

Political secretary to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Ahmed Patel advocated the enactment of the law banning cow slaughter in the country. "Cow slaughter is inhuman and must be prevented," Patel, who attended the Urs (death anniversary) of Sufi saint Hazrat Shah Quamuddin Dada in Ekkalbara, said. Patel said holding religious fares can strengthen communal harmony in the country. "Indian civilisation and culture survived due to preaching of religious leaders of both Hindu and Muslim community," he said. The issue of enacting the law banning cow slaughter across the country was raised by the custodian of the shrine during the programme.
Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel has announced to donate Rs 10 lakh for the construction of a cow-shed near a centuries-old dargah in the district.

Face value being a hard core and politician in the closest circle (political secretary) of Sonia Gandhi his utterances can only be taken with a pinch of salt. But the Hindutva influence increasingly inundating the Congress citadel is a recent phenomenon following the emergence of the Hindu vote in Indian polity. Maybe, Congress needs Hindu votes badly as the Hindu vote has proved itself beyond doubt in Gujarat and Bihar.

BJP assails State Government for Non-implementation of Central Schemes in Odisha.

BJP assails State Government for Non-implementation of Central Schemes in Odisha.

Bhubaneswar,(visakeo)The Central Government has earmarked 2500 crores of rupees for Integrated Action Plan for various developments in 60 districts spread over 9 states known for Maoist Extremism. Out of these 60 districts 15 belong to Odisha State. With regard to Odisha the Union Government has taken over the implementation programme out of the control of the State Government ,by directly granting 25 crores per district to be kept in separate savings bank account by the respective District Collectors who would be directly reporting to the Centre through internet, latest by 10th of every month.
The State BJP has urged the State Government to revolt against such interference in state administration in violation of the federal principles in the Constitution or else; let the C.M. not accept any central grant and undertake development of the backward districts utilizing funds from State resources. BJP spokesperson Shri Ashok Sahu challenged the C.M. that accepting such direct control of the district administration by the Centre amounts to abdication of his own authority as the Chief Minister of the State.
Shri Sahu further alleged that crores of central grant intended for Infrastructural development, NREGP, Anganbadi buildings, Village schools and rural roads under various schemes in districts like Malkanagiri, Nowrangpur, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Subarnpur, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Sundargarh and Mayurbhanj has been returned to the centre as unspent. These districts due to unbridled corruption in administration and lack of development have fallen easy prey to the Maoists. Everyday violent incidents involving common and poor man as victims are reported particularly from Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Koraput, Rayagada and Malkanagiri districts. Shri Sahu further alleged that the para-military Forces sent by the Central Government are not used to contain Maoist violence, but misused to terrorize poor and simple tribal in Kandhamal in the name of apprehending wanted persons accused in old incidents of 2007 and 2008.
The Integrated Action Plan (IPA) is a welcome move by the Central Government to improve the rural backward districts infested with Maoist violence, but the State Government under the leadership of Naveen Pattnaik is unlikely to yield any result as the priority of the C.M. is to benefit the industrial houses like Jindals,Tatas, Vedants,POSCO and his own brother Prem Pattnaik rather development of the undeveloped districts, alleged Shri Sahu, the BJP spokesman.
If there is no improvement in implementation of developmental programme in rural areas within two months, under various government schemes, the BJP has warned the Naveen Govt. in the State to intensify agitational programmes in the whole of Odisha, Shri Ashok Sahu BJP leader said.

BJP youth wing stages rally, seeks CM's resignation

BJP youth wing stages rally, seeks CM's resignation
Bhubaneswar

Alleging that the Chief Minister has knowingly sold out Lord Jagannath's Amrutmanohi lands to a private company in the name of setting up of a university, the BJP on Monday declared that it would not remain silent until the lands are restored to the original owners and the Chief Minister resigns over High Court verdict to this effect.

