In protest against the Uttar Pradesh Government’s ban on the 84-kosi Parikrama Yatra to Ayodhya called by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), the Bhubaneswar district unit of the VHP on Thursday staged a demonstration in front of the Raj Bhavan here and submitted a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee through the Governor urging him to ensure permission to them to hold the Yatra.
“The UP Government has no right to hamper anybody’s religious right. What the UP Government has done by arresting the frontline leaders of the VHP is totally illegal. We urge the President to ensure a smooth 84-Kosi Parikrama Yatra,” said Bhubaneswar district VHP president Prafulla Chandra Mishra.
The UP police on Sunday last arrested over 1,700 people, including senior VHP leaders Pravin Togadia and Ashok Singhal, to foil the outfit’s controversial Yatra.
Starting on Sunday, the Chaurasi Kosi Parikrama Yatra was scheduled to have lasted till September 13 crossing six districts of Uttar Prades
