Widows flock holy city for Panchuka, Kartik Purnima
Widows flock holy city for Panchuka, Kartik Purnima
Our Correspondent
PURI, Oct 29:The last week of the ongoing auspicious month of Kartik has witnessed more devotees flocking to the holy city to observe Panchuka, considered as the holiest days of the Hindu calendar.
Lord Jagannath takes new attire (bhesas) on each day till the conclusion of the brata on the eve of Kartik Purnima. Devotees before the end of their brata visit the Pancha Teerth located around the city and take a holy dip in Mahodadhi Teerth (a portion of the sacred sea) and offer prayers to the Sun God and Lord Jagannath for salvation.
“This is the most sought-after place to attain salvation and the right time to consummate all religious activities,” said one amongst the scores of white-robed, frail-looking widows, mostly in their seventies, who congregate in lakhs at the holy Sri Kshetra Dham to observe the month-long Kartika Brata which kicks off from Kumar Purnima.
As per religious texts, one who observes this sacred brata in Puri attains salvation, which is the ultimate destination. Every year widows come to this city from various parts of the State, particularly from Ganjam, Gajapati, Bhanjnagar and other southern districts besides Chhattisgarh and Midnapore, to observe the brata ceremoniously.
Almost all mathas, dharmasalas and low-cost accommodations of Puri get full with pious devotees. House rents around the temple town go up during this month. Many of them share small rooms on rent while some trace houses of near and distant relatives for accommodation. They take sankalpa (religious vow) in a small ceremony to observe brata with devotion.
Braving the cold and inclement weather these old and emaciated widows rise early in the morning, finish their daily chores and take a holy dip in one of the four sacred tanks namely Narendra, Indradumna, Swetaganga and Markanda of the city.
They deck sandalwood tilak on their forehead and make a beeline in front of the Jagannath temple to witness mangala arti. Considering the huge rush of widow devotees to Puri to observe Kartika Brata, this could well be imagined how Kartika and Puri go in tandem. Devotees also express an unabated interest to solemnise any type of religious activities in the Lord’s abode.
Malati Bewa, a 78-year-old widow from Aska said, “I come here every year to observe the brata after my husband died in a road accident when I was 40 years old. I get mental peace and solace by observing the auspicious brata in Sri Kshetra.” Many others belonging to her village also accompany her every year.
While observing the month-long arduous Kartika Brata devoutly, they take all pains to make it a fruitful one. They don’t bother for the dilapidated mathas and dharmasalas or the exorbitant price of vegetables and observe the brata with strong determination. Some hapless and poor widows even don’t mind to sleep in the temple premises and take very little food suiting their standard of living. For Tulasi Devi from Cuttack, it was nearly a three months long tussle to collect money from her near and dear ones. “I even cannot think of terminating the brata in the wake of a possible financial crunch,” she said.
As per religious rituals, they install a chaura (Tulasi plant) called Brundabati in front of their accommodation to conduct religious practices in the morning. The bratadharis (vowed ones) use tulasi mala as necklace and for chanting sacred mantras especially the Hare Krishna mahamantra.
Prayers, chanting and clash of cymbals demonstrate a deep sense of devotion to Lord Jagannath. After returning from the temple, they recite the Kartik Mahatmya, a religious text, sitting around the chaura. They take cooked mahaprasad once in a day in the late evening before retiring to bed. Barring a few, most of these bratadharis hail from lower economic strata of the society and collect fund from family members and friends for the holy sojourn.
Rama Devi, an octogenarian widow with thick glasses and a wrinkled face with a bent spine, also observed the brata despite her physical constraints. She said that even her sons and grandsons opposed her from proceeding to Puri for the brata in view of her poor health. Since the last 30 years she has been coming to Puri to have a darshan of the Lord and observe the holy brata.
She prays the Lord to allow her to die in the sacred Sri Kshetra Dham and get cremated in the Swargadwar. Srinibas Mishra who gives religious discourses to the devotees in the temple premises during the holy month said that the bratadharis sit for hours together listening to the sermons of the text with rapt attention and pay him for his service.
Loknath Suar, a temple cook said that huge quantities of mahaprasad is cooked everyday and offered in bhands (special bhogs) in view of great demand among the widows. We have men called bojhias who carry mahaprasad on their head and deliver to the monthly enrolled devotees at minimum rate, he said.
The Sri Jagannath Temple Administration has rescheduled the various rites and rituals of Lord Jagannath to allow more time to devotees for darshan of the three deities. Offering of special bhog or cooked mahaprasad is allowed a number of times in order to provide the same to the devotees. Servitors are asked to work overtime while special attention is given to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the temple premises. Police arrangements have been beefed up in and around the temple on the eve of Kartik Purnima, sources said

TRIBALS WORSHIP OF COW: 21st Oct- The tribals of Western Orissa showed a great example while observing Saharai & Bandana festival in the month of Kartika. They observed fasting to worship the cow as Go-Mata. The 3 day festival started with Gotha Puja where the Adivasis clean their cattles, designed them & the cattleshed also. Tribals observed the festival not indivisually, but as mass festival. Tribals are observing this Gana Parba to protect the cows which they believe will bring prosperity & peace to the residence as well as to the village & also to the society. To observe fasting by men & women to worship cows is definitely an ideal to the Hindu society.