"We have been demanding the Chief Minister's resignation in the wake of High Court's verdict that blamed the Government for illegal acquisition of lands for the Vedanta University inside the Assembly. Now the BJP Yuva Morcha is protesting for the same. We would not sit silent until the Chief Minister resigns and lands are restored as per the High Court order," said BJP Legislature party leader KV Singh Deo.

Addressing a huge protest rally of BJP Yuva Morcha (BJPYM), Singh Deo came down heavily on Naveen Patnaik's pro-Vedanta stand and said the latter has no respect for law. "The Chief Minister always preaches- law will take its own course. While he activated it for others in his ministry in the past driving away them, why did not he follow this principle while the High Court has already accused his Government of taking illegal steps for acquiring lands for a private university," Singh Deo slammed.

Commenting on protests by the Opposition inside the Assembly, Singh Deo said the Speaker has been deferring his decision on their privilege motion against the Chief Minister. "The Government is not interested to have a discussion on the issue and finding clues to adjourn the House sine die," the BJPLP leader said. Former Law Minister and senior party leader Biswa Bhusan Harichandan said he did not understand why the Chief Minister went ahead for acquiring lands for a private company with no experience in the education sector. "When I was the Law Minister, I had requested him (the Chief Minister) not to give valuable lands of Lord Jagannath to the private company time and again. But keeping ulterior motive in mind he converted the company into a public limited one," the BJP leader said.

He alleged that the Government has violated many laws including Forest Conservation Act, Environment Protection Act, Land Acquisition Act and Sri Jagannath Temple Act. "The High Court verdict on Khandadhar Mines licence and Vedanta University land acquisition deal has proved it," Harichanda said. He also demanded the Chief Minister's resignation on this context.

BJP State president Jual Oram called upon all youth to take the State Government's anti-people issues to the common people and to open Naveen's real face before them. Hundreds of activists of BJPYM led by its president Bibhuti Jena were arrested while they tried to break the police cordon.

Opp sticks to stand on CM's resignation on Vedanta

Opp sticks to stand on CM's resignation on Vedanta

Pandemonium continued to prevail in Odisha Assembly on Tuesday as the both the main Opposition parties the Congress and the BJP reiterated their demand for Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's resignation over the High Court verdict on the Vedanta University land acquisition deal.

As they continued to stage dharna and shout slogans in protest normal business could not be transacted due to the uproar. When proceedings began at 10.30 am, Congress members holding placards rushed to the well of the House and demanded that the Chief Minister should resign giving respect to the High Court verdict. They also demanded that the House should be informed about what decision the Speaker had taken on their privilege motion placed against the Chief Minister. Due to continued disruptions, the Speaker was forced to adjourn the House time and again.

Even as the Question Hour was conducted amidst sloganeering, a debate on demand for a permanent High Court bench in Western Odisha and the issue of verbal duel between two Puri district MLAs were also discussed.

Pipli MLA Pradip Moharathy urged that personal aspersions made bySatyabadi MLA should be taken off the proceedings. He also demanded that the Speaker should inform the House that he has passed BA. "I have shown you my certificates. I request you to make it clear that I have passed BA," he said, threatening that he would not come to the House until the House was informed whether he passed BA or not. After that Maharathy left the House.

Meanwhile, Prasad said he had not issued any personal aspersions against Maharathy. "What I had mentioned in the House on Monday has been recorded," he said.

Intervening in the issue, Parliamentary Minister Raghunath Mohanty requested the two members to forget what happened on Monday. The matter ended only when the Government Chief Whip went to Maharathy and requested him to come back to the House on behalf of the Speaker.

