Baba nod for workers to join Anna’s strike

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Tuesday said that although as a sanyasi he bears no personal grudges against the Central Government, the nation will never pardon its “inexcusable behaviour” with hundreds of its supporters.

Ramdev also called upon his supporters to join social activist Anna Hazare on his fast in New Delhi from Wednesday even if they must face arrest for doing so.

“Being a sanyasi, I have forgiven the Central Government its behaviour. On a personal level, I have forgiven the injuries done to me and the conspiracy hatched to get me killed,” Ramdev, in his liberal avatar, said while addressing a Press conference at Patanjali Yog Peeth on Tuesday morning.

Ramdev, however, added that the Union Government could not been excused for perpetrating atrocities on more than one lakh innocent people at Ramlila Maidan. “The nation will never pardon it,” he said.

Claiming that hundreds of his supporters are languishing in jails, Ramdev demanded police provide him a list of those in jail or hospital since June 4 night.

A defiant Ramdev added that his supporters will join social activist Anna Hazare on his fast in New Delhi from Wednesday even if they are arrested for doing so. Ramdev condemned the Government’s decision to deny permission to Anna’s proposed fast. “It is an undemocratic move to deny permission to Anna Hazare to go on fast. Even then our workers and supporters will join Anna’s strike,” Baba said.

Ramdev added that he and Anna are in the same boat and fighting for the same cause. “I have spoken to Anna and extended full support to him in his crusade against corruption. My workers will be going to New Delhi to support Anna and we don’t bother even if police try to arrest them.”

He added that he was ready to give his support to all those who are fighting corruption including advocate Shanti Bhusan. “We may differ on certain issues but are struggling to uphold the same cause,” Ramdev said.

The Baba promised to continue his strike “to the end” but requested children and senior citizens to break their fast. “People treat me as a spiritual leader and mentor. I am, therefore, requesting children and the elderly to break their fast.”

Meanwhile, a team of doctors on Tuesday took stock of Ramdev’s health. As per reports, he was suffering from low blood pressure.