Resolution – 1
Strengthen Border Security
The Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal views recent developments along Bharat-Tibet (China occupied) border with grave concern. Several news reports, which have subsequently been confirmed by responsible sections in our security establishment, have highlighted relentless campaign by the expansionist China to encroach upon our territory.
These reports confirm that there were 270 Line of Control violations and 2,285 instances of “aggressive border patrolling” by the People's Liberation Army of China last year alone. It is a sad commentary on our political dispensation that instead of cautioning the countrymen over the evil designs of our adversary there were efforts to gag the voices of caution by trying to take action against the media and blatantly trying to underplay the looming danger. It is disheartening and demoralising to see our leaders making defeatist statements about our preparedness against the Chinese’ aggressive maneuvers.
It is unfortunate that our response to the bullying tactics of the countries around us has always been lackluster. Except for the historic decision of providing asylum to
HH the Dalai Lama our handling of the Tibetan question has all along been a series of blunders ending up in practically endorsing Chinese annexation of that sovereign and independent country. China went on to occupy Aksai Chin region of Ladakh in the 50s. The Chinese’ designs for further annexation of our territory have resulted in humiliating compromises from our side on Sumdorong Chu Valley in 1987. Emboldened by our timidity the Chinese have now started making claims over entire Arunachal Pradesh.
The ABKM views Bharat’s response to these acts of aggression grossly inadequate and calls upon the Government to take immediate steps to strengthen our borders on
Bharat-Tibet side as well as other borders like the maritime border, Bharat-Pak and Bharat-Bangladesh border. It is necessary to enhance the response capability of our forces on the Bharat-Tibet border in the face of the huge military build up and infrastructure building by China on the other side.
The Chinese have deployed three Es – Engagement, Encirclement and Encouragement of our enemies – as their tactical weapons to harass Bharat. They have developed
Coco Islands Listening Post in South Myanmar into a full-fledged military base. They are building a commercial port in Sri Lanka while the Gwadar military port in the
Sindh Province of Pakistan built by them is ready for operations. They are using
Bharat-Tibet border for military provocations while the Bharat-Myanmar border is being used by them to support the terrorist and anti-national elements in the North-East.
They even started talking about dismemberment of Bharat.
The ABKM regrets that the pussyfooting of our Government is resulting in not only the setbacks on territory front but also on the diplomatic front. China has succeeded in raking up Arunachal Pradesh issue in the Asian Development Bank with a view to scuttle our efforts to secure loans for developmental activity in that state. It unsuccessfully tried to prevent the Nuclear Supplier Group countries from lifting sanctions against our country.
The ABKM wants to remind the Government that it must proceed in the spirit of the
14 November 1962 unanimous resolution of our Parliament in which it was categorically stated that the territory annexed by China must be brought back. Our Government should tell the counterparts in China that they must vacate the land annexed in the western sector and make no claims over the remaining sectors. It should be asked to honour the McMahon Line as Bharat’s international border in the same manner as it has accepted it as the border between Myanmar and itself.
It is shocking to hear that the Chinese have been issuing paper Visas to our citizens from Arunachal Pradesh and Kashmir. Through this provocative act they want to show that they don’t recognize Arunachal Pradesh and Kashmir as integral parts of Bharat. The ABKM demands that the Government issue orders to the immigration authorities forthwith banning the use of such Visas for leaving our country. Such stern steps, coupled with aggressive diplomacy, will only yield favourable results with China.
The ABKM wants to underscore similar concerns on Bharat-Pak front also. Especially of great shock to the nation is the joint statement of the Prime Ministers of Bharat and Pakistan at Sharm-el-Sheik on 9 July 2009. Many experts and leaders from across the political spectrum have pointed out the huge diplomatic goof-up in that statement by way of the inclusion of Baluchisthan issue and our readiness to resume talks with Pakistan
in spite of it continuing to indulge in cross-border terror.
The ABKM demands that on Pakistan too our Government should follow the spirit of the 22 February 1994 unanimous resolution of our Parliament that the only outstanding issue is the return of the PoK to Bharat.
The ABKM registers its appreciation for our soldiers and officers for their valiant efforts to secure our borders and calls upon the countrymen to be ever-vigilant to ensure that the Government does everything possible to safeguard our territorial integrity and
self-respect.

Resolution – 2
Global Environment Crisis and Bharatiya view
The seamless rhythm of nature unwinding over millennia is suddenly being disturbed during the last few decades. The Akhil Bharaiya Karyakari Mandal expresses its deep concern over the serious global environmental crisis as evident from increasing water scarcity, air pollution, continuous erosion of forests and bio-diversity which is the outcome of growing worldwide consumerism and unrestrained consumption of natural resources.
This imbalance in the nature’s cycle is the direct result of the western individualistic worldview based on tenets like ‘struggle for existence’ and ‘exploitation of nature’. It is this worldview that has resulted in developed countries with only 16% of world population emitting more than half of total Carbon Dioxide emissions. With a mere
4% of world population the USA alone is responsible for 25% of CO2 emissions. The resultant rise in global temperature is expected to be anywhere between 2.5º F – 10º F in the twenty first century as against 0.7º F to 1.4º F in the twentieth century. Destruction of bio-diversity, depletion of ozone layer, increasing epidemics and melting of polar ice which may lead to the rise in sea levels from 0.2 – 1.5 meters inundating large chunks of land areas are some of the serious threats on the horizon as a result of this global warming.
In our country too, the same flawed lifestyle is leading to imbalance in the nature’s cycle. Today, the forest cover in Bharat is about 20% in place of mandated 33%. 80% of the diseases in Bharat are the direct outcome of polluted drinking water and lack of hygiene because over 75% of the population is forced to use polluted drinking water. Every year, half of the districts in the country are affected either by drought or floods. Continually depleting groundwater levels, increasing temperatures in summer, thousands of acres of agriculture land becoming saline and toxic due to uncontrolled use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides are some of the warning signals. No ebb is in sight to the diseases caused by unabated air pollution, sound pollution and water pollution due to industries in Metro cities and the menace of growing hazardous waste generated from thermocoal and plastic because of the 'Use and throw ' culture.
The present worldview is at the root of this global environmental crisis. Unless the reductionist and mechanistic worldview is negated, no solution will be in sight. Lifestyle based on 'Tena Tyaktena Bhunjeethah' (restrained consumption) coupled with a holistic and integral worldview is the necessity of the day. The ABKM is of the considered opinion that the Hindu worldview of integrated approach to humans, ecology and living creatures, gratitude towards ‘Panchamahabhootas’ (five universal elements viz Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space), belief in the concept of ‘Mother Earth’ and conservation of Water-Soil-Forests and the wildlife is crucial for a balanced ecology and nature. This worldview is being accepted globally also.
The ABKM is of the opinion that a positive initiative from policy makers and the society is essential for this. Articles 48A and 51A of our Constitution mandate both the citizens and State to protect environment, water sources and wildlife as their duty. In this context, it is pertinent to note that obstructing the flow of a river – a major source of water – severely endangers the environment.
Customs like worshipping of rivers and trees in our tradition are the manifestation of our holistic worldview. Martyrdom of Imartidevi along with 363 people to oppose cutting of trees in Rajasthan about 370 years back is its living testimony. Efforts for
environmental protection like the Chipko movement of independent Bharat and present
‘Vruksha – Laksha’ movement in Karnataka are worthy of emulation.
The ABKM appeals to the central and state governments to
take appropriate measures for preservation and development of water resources in the country
conserve soil by the restoration of natural and organic farming through the use of organic manure
make special plans for preservation of ecology of Himalayas and other mountain ranges
develop various alternative energy sources
take stringent measures against industries polluting water and air and take steps to put an end to the pollution in all the rivers like Ganga and Yamuna
to ensure continuous flow of river Ganga while implementing any project.
Appropriate policy based on community participation should be adopted in all such issues related to environment and development keeping in mind our social and cultural values. So also no unjust and inappropriate international treaty on such issues should be accepted.
The ABKM appeals to all the citizens including swayamsevaks that instead of depending on the government alone they should voluntarily initiate measures for water conservation, minimal use of plastic and electricity, afforestation etc. Care should be taken to ensure that no pollution or ecological imbalance is caused due to our customs. Let us contribute in this awareness campaign through our own example and collaborating with various initiatives of environment protection in the country.

