Bhubaneswar, October 19, 2006 (VISAKEO): The rapid industrialization in the State has discouraged the farmers and the farming process. The Farmer Union has raised its voice and put the demand before the Government not to support the illegal industrialization on the farming field and nor to allow contract farming in the State. The Kisan Sangh (Farmer Union) has put its proposal in a press conference at local based Panth Niwas in Bhubaneswar on last Tuesday 17th October.
Under the chairmanship of the State Association General Secretary Prafulla Das, the State Association Secretary Pradeepta Rai have appealed the subject like Agriculture and Economics to be introduced compulsorily in the State Board of Secondary Education and Council of Higher Secondary Education. He said to stop the industrialization process on the agriculture land and the government should be aware of the development of agriculture and the condition of the poor farmers. Again the Association has threatened to demonstrate dharana and take part in a long rally in P.M.G Square of the State capital on October 27.
Further, Sri. Prafulla Das has criticized the State agricultural policy where the farmers are the victim of the debt and living in a miserable environment. In addition to the topic, Sri. Rai said to execute the irrigation points and cease the water supply from the Hirakud dam to the industry. He focused on the money collection from the sitting M.L.As and ministers respectively for their constituencies’ development, prohibition of the contract farming in the State and to stop the exploitation of the poor farmers in the name of industrialization. The Farmer Association is not against the development of the industries rather the industries and factories should be set up on other people and farming free lands, he added.