On 8th August, 1993, a Bomb Blast occurred in RSS Headquarters Chennai killing 11 persons and injuring 5. The trial Court convicted the appellants by sentencing to a life imprisonment. The Honorable Supreme Court has dismissed the case, setting them aside and letting them free. Some of the extract of the Supreme Court is as follows:

……….. It was also for the prosecution to establish as to what has happened to gelatin, which was allegedly procured by the conspirators there is no mention of any other explosive being procured by the conspirators. The expression used was other materials. Not other explosives. This expression referred only to the other materials which were required to assemble the bombs……

….. in this case there is no direct evidence of the crime. The prosecution case hinges on circumstantial evidence. It is an accepted proposition of law that even in cases where no direct evidence is available in the shape of eye-witnesses etc. ………….a conviction can be based on circumstantial evidence alone.

………Excepting for the confessional statements, admittedly, there is no other independent evidence with regard to the participation of the accused in the conspiracy and the particular role played by them.

According to these confessions, A15 Imam Ali and A17

Kaja Nizamuddin had carried the two suitcases inside the building. Therefore, it is apparent that even according to the prosecution version, they could have only carried bombs made from gelatin. The lid on the prosecution case is blown away by the report of forensic experts and the traces of the explosive material collected at the Bomb site. In this screening procedure positive response was obtained for both PETN and RDX in some of the exhibits. It was also noted that few exhibits gave positive tests only for PETN, some exhibits gave positive tests only for RDX and some exhibits gave positive tests for both PETN and RDX. However, many exhibits did not give positive tests for any of the explosives.”………

………..Suspicion no matter how strong cannot take the place of legal proof but no trace of gelatin was found form the scene of crime. In the result the prosecution story as put forward does not inspire confidence on the basis of the material placed on record. Criminal Appeal No.1374 of 2007 and Criminal Appeal No.552 of 2008 filed by the accused appellants are, therefore, allowed and the conviction and sentence passed against the appellants are set aside. They shall be set free forthwith unless wanted in any other case.

With the blast of RSS Office by anti-Hindu elements, Islamic terrorism entered in Tamilnadu. In the present case, the three accused may be let off on benefit of doubt but there was a conspiracy by Islamic terrorists and therefore the blast occurred. So the conspiracy part of the episode remains which is to be seen how the learned Court will view the conspiracy of anti-nationals

NEW DELHI: The CBI on Monday suffered a setback with the Supreme Court acquitting three persons sentenced to life imprisonment in the case relating to the bomb blast at the RSS office in Chennai in 1993 in which 11 people were killed.

A bench of Justice B Sudershan Reddy and Justice S S Nijjar said the prosecution failed to conclusively establish the guilt of Abubucker Siqqique, M P Rafiq Ahamed and Hyder Ali in blasting the building in Chennai's M V Naidu Street in retaliation for the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992.

The apex court said the trial court had erroneously convicted the trio on the basis of their confessional statement of procuring gelatin and detonators for committing the offence, though there was no trace of the said material, as explosives like RDX and PETN were used in the daring attack.

The trio were earlier convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by a designated court on June 21, 2007, for murder, criminal conspiracy and various other offences under the TADA Act on the basis of the chargesheet filed by CBI.

The apex court said excepting the confessional statements there was no other independent evidence with regard to the participation of the accused in the conspiracy and the particular role played by them.

Supreme Court acquits 3 alleged terrorists in RSS bomb blasts in Chennai

The CBI today suffered a setback with the Supreme Court acquitting three alleged terrorists sentenced to life imprisonment in the case relating to the bomb blast at the RSS office in Chennai in 1993 in which 11 people were killed.

A bench of Justice B Sudershan Reddy and Justice SS Nijjar said in a judgement the prosecution failed to conclusively establish the guilt of Abubucker Siqqique, MP Rafiq Ahamed and Hyder Ali of blasting the building in Chennai's MV Naidu Street in retalation for 1992 Babri Masjid demolition.

The apex court said the trial court had erroneously convicted the trio on the basis of their confessional statement of procuring gelatin and detonators for committing the offence, though there was no trace of the said material, as rather explosives like RDX and PETN were used in the daring attack.

The trio were earlier convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by a designated court on June 21, 2007, for murder, criminal conspiracy and various other offences under the TADA Act on the basis of the chargesheet filed by CBI.