Make Village the Focus for National Development
All great men who dreamt about prosperous and self reliant Bharat have stressed that the soul of Bharat lives in villages and that the real path of progress for our country is possible only through the well being of villages. Mahatma Gandhi in 'Hind Swaraj' and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay in his conception of Ekatma Manav Darshan emphasized the same. Based on this conception, eminent social worker Shri Nanaji Deshmukh has successfully achieved integrated rural development of several villages in and around Chitrakoot. Eminent thinker Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia also gave an outline of prosperous Bharat based on rural development. Even during freedom struggle, Gandhiji had observed that a day would come when not only Bharat but the entire world would have to make village a focal point of development for attaining real freedom and contentment. For this he visualized making villages of Bharat Gokuls, through cow, agriculture and village industries.
The present global economic crisis and environmental hazards have put a question mark on the western life style in its entirety. The end of socialism and the failure of capitalism are making the intellectuals throughout the world to seek a new approach for development. Humanity is in search of a new path for material and spiritual upliftment. Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal firmly believes that only Bharat can pave such a path. This belief is based on Hindu way of life based on harmony between man, society and nature which has been followed successfully for thousands of years. On the basis of such social structure, we could establish a most prosperous and developed civilization in the past; self reliant villages were the basic units of the social structure and necessity based production was the order of the day and wants were limited.
After independence, we gave up this basic vision and adopted Gross Domestic Product (GDP) based development model which lost credibility now in the western world itself. Rural economy got continuously neglected; agriculture became non-remunerative and village artisans and cottage industries were neglected. Due to lack of employment opportunities, proper health, educational and infrastructural facilities and onslaught of decadent western culture through TV and cinema, there has been mass exodus of people from villages to cities. By establishing facilities for processing and marketing of raw materials in villages and linking them with rural entrepreneurship, this exodus from villages could have been stopped. This neglect had disastrous effect on the rural economy. Continuous decline in rural investment and five year plan allocations are clear pointers to this neglect resulting in lack of funds for comprehensive development of rural infrastructure and agriculture based rural industries, and research and development facilities for agriculture. It is imperative for the government to provide for quality education relevant for villages, health services, employment opportunities, infrastructural facilities and create such modern models of development of villages which are ecofriendly and promote social harmony facilitating national integrity and progress.
ABKM is clearly of the opinion that cow-centric, organic and natural farming based village model supported by artisanship and rural industries can provide sustainable development for Param Vaibhav Bharat. Several experiments have indicated that organic farming can increase farm output. Research is also being conducted at several higher scientific institutions on integration of traditional knowledge with modern science to enhance quality of life in villages. Today materialism and greed are destroying social fabric and family. Cultural degradation is the natural consequence of this.
Rural reconstruction suited to the modern age based on simple living and sacrifice (thyag) is the only alternative. Cow connects us to our surroundings. Cow-centred village pattern in tune with nature, will not only be more profitable because it is not capital and machine based, but also will increase land fertility by use of natural fertilisers and pestcontrols. Gobar gas can also be alternative energy source. Panchagavya (milk, curd, ghee, Gomutra and Gobar), milk products and other medicines made from Gomutra can improve the economic standing of the villagers. For most of the farmers, plough based, or non-tilling (natural) agricultural will become a better option. Thus cow improves village life and is an important contributor for improving agricultural productivity.
This kind of self-reliant village system can effectively solve the economic and environmental problems. By crop rotation, use of green fertilisers, organic manures and pestcontrols, giving priority to traditional water resources like ponds, wells etc., and use of appropriate technology, it is possible to rejuvenate rural capabilities. Nature based and decentralised use of energy will not only reduce energy crisis, but will also decrease carbon emission levels. 'Vishwa Mangala Go Grama Yatra' organized by Saints and Dharmacharyas is a great endeavour for national awakening to tap this immense potential. ABKM welcomes this great effort.
ABKM urges the Central government to create a blue print for self reliant village based economy instead of populist slogans and plans. ABKM calls upon the society at large to leave behind complexes and build a prosperous Bharat based on village prosperity and calls upon the people for ‘Chalen Gram Ki Aur’ — March towards Villages.

