Stop reservation to converted tribal, demands Manch

Bhubaneswar:(Visakeo) Janajati Surekhya Manch on Saturday launched a signature campaign in Orissa seeking a complete ban on reservation to converted Christians and Muslims and delete of their names from ST category in the Country. The Manch had earlier launched this campaign in other parts of the country.

Speaking at a Press conference here, Manch national advisor and former MP Moren Singh Purty. He said out of 18% converted (ST), most of the people are getting their previous ST reservation even after joining Christianity and Islam. He further added that 82% beneficiaries only getting 20% reservation as the converted people are getting rest 80%.

“The converted tribal enjoying both ST and minority status, which is unconstitutional and illogical,” Purty added. All the signatures will be submitted to President Pratibha Patil, he added. He said that 15 lakhs signature have been targeted in Orissa. State coordinator Panu Majhi was present in the press meet.