The Supreme Court has ordered acquittal of three main accused in the case relating to a bomb blast at the RSS office in Chennai and directed their release forthwith. The TADA court in Chennai had awarded life imprisonment to them.

A Bench of Justice B. Sudershan Reddy and Justice S.S. Nijjar allowed the appeals of Kaza Nizamuddin, Hyder Ali and Abubucker Siddique challenging the life sentence and dismissed the CBI's appeals questioning the acquittal of some of the accused by the TADA court.

The prosecution case was that on August 6, 1993, there were loud explosions which resulted in the death of 11 persons, injuries to seven, and complete demolition of the building. Writing the judgment, Justice Reddy said, “Excepting for the confessional statements, admittedly, there is no other independent evidence with regard to the participation of the accused in the conspiracy and the particular role played by them. It is apparent that even according to the prosecution version, they could have only carried bombs made from gelatine.”

The Bench, accepting the arguments of senior counsel R. Natarajan and counsel G. Balaji appearing for the appellants, said the confessional statements reveal that what was purchased was only gelatine sticks from Gudiyatham and not RDX or PETN, which has got a serious bearing on the acceptability of the confessional statements of the accused and their involvement of all the accused in the conspiracy. The lid on the prosecution case is blown away by the report of forensic experts and the traces of the explosive material collected at the bomb site.

“The prosecution story does not inspire confidence on the basis of the material placed on record,” it said. www.hindu.com/2010/12/07/stories/2010120750520100.htm

Green fundamentalism as state oppression

Green fundamentalism as state oppression
December 05, 2010 6:56:23 PM

Swapan Dasgupta

Union Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar is, arguably, one of the most resourceful figures of contemporary India with interests that range from politics and business to cricket. To admirers he is the very personification of business-friendly pragmatism, carrying with him the reputation for getting things done. To sceptics, however, Pawar is synonymous with amoral deal-cutting and calculated expediency — the epitome of the go-getting ruthlessness that has come to define both Mumbai and Indian capitalism.

Pawar's colleague in the UPA Government Jairam Ramesh sets a very different trend. A wordsmith with a penchant for witty one-liners, he has won admiration in a remarkably short time for his ability to grasp issues and challenge conventional thinking. A far cry from the fuddy-duddy politician, Ramesh is the bridge linking Mrs Indira Gandhi's vengeful populism with Sonia Gandhi's more calibrated, but no less self-serving, paternalism.

Since assuming charge as Environment Minister, Ramesh has consciously kept himself in the news. On the plus side he has energised wildlife protection and sought to put some order into India's neglected national parks and animal sanctuaries. But these have been overshadowed by the controversies over his attempt to close the gap between India's environment policies and the path being advocated by the West, notably the European Union. His unilateral declaration, just prior to last year's Copenhagen summit on Climate Change, of reducing carbon gas emission by 20 per cent by 2020, was been attacked by many as “lacking due diligence”. There are now fears that at Cancun he may commit India to an international inspection regime without securing anything tangible in return — apart, possibly, from a career in the global seminar circuit when he ceases to be Minister.

The charge of playing to the activists' gallery has, ironically, spurred Ramesh to don the Al Gore mantle more energetically. In the past few months, Indian business and State Governments have been devastated by the single-mindedness with which he has used his discretionary powers to stop big-ticket projects. He has been particularly savage in using the Green veto against Odisha. But he was more accommodating with State Governments in which the Congress has a stake, prompting charges that environmental laws are being used as a variant of the licence-permit-quota raj.

A clash between the forces that Pawar relates to and those who play cheerleaders for Ramesh was imminent. Pawar has reposed faith in a market-driven growth that, it must be said, also suffers from familiar distortions; Ramesh, on his part, champions an interventionist state, apparently committed to checking the distortions resulting from rapid growth.