Farmer suicides rocks Western Orissa
Farmer suicides rocks Western Orissa

SAMBALPUR: The Naveen Patnaik Government in Orissa has again dragged into controversy after reports of farmer suicide in western part of the State.
Bidyadhar Bag (50) of Khapsadera village in Tamparkela Gram Panchayat under Rengali block took away his life as his crop was badly affected by pests.
This was the third death in quick intervals in the undivided Sambalpur district. The first one was reported in Bargarh district followed by Jharsuguda and finally the third one in Sambalpur district.
Sources said Bidyadhar has only 40 decimal (0.40 acres) of arable land and he cultivated three acres on rent. After returning from the field he informed his wife and family members that the paddy had been affected by pests.
Enraged at Bidyadhar's 'lackadaisical attitude', his wife charged him with not taking proper care of the crop. This upset Bidyadhar who went to the market and on the plea of purchasing some medicines consumed pesticide and committed suicide.
The farmer was immediately rushed to Sambalpur Sadar hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead. Bidyadhar is survived by wife and three children.
Sambalpur District Collector Pradipta Kumar Pattnaik assured some help to the deceased's family from the district Red cross fund.
Sub-collector and other staff of Revenue and Agriculture department who visited the spot claimed that Bidyadhar's crop failure was totally due to his lack of care.

While deposing before Justice Sarat Mohapata Commission, the former Officer-in-Charge of Tikabali police station, Rajnikant Mallick said that security arrangements were very poor.
The police official said that security for late seer was not up to the mark as compared to the security he used to get at Chakapada ashram.
Persecution lawyer and State BJP president Suresh Pujari cross examined the police official and sought to know as to why the Seer was availed such security even despite threat to his life.
The Police official also admitted rift between the Hindu Kandhas and Panas in the region. Seer’s death greatly shocked his supporters resulting in communal riots, he said.
The former OIC narrated the rift between Kandhas and Panas in the area. He also said how Swamiji was active in anti-conversion activities and curbing cow slaughter in the region. Kandhamal Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar also deposed before the Commission. But he would be grilled on October 26.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal
Strengthen Border Security
The Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal views recent developments along Bharat and China occupied Tibet border with grave concern.
Except for the historic decision of providing asylum to HH the Dalai Lama our handling of the Tibetan question has all along been a series of blunders ending up in practically endorsing Chinese annexation of that sovereign and independent country.
The ABKM views Bharat’s response to these acts of aggression grossly inadequate and calls upon the Government to take immediate steps to strengthen our borders on Bharat-Tibet side as well as other borders like the maritime border, Bharat-Pak and Bharat-Bangladesh border.
They have developed Coco Islands Listening Post in South Myanmar into a full-fledged military base. They are building a commercial port in Sri Lanka while the Gwadar military port in the Sindh Province of Pakistan built by them is ready for operations. They are using Bharat-Tibet border for military provocations while the Bharat-Myanmar border is being used by them to support the terrorist and anti-national elements in the North East.
The ABKM wants to remind the Government that it must proceed in the spirit of the 14 November 1962 unanimous resolution of our Parliament in which it was categorically stated that the territory annexed by China must be brought back.
Many experts and leaders from across the political spectrum have pointed out the huge diplomatic goof-up in that statement by way of the inclusion of Baluchisthan issue and our readiness to resume talks with Pakistan in spite of it continuing to indulge in cross-border terror.
The ABKM demands that on Pakistan too our Government should follow the spirit of the 22 February 1994 unanimous resolution of our Parliament that the only outstanding issue is the return of the PoK to Bharat.
The ABKM registers its appreciation for our soldiers and officers for their valiant efforts to secure our borders and calls upon the countrymen to be ever-vigilant to ensure that the Government does everything possible to safeguard our territorial integrity and self-respect.

RSS noose tightens around BJP
NALIN VERMA
Patna, Oct. 7: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) decision to choose Bihar as the venue for its first karyakari mandal (working committee) conclave, to start from October 9, has raised eyebrows in state’s political circles.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and the top brass of the right-wing Hindu outfit have already reached Rajgir, the venue for what the Sangh Parivar mandarins describe as a “historic conclave”. The three-day conclave will conclude on October 11 and will be attended by over 350 members, including general secretary Bahiyaji Joshi, said RSS spokesman Manmohan Vaidya. The meeting agenda, Vaidya said, would be internal security, terrorism, Naxalite threat and border disputes with China and Pakistan.
However, Sangh Parivar sources said that the RSS had “chosen” Bihar as it also had “Bihar-centric” agenda. It seems that the outfit’s top brass believe that the “RSS ideology had weakened in Bihar despite the BJP sharing power with Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) in the state”.
Sources add that the RSS was anxious, as the BJP had allegedly forgotten issues such as infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals into Kishenganj, Katihar, Purnea and Araria despite staying in power with the Nitish government. The infiltration issue, ISI and cow slaughter in seemanchal areas were topics close to BJP heart, before it joined the Nitish-led government.
RSS ideologues are apparently not happy with Bihar BJP “toeing the line of Nitish” and appeasing minorities and escalated ISI activities on the India-Nepal and India-Bangladesh borders.
The Rajgir conclave is also being described as a fundamental shift in RSS strategy. “RSS’s top decision-making body had granted autonomy to the BJP to carrying forward its agenda. The RSS no longer finds the BJP, dogged by indiscipline and infighting, capable to pursue the Sangh’s policies,” said a source.
“Bal Apte, Ramlal, V. Satish and Saudan Singh will represent BJP in the conclave,” said Vaidya. The RSS has not invited any senior BJP leader from Bihar to participate in the proceedings.
“The RSS will have separate meetings with the Bihar BJP,” said Vaidya, defending the action. He refused to comment on the issue further. RSS sources said the outfit will evolve a formula to tighten the noose around the Bihar BJP.
However, a section of BJP ministers and senior party leaders are expected to attend the inaugural session on October 9.
“But, they will not be a part of the deliberations which will be a close-door affair confined among the RSS top brass, besides Bal Apte, Ramlal and Satish,” said the source.
Though the Nitish government provided security to the RSS chief on his journey from Patna to Rajgir, the chief minister is believed to be less enthusiastic about RSS choosing Bihar for its conclave.
Nitish apparently apprehends that the conclave might prove to be a weapon in the hands of rivals Lalu Prasad and Ram Vilas Paswan to pillory the NDA government for allowing the anti-minority outfit to spread its tentacles here, a state that has seldom been a comfortable with the right-wing philosophy.

