BHUBANESWAR:(visakeo)- The entire Church in Orissa’s Kandhamal were very critical to the activities of late Hindu seer Swami Laxmananda Saraswati, said a police officer while deposing before the Justice SC Mohapatra Commission here.

Hemant Rao, who was the officer-in-charge at Phulbani Sadar Police Station during the communal violence that took place after August 23 last year, told the commission that the late Swamiji was regarded as a messiah by Hindu tribals but minorities disliked him for his campaign against conversion and cow slaughter.

On the other hand, a section of people, particularly minorities, disliked Saraswati’s activities, he said.

“The people in Kandhamal also believed that Hindu religion survived in the district on account of activities of Saraswati,” Rao said during cross examination.
