Case against Chidambaram for 'saffron terror' remark

Case against Chidambaram for 'saffron terror' remark
Ahmedabad: A godman from Gujarat's Patan town Monday filed a case demanding criminal prosecution of union Home Minister P.Chidambaram for his remarks on 'saffron terrorism' that have 'defamed Hindu faith and saints'.

Swami Nijanand, who hails from Radhanpur in north Gujarat, filed the plea under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code in the metropolitan magistrate's court here, contending that saffron is a colour generally associated with saints who cherish the values of non-violence as a principle of faith.

Congress distances itself from 'saffron terror' remarks

'To associate violence and terrorism with it amounts to defamation of the entire phalanx of saints of the Hindu faith,' his plea said.

The plea claimed the statement by Chidambaram on saffron terrorism amounts to defamation of the faith and its saints, both past and present, as well as all religious practitioners.