RSS begins three-day meet in Bihar

Patna, Oct 9 (IANS) With terrorism, drought and the future course of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the agenda, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Friday began a three-day national executive meeting at Bihar’s heritage town of Rajgir.
Inaugurated by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and attended by 350 members from all over the country, the meeting is being held near Nalanda, about 100 km from here and known as an ancient seat of learning where Buddha spent many years.
The executive committee had an extensive agenda, said an RSS leader. It would discuss terrorism, Maoist violence, border disputes with Pakistan and China, drought and the ‘Gau Gram Yatra’, or the campaign to save cows.
The crisis in the BJP, with senior leaders openly voicing their dissent, would also be discussed, he said.
The meeting, being held in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s homeground, has seen a war of words between the ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U), an ally of the BJP, and the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal.
RJD senior leader Ramkirpal Yadav said the Nitish Kumar government was welcoming RSS leaders in Bihar to create communal trouble.
“When Lalu Prasad’s RJD was in power, RSS-VHP leaders like Pravin Togadia and Ashok Singhal were not allowed to step into Bihar… But the Nitish Kumar government is treating them like state guests,” he said.
JD-U leaders responded by saying that the RSS was not a banned organisation and therefore free to meet anywhere it liked.

BHUBANESWAR:(visakeo)- The entire Church in Orissa’s Kandhamal were very critical to the activities of late Hindu seer Swami Laxmananda Saraswati, said a police officer while deposing before the Justice SC Mohapatra Commission here.
Hemant Rao, who was the officer-in-charge at Phulbani Sadar Police Station during the communal violence that took place after August 23 last year, told the commission that the late Swamiji was regarded as a messiah by Hindu tribals but minorities disliked him for his campaign against conversion and cow slaughter.
On the other hand, a section of people, particularly minorities, disliked Saraswati’s activities, he said.
“The people in Kandhamal also believed that Hindu religion survived in the district on account of activities of Saraswati,” Rao said during cross examination.