Ideally, the clash should have come a few months earlier when Ramesh put a spanner in the works of Vedanta and Posco in Odisha, one of India's most backward States. Unfortunately, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik decided that quiet lobbying, the good sense of the Prime Minister and the judicial process were better alternatives to a direct clash with the Centre. The Odisha challenge would have triggered an overdue debate on the conflict between growth and Green fundamentalism, and the right of the Centre to dictate to the States. Tragically, the opportunity was missed.

Pawar's protest against the stay on all work and the restoration of status quo ante in the Lavasa hill station located in the Baramati parliamentary constituency has been seen in a narrow political light: As a constituency compulsion and a defence of its promoter Ajit Gulabchand of Hindustan Construction Company. Indeed, Pawar has readily conceded that he conceived the spectacular township after a trip to the English Lake district. Additionally, his daughter was among the original promoters, till she sold her stake in 2004.

Equally, the sub-text of Ramesh's stay order has been read as a bid to ‘fix' Pawar and ingratiate himself with the likes of Medha Patkar and Anna Hazare — activists who are to the Sonia Congress what Left intellectuals were to the Indira Congress. In short, the battle is widely perceived to be political and not really centred on the protection of the environment.

It is for, example, revealing that Ramesh's ex parte order is based on Lavasa not getting certain clearances from the Centre. In its reply, Lavasa Corporation, apart from listing the 25 different clearances from different authorities it has already secured, says that it has secured the necessary permission from the Maharashtra Government. It claims that as per law it does not need a clearance from New Delhi. Ramesh's Ministry has thought otherwise and peremptorily imposed a stay without even a hearing. The stay was carefully timed to disrupt Lavasa's Rs 20 billion IPO scheduled for this month.

Whether Ramesh is personally culpable for his draconian order that demands the demolition of an entire town, the unemployment of 8,000 workers and the dispossession of 1,600 house owners, is for the courts to decide. What is important to note is the potential havoc an Environment Minister can wreak with his apparent discretionary powers. And it was done on the strength of a dispute over the jurisdiction of the State and Union Government — a babu problem, not a Green issue.

Indian environmentalism under Ramesh is fast turning into state oppression. Too many people have tolerated his flights of whimsy silently. Maybe it needed Pawar's buccaneering endorsement to create the confidence to challenge a Minister who has convinced everyone that he is just a proxy for the heir apparent.

MUMBAI: VHP general secretary Pravin Togadia general secretary of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP,,) received a major reprieve from the Bombay HC on Tuesday when the judge stayed criminal proceedings against him in a case where he was accused of making inflammatory speeches at a public meeting at Nardulla Tank, Prabhadevi on March 16, 2003. The Dadar metropolitan court had issued proceedings against Togadia on January 7, 2005., after the section officer of the state home department in October 2004 gave sanction to prosecute him.The magistrate had also issued a warrant against Togadia. By filing a petition in high court, Togadia filed a petition in the HC to seek quashing of all the criminal proceedings against him.tnn. Justice Rekha Sondur-Baldota stayed criminal proceedings against Togadia pending in the court of Dadar Additional Metropolitan Magistrate for allegedly making inflammatory speech while hearing a public meeting at Nardulla Tank, Prabhadevi on March 16, 2003.

Dadar metropolitan court had issued proceedings against Togadia on January 7, 2005 after the section officer of the state Home department in October 2004 gave a sanction to prosecute Togadia. The magistrate had also issued warrant against Togadia. By filing a petition in high court, Togadia has sought quashing of all the criminal proceedings against him.

According to Togadia's petition, he addressed a public meeting organized by Rashtriya Vichar Manch at Nardulla Tank, Prabhadevi on March 16, 2003 as the General Secretary of VHP. After the meeting was over, it was alleged that through this speech Togadia attempted to promote disharmony amongst the Hindus, Muslims and Christians.

An FIR was registered on September 27, 2003, by one Vivekanand Bhosale under sections 153A, 153B, 298 and 505 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police had also recorded statements of eight witnesses.

