Delhi will plant one million trees in 07 days
New Delhi (IVSK). Delhi will plant 1 million trees with the help of citizens, RWA, local bodies, trade associations, security forces etc. Delhi Prant of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is also providing assistance in this noble cause from August 15 to 22 by mobilising the public. This was announced at a press conference today by Bharat Bhushan Ji, Delhi Prant Karyavah of RSS.
“Our aim is that the citizens of Delhi not only plant one million trees in this week but they also ensure that the planted trees are looked after properly. We will encourage and involve social organisations at the local level, local civic bodies, security forces and other organisations in this programme,” said Bharat Bhushan.
He further added that those trees which are suitable for Delhi’s climate would be planted during this period. Around 65 such species have been identified which include Peepal, Neem, Jamun, Baniyan, Mango, Amla, Arjun etc. These trees will be planted across the city.
“We have often seen that after planting the trees they are just left in the lurch. So we have decided to that under this programme there would be a guardian for every tree who would ensure that the tree gets regular water and is looked after. At the local level environment committees comprising local residents would be set up who would monitor the upkeep of planted trees,” he said.
“We are confident that in three to four years time when these trees would grow up, they would play an instrumental role in checking Delhi’s pollution and the growing average temperature of the city. This would result in improvement in the quality of life of the Delhi residents and they will get permanently benefitted,” he added.
He emphaised that the RSS is largely playing the role of a Convener. “Our aim is get as many people from the society involved in this programme so that not only they become more aware about the need for environment protection but they also become a stakeholder .”