The organisation is busy in full swing in providing relief to flood victims. The detailed report in this regard is as followed -
Flood Relief and Rehabilitation Activities undertaken
by “RSS and Seva Bharathi” Paschim Andhra Pradesh
RSS being the largest non governmental organization in India ,With its dedicated nationalist volunteers located each and every corner of affected areas, responded swiftly to help the needy before anybody including government could reach these areas. It has been proved once again that RSS stands for Ready for Selfless Service. Despite the non availability of resources and funds, Sayamsevaks raised above the expectations to serve the needy in these disastrous times.
RSS initiated the process of bringing together and collaborating with various NGOs and individual philanthropists for an coordinated effort to use the resources in the better manner.
First Phase of Relief Operations:
They started distributing food packets brought by their fellow volunteers from the neighboring villages and Districts. RSS has supplied food packets to over one lac families in three districts for past 3 days reaching the interior rural areas of Karnool and Mahaboob Nagar. Since the connectivity to Karnool has been cut off, Material is being brought in from Anantapur, Kadapa, Nellore and Raichure of Karnataka
RSS started the relief camps in Karnool town in Saraswati Sishu Mandir and G Pulla Reddy Engineering College. Supplied thousands food and water Packets to the Karnool town from here.
Volunteers from Adoni went Mantralaya cleaned Mantralaya temple and cleared the Dead Bodies of Cows of Goshala and other animals. Many of the dead are the Piligrims to Mantrala Temple . Swayamsevaks(volunteers) has removed these bodies and handed over to the police.
In Hindupur, Sangh is running 5 food preparation and collection centres to support immediately on 3rd October to be sent to Karnool Districts.
In Anantapur, Swayamsevaks started a food collection centre with an intention of Sending 10,000 food packets. With an overwhelming response from the people of Anantapur, the centre could prepare 50,000 packets and other material worth 5 lacs sent for the needy in Karnool district.
In Dronachalam(Dhone), Swayamsevaks sent 50,000 food packets and 1 lac water packets for Karnool.
Volunteers from Nandikotkur went into the villages which went under the water and rescued 45 families and brought them to the safety and gave them food.
Gadwal, A relief Camp is being conducted at TTD Kalyana Mandapam. Food packets are being supplied to 200 Villages.
In Hyderabad , 2000 Swayamsevaks are going around and collecting the funds, food and material which needed for flood affected. Two collection centre are established at State HQ of RSS and Keshav Memorial School . Every Day 4 truck loads of food material, 2 trucks loads of other immediate necessities to flood affected areas. 200 volunteers rushed to the flood affected areas to involve in the hygiene and sanitation work from the city.
Sri Raghavulu, All India Secreatary VHP, visited affected areas and met the volunteers involved in the work in Karnool,
Sri T V Deshmukh , State President of RSS and State Organizing Secretary of Seva Bharati Sri Vidwan Reddy have visited Gadwal relief Camp and met the volunteers working in Mahaboob Nagar.
Second Phase of Relief :
We have surveyed the affected areas of Mahaboob Nagar District and found that 58 Villages are badly destroyed and 16,000 families of many other villages are devastated. The immediate requirement of these families to be settle down to their daily chores is to have their daily necessities. Hence we are planning for supplying the kits to 5000 families which will enable them to start off their living. Each Kit will consists of Kitchen utensils, food grains and material of daily use.
In Karnool District, still 250-300 villages are still under water hence the survey is not yet completed. As far as Karnool Town is concerned, is slowly returning to normalcy. Around Karnool Town 29 villages have been severely affected. We surveyed and serviced 20 villages around Karnool Town .
We are planning to undertake similar steps to supply daily life supporting kits to the people to start their daily routine once we have the final statistics.
Third Phase of Relief :
RSS already initiated planning for rehabilitation devastated people and reconstruction destroyed villages. We identified various means of rehabilitation of people like supplying them implements required for their occupation. Gou Gram Yatra is turning into a mass movement
Gou Gram Yatra is turning into a mass movement
Jammu: (visakeo)October 7: The 108-day Vishwa Mangal Gou Gram Yatra is fast assuming the form of a mass movement in its initial days. The enthusiasm developed by the yatra and the views expressed by the leaders in public meetings have started agitating the people. The speeches of the saint and leaders in the yatra are exhorting the people. On the other hand the subyatras being taken out in many states are awakening the people at the grass root level. The groups of workers are educating the people about the need of cow protection and preservation.
On the first day itself the people waited for hours at the places fixed to welcome the yatra in bright sunlight. The yatra is normally moving late due to the unprecedented reception being accorded by people at different places. People stop the yatra in the middle way and do not allow it move further till they formally welcome the saints and express their commitment for cow protection. People in villages are found happier as they feel that it is for the first time that somebody is fighting for their cause. People from all sections of the society including children, youth, old and women are participating with full vigour and furvour. The yatra has also washed away the image of Indian youth who are depicted as anti-Indian culture by a section of the media. The youth were seen highly energetic for cow and village protection. They are taking interest in getting the information about cow and village protection.
The way the villagers extended welcome to the yatra in Punjab is a clear indication that they are ready to fight for their rights and also for cow protection. The yatra is not only mobilizing the common man for cow protection but is also establishing the fact that the forces committed to restore pride of the nation have not yet weakened. Women in Hisar, Haryana, distributed more than 10,000 food packets to the gobhaktas. An emotional wave has been seen in the areas of Punjab too where the yatra visited. It also received warm welcome while entering in Jammu today, which is considered highly sensitive for security.