"Complainant (Bhosale) had stated that Teesta Setalvad of Communalism Combat has submitted an English gist of the speech given by me, which reflects the words used by me may affect the national harmony. Setalvad has given a written complaint to Dadar police station and claims offences are punishable under the said sections and had asked to register the complaint," says Togadia's petition.

"An opinion was sought from the public prosecutor, Greater Mumbai, who too had opined that contents of the speech amount to offence punishable under the said sections of IPC," says the petition. It further says that "all statements of witnesses are identical and stereotyped."

The Home department had granted sanction to prosecute Togadia on October 7, 2004, after which the magistrate took cognizance of the case and issued summons to him.

"Charge sheet was filed after more than two years. It appears that the state has filed the FIR under pressure from Setalvad," states the petition.

Togadia's advocate Niteen Pradhan argued that preliminary inquiry was not carried out by the police. "He has only spoken about Historical facts," Pradhan told the court.

Additional public prosecutor Usha Kejariwal sought time to seek instructions from the police department.

"A group of activists had together urged action against the Hate speech of Togadia. I was one of them. We believe that the utterance of the venom of the kind that Togadia and his ilk specialise in destroy the fabric of tolerance and mutual respect in our society and have always urged the authorities to act against all hate speech be it of the saffron or green variety," Setalvad told Times Of India.

Peace formula to be presented to SC after approval of Islamic bodies

Faizabad, December 04,

One of the main litigants in Ayodhya title suits case Hashim Ansari on Saturday said the formula for a peaceful solution to the vexed issue would be presented before the Supreme Court only after being approved by top Islamic institutions and concerned parties. The formula will be put forth before the apex court after getting it approved by all related parties and top Islamic institutions by the end of this month, Ansari said after discussing the issue with Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind leader Captain Afzal Ahmad Khan at the latter's residence here.

"I have discussed all points with Captain Afzal about the formula for a peaceful solution of Ayodhya issue. Both of us will further discuss it with top Islamic institutions like Darul Uloom Deoband, Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, Jamat-e-Islami, Sunni Central Waqf Board and other Muslim parties and litigants related with Babri Masjid case," Ansari said.

Mahant Gyan Das, who is also one of the main litigants in the case seeking a peaceful solution to the issue, said he is also not in favour of the formula being presented to the Supreme Court before being accepted by all litigants in the case.

Das and Ansari had told reporters on Friday that they had worked out a formula and would present it to the Supreme Court to resolve the vexed issue.

They had said they would wait for all the petitioners in the case to reach the apex court for challenging Allahabad High Court judgement as decided by them and there they would present the formula worked out by them in a written form.

Ansari and Das, who had earlier announced that they would make the formula public by December 10, today said they were not in favour of making it public.

Accusing the 'outsiders', including the VHP of conspiring to abort the negotiations for an amicable solution to the dispute Das said, "The VHP will be interested in raising the temperature like it did in 1989, they just want to fool people by talking of Ram Lalla."

Uproar in assembly over paddy distress sale

Uproar in assembly over paddy distress sale
Bhubaneswar

The Odisha Legislative Assembly on Tuesday witnessed uproarious scenes as both the Opposition Congress and the BJP expressed concern over the paddy distress sale and dissatisfied with the Minister’s reply walked out of the House.

While the Opposition placing an adjournment motion said while the farmers’ have already faced drought, their economic condition has further broken down due to paddy distress sale going on in the State.

Alleging that the State Government has no concern for the farmers, they dubbed the State Government as ‘anti-farmer’.

Refuting the charges of the Opposition, the Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Minister said there is no possibility of distress sale of paddy in the State.

“There is no distress sale of paddy in the State as the Government has decided to open as many as 1,425 paddy procurement centres,” the Minister said replying to the debate on the adjournment motion.