Rise like Rama
Rise like Rama
By Tarun Vijay
Rama annihilated the unrepentant wrongdoers and brought cheers to his people. Hence there is Dussehra. What use celebrating it if India is not made invincible and strong enough to punish enemies?
To live with your head high, victory over evil is essential. It makes you moored in the faith that sustains earth. That an Indian satellite found water on the moon made every one of us feel great and Dussehra became more delightful. Success for a good cause. Achievement for noble purposes. But have you ever given a thought why should our people making giant leaps in any field, whether it is science and technology or a Kargil success, make us proud?
What’s the thread that binds us together in Sukh, Dukh, fall or ascent? The only thread is the feeling of belonging to one greater family of India, the civilizational fabric of Hindustan that was described vividly by Swami Vivekananda when he declared in Chicago on September 11, 1893. He spoke about the universal message of the Hindu civilization and became known as the cyclonic Hindu monk of India. He was accepted as a leader who changed the image of India abroad in a positive way. And mark his words, “I am proud to belong to a religion which has taught the world both tolerance and universal acceptance. We believe not only in universal toleration, but we accept all religions as true. I am proud to belong to a nation which has sheltered the persecuted and the refugees of all religions and all nations of the earth.”
The only place on this planet where thousands of years old civilizational values are still practised in their oldest form is India and undoubtedly that civilization is Hindu which has given this world the values of respect for nature and an unbelievable space of freedom for thought. The civilization that is iconized in the virtues of Rama and Krishna, Dussehra and Diwali and Vedas and Upanishads and Bhagavadgita. The flow that makes us celebrate Puja, Navaratra and Bijoya. These are not just meaningless rituals of an illiterate society believing in multiplicity of gods and goddesses and worshipping divinity carved in stones. It’s the most fabulous and living civilization that world can see in the form of highest universal values expressed through the Vedic sages since millenniums. Those who do not read and have no knowledge must not sit on judgment on such a flow of greatest scholarship humanity has ever witnessed which kept the greatest minds of the west mesmerized in awe. Dussehra is not just a symbol of the victory of good over evil, it’s also a symbol of the invincible character and the prowess of the Hindu civilization that has survived the hardest assaults of the Arabs, Turks, Portuguese and British who attacked our nation and destroyed the centres of Hindu faith. But as the Constitution declares, Satyameva Jayate, the truth of this civilization’s inherent goodness, was never weakened or fatigued.
Ironically the very Hindu civilization is facing the greatest threat since its inception from within by those who are seeking power through avoiding the responsibility to protect Hindus and appeasing forces that represent the same assaulters of the yore who had destroyed Hampi and Thanjavur and Kashi. The very word Hinduness, the very appeal to assert the right of the Hindu civilization’s survival, raises eyebrows in the secular power sector and invites a state-supported condemnation. Does that attitude help a healthy social fabric? Is the distrust in the state apparatus to safeguard the all-encompassing Hindu civilizational power stations a positive feature for the nation that is still a Hindu majority and that has its principal identity as a land of the Hindu civilization? Why should anything that depicts a Hindu assertion be taken as anti-non-Hindus?
On the contrary the strengthening of the Hindu core values alone guarantees the survival of the various streams of faith and a weakened Hindu society would result in the de-pluralization of the Indian social fabric as we can see in our neighbourhood.
The state apparatus feels quite comfortable to talk to Hurriyat or the NSCN people who demand secession from our motherland and hence are anti-national. The Muslim League, which divided the nation, gets a berth in the cabinet but have you ever heard, the leaders of the assertive Hindu organizations being invited for a Presidential banquet or an at-home by the Prime Minister on the Diwali eve? Why this kind of an ideological apartheid against those who live and die for national integrity and protect the principal civilizational moors of the land? Why should it be necessary to think the way the state apparatus approves in a democracy and under a Constitution that upholds the values of pluralism? Then what will be the difference between a Stalinist attitude and a pluralistic democracy? Hindu assertions, without any acrimonious feelings for anyone, were never so much looked down and projected as unacceptable, even in the times of the Mughals, as they are being treated now under a hateful secular dispensation, that too in a nation that celebrates Dussehra as a national festival. Is that the right way to honour the spirit of Rama?
Hindus are refugees in their own nation, their number is dwindling and enormous amount of foreign money is allowed to reduce them through deceit and scandalous methods. The worshipped animal cow, which is essentially beneficial for agriculture is slaughtered and exported to Muslim countries and their highest revered temples either stand desecrated from the valley of Sage Kashyap to the land of Sarayu and Ganga or kept under government control disallowing them to run them as per scriptural instructions and with freedom. Why? Who gains by demoralizing the Hindus? What will happen if Hindus become a minority in India? If the only Muslim majority state in India can happily celebrate the dance of democracy by exiling all the Hindus from the valley and making it impossible for any justifiable distribution of the government grants and schemes in non-Muslim pockets of the state, then what will be the state of affairs when India becomes a non-Hindu-majority nation? Dussehra or Vijaya Dashami in times of looming threat from Pakistan and China, and internally from the Maoists, must mean more than burning the effigy of Ravana. The reason behind Dussehra is not a compromising attitude but a steel resolve to protect dharma and bring happiness to people. Can those who shiver in fear of the assaulters and live in their dread showing no intention defang them claim a ticket to Dussehra?
It’s important that such inconvenient questions be asked at Dussehra time and a grand festival of our civilization’s victorious character is not reduced merely into a fun and frolic carnival. Dussehra means victory for the Indian values and nobility of the human soul. That’s the success of dharma. The only point of universal convergence is the belief that goodness alone wins in the end, come what may. Rama, the victorious, shall always remain invincible because he epitomizes the maryada, the noble virtues and the righteousness. There is a Ravana, the evil, in every age and space on this planet and everywhere the faith that keeps society alive is the belief in the victory of goodness, in positive values. Hence Iqbal, the poet who would envision Pakistan at one stage, had called Rama the Imam-e- Hind, supreme icon of India and wrote "kuchh baat hai ki hasti mit-ti nahin hamaari (there is something extraordinary that we have survived the vicissitudes of history while all other civilizations vanished)." That extraordinary element is the belief in the victory of righteousness, the message that is ingrained in the logo of India’s Supreme Court (taken from the Mahabharata): Yato dharmah tato jayah (victory follows wherever there is dharma i.e. righteousness). That’s the character of the India’s soul. Hence the celebration of goodness winning over the evil has continued unabated since time immemorial.
This Dussehra, ask yourself, have you ever thought it prudent to teach your children about the grand heritage of your nation and ancestral knowledge that surpasses the lines of religion and ways of worship? Should it make us feel hesitant to say the truth that everyone in India, irrespective of the religious fault lines, belongs to the civilizational flow that’s epitomized in the legacy of Rama and Dussehra and a victory of good over evil? Shouldn't we be rising like Rama to deserve a Dussehra?

Musharraf should be tried in India for war crimes
Musharraf should be tried in India for war crimes
by Tarun Vijay
"On February 26, 2000, Ilyas Kashmiri reportedly conducted a guerrilla operation against the Indian Army in Nakyal sector after crossing the LoC with 25 militants. He surrounded a bunker and threw grenades inside. He was able to kidnap an injured Indian officer whose throat he later slit, the report said. Ilyas came back to Pakistan with the head of the Indian officer and presented it to top army officials, including then army chief Gen Musharraf, who gave him a cash award of Rs1 lakh."
This was reported by PTI in a story from Islamabad.
That’s Pervez Musharraf, the darling of Delhi’s media and a trusted friend of India’s politicians of all hues and denominations. The butcher of Kargil has been getting too many audiences in Delhi. Now is the time to look back, salute the martyred soldiers and declare Musharraf India’s war criminal to be tried by an Indian army court. Before Kasab gets a fair justice, Musharraf needs to be brought to the question box, minus media cameras.
A state that can’t take revenge for the butchering of its soldiers and fails to assure the mothers that the life and honour of their children is the first priority of the government, no amount of advertising asking Indian youths join the forces would work. Indians don’t join the Army for the lure of the lucre. For most of our families and us, it’s a tradition and a mark of pride to wear the soldier’s uniform, fight the enemy and live and die for India. It’s the ugly politician who never sends his children to fight for the motherland that compromises and bends backwards for Washington’s money and support. Make him feel ashamed of his spineless overtures and build public pressure to demand Musharraf’s extradition so that his butchering skills can be brought to book. And by us. Our criminal must get our justice.
Ilyas, who slit the throat of our army officer was not killed by Indian government’s action but by US drones.
We depend on Washington for everything. Even the black box of the ill-fated helicopter that killed YSR was sent to the US for examination. We don’t have any sense of shame that even this much can't be done in our labs. So we hope that one day the US will teach Pakistan a lesson, it will see that Pakistan behaves and stops terrorism against India. Why can't our leaders take US passports and join electoral battles for a governorship a la Bobby Jindal and make the Indian soil a little relieved? Something that an average Indian knows that India’s battle has to be fought by India on Indian shoulders and Indian strength, can't be understood by the leaders who are supposedly responsible for protecting the Indian honour and lives.
The National Security Adviser speaks a language of a fearful person and not one who instills confidence and courage into the minds of citizens. The newspapers have reported under the headline "Fear of 26/11 attacks", his exact words like this, "Narayanan said that he lives in daily dread of a repeat of the November 26 Mumbai terror attacks, though he added that now India is better prepared.”
Fear should have been transported to Pakistan and it should have been for the ISI chief to say that he lives in daily dread of an Indian revenge. Pakistan must be made to live in constant fear of India’s justifiable punishment rather than the victim shivering in cold fear of an unrepentant aggressor.
That’s what we have been turned into.
No sense of pride in the soldiers’ bravery and achievements.
No war memorial, not a single memorial worth its name for Kargil’s heroes. Rather the government abandoned all celebrations for the Kargil Vijay Divas and has also forgotten to continue with the Bharat Vijay Divas commemorating the 1971 victory resulting in the creation of Bangladesh.
And then the complaint is, we are in the dire need of competent soldiers and officers for our forces. Ha!!
Defence minister A K Antony informed Parliament in July this year that the Indian Army is short of over 11,387 officers, While the Navy was short of 1,512 officers, the shortage in the Air Force was 1,400.
And then what are the measures to attract youths? He said, in a written reply that, "The implementation of the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission, with substantial improvements in the pay structure of officers of the Armed Forces, will go a long way in making the services more attractive."
Does he seriously think that money without honour goes a long way to make a job in the forces more attractive? Does this mindset synchronize with the longstanding traditions and the civilizational moors of a nation where a soldier never dies but is martyred, he is a veer, the brave and having served his motherland goes to the Surya Lok, the highest exalted region of the mighty Sun? Should he be comparing the job of a soldier with that of the babus and the traders and the politicians? It is this attitude that has downgraded respectability for the soldiers’ lives and services.
The officers of the forces were forced to sit on a dharna at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and demand parity with civilian officers, and implementation of "one rank, one pension" principle. Their memorials are ignored, victory days are left uncelebrated, their families run from pillar to post to get their children admitted to good schools, and the entire structure still remains shackled to the ritualism of the pre-Independence British colonialism. Their killers and hate groups are accorded state honours, sent dinner invites and given security at the public expense and then the complaint is, we are not getting enough good stuff for soldiering the nation.
Make soldiering India a matter of honour and respectability. Ensure those who rule India send the best of their children to serve the forces and have guts to take revenge on those who have ill-intentions for our brave.
Surely, bringing Musharraf to Delhi, this time as a war criminal for a trial, will make amends for the past mistakes.

Church terror in relief camps
Church terror in relief camps
PHULABANI:(visakeo)- The Church outrage has reached at its climax in Orissa’s Kandhamal district. The Church, which sponsored the murder of Swami Laxmananda Saraswati, is now planning a big strike on tribal Hindus. The recent bomb explosion in a relief camp has exposed all ugly faces of Church as well as Orissa Government. It seems the Naveen Patnaik Government is all along helping the terror elements in Kandhamal. How bombs came to relief camp? Who was responsible for the explosion? These are few questions remain unanswered. Meanwhile, police so far arrested five persons in this regard. Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar said Patrasa Mallick and his brother Antony, who were injured in the explosion, were arrested after being discharged from the SKCG Medical College Hospital here .Three others had been arrested in connection with the explosion at the rehabilition camp at Nandagiri village under G Udayagiri police station last month in which one person, identified as Ajaya Digal of Rutangia village, was killed. Four firearms were recovered from the spot. The others arrested in the case were identified as Prasant Nayak, Sebak Nayak and Ratnakar Mallick. The arrested persons had been staying in the rehabilitation camp, set up for those affected in the communal riots in the district in the aftermath of the killing of senior Hindu seer Swami Laxmanananda Saraswai and four of his disciples last year.

Late Swamiji had rivals, says Orissa DGP
Late Swamiji had rivals, says Orissa DGP
BHUBANESWAR: (visakeo)-Deposing before the one-man judicial commission, DGP Manmohan Praharaj on Tuesday admitted that slain VHP leader Swami Laxamanananda Saraswati had rivals. “He had some rivals. Those who had opposed his works were his rivals. But he had not been threatened by Maoists. Police had no information regarding that,” said Praharaj. At the time of the murder of Swamiji, Praharaj was the Director Intelligence.
Reacting on it, Justice Sarat Chandra Mohapatra said the DGP’s statement would give a lead to the entire investigation. “I have to find who were the rivals of Saraswati,” he said.
Earlier also, former Director General of Police (DGP) G C Nanda had stated that slain VHP leader Swami Laxamananda Saraswati, whose killing last year led to a large scale violence in Kandhamal, had incurred the wrath of a minority community since he had been opposing the role of Christian missionaries and alleged conversion.
“I have come across various reports from time to time relating to the staunch pro-Hindu activities of Saraswati,” he had stated before the Commission.
"As a result of this, he had become target of the ire of the rival community since he had been opposing what he perceived as the increasing impact of Christian missionaries and alleged conversion in the area," Nanda said in his affidavit before the commission of inquiry probing into the incident.
However, Nanda, who was then DGP when violence erupted in Kandhamal after killing of Saraswati on August 23, 2008, claimed that he did not have any information regarding specific threat to Saraswati from Maoists.
He had maintained that “I believe that Maoists probably expected to get cooperation of minority community in creating a solid base in the district to expand their activities by killing Saraswati.”