The Minister informed the House that no distress sale of paddy has taken place any where in the State as the State Government has been procuring the same from farmers through various agencies. As of now a total of 20,871 metric tonnes of paddy has been procured through State Civil Supply Corporation, NAFED, PACS, Pani Panchayats and Self Help Groups. Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) have alone procured 8,110 metric tonne of paddy, Nayak said.

Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh alleged that as the Government has not set up mandis for keeping of paddy, the farmers were being forced to sale their paddy at far less price than minimum support price. He accused the State Government of ignoring the interest of farmers at the cost of millers.

Though the minimum support price of good variety of paddy was `1030 per quintal, the farmers get only `600 or `700 due to lack of sufficient paddy procurement centres, he alleged.

Congress member Sadhu Nepak also alleged that though a large number of farmers are queuing up to different mandis to sell their paddy, they find no one there to receive them. “The Government has remained careless though the farmers have come down to the streets and protested against the Government’s apathy. It is most unfortunate,” he said.

BJP Chief Whip Jaynarayan Mishra also accused the State Government of not paying any heed to the farmers’ problems. He said while a number of farmers died due to crop loss and loan burden, the scenario has worsened as the distress sale was going on in the State.

Terming the Opposition allegations as partial truth ruling MLA Ananta Das requested the Minister to take steps so that paddy distress sale does not take place. However, he blamed the Food Corporation of India (FCI) for not meeting its target of procuring paddy from the farmers.

The State Government has set a target of procuring 32 lakh metric tonne of rice from the kharif season on the current year.

Anti-Vedanta group’s Bijaya Samabesha, told CM is equally guilt

Anti-Vedanta group’s Bijaya Samabesha, told CM is equally guilt
Leaders of different Opposition parties converged at Beladal village on Tuesday to mark the victory of anti-Vedanta University project activists in their years-long struggle.

Lashing out at the Naveen Patnaik Government from the podium BJP leader Bijay Mohapatra alleged that it was bent upon favouring the varsity project despite the High Court’s verdict against the land acquisition for the project.

He demanded that Naveen Patnaik resign in the wake of the court verdict.

BJP State Legislature Party leader Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo wondered how the Chief Minister could mislead the Assembly over the project.

Quoting the Temple Act, he said its clause 16-ii says the property of Sri Jagannath could not be sold or mortgaged in any circumstances. But it was surprising that the State Government sold thousands of acres of temple land at a nominal price for the Vedanta University project. To protest this, a Jail Bharo agitation would be launched on December 3, followed by gheraoing of the Assembly on December 7, he announced.

This apart, a Statewide campaign would be launched to enlighten the people about the so-called transparency of the Naveen Patnaik Government on this university issue, he said.

Noted lawyer Jayant Das and journalist Rabi Das explained the High Court’s judgement in simple local dialect to make people understand the outcome of their struggle. Upali Aparajita, an academician from the US, elaborated the minimum land required for an international university.

Chief adviser of the Vedanta Vishwavidyalay Sangram Samiti and former Puri MLA Umaballav Rath, who presided over the meeting, dedicated the forum’s victory to Sri Jagannath. The entire struggle was on the basis of non-violence and it had yielded the desired result, he added.

Former Union Ministers Brajakishore Tripathy, Chandrashekher Sahu (Congress), Dharmendra Pradhan (BJP), Balgopal Mishra, convener of Gandhamadan Suraksha Samiti Pradip Purohit, Sarat Mishra, Puri Zilla Parishad president Sankershan Parida, Gourhari Pradhan and Debi Prasad Prusty flayed the Naveen Patnaik Government and demanded his resignation.

Vedanta Vishwavidyalay Sangram Samiti president Benudhra Pradhan expressed his gratitude to all for their active support to the cause of the farmers who were on the verge of losing their land and property. Activist Vishnu Mishra conducted the proceedings.

Earlier, hundreds of activists came in a motorcycle rally from the Lion’s Gate of the Sri Jagannath Temple to the site.
