Government has taken over the governance of 44 lacs 50 thousand temples; but it has not taken over any church or mosque. Only 6 to 7 % revenue from a temple is being spent on the maintenance of the temple; the remaining money is looted by the corrupt. Temple money is given for Haj pilgrimage. As the three pillars of the republic have collapsed; I order to let these pillars function again, judiciary is the best alternative. It is possible to bring back the disturbed status of the governance by legal restraint, expressed Dr. Subramanian Swamy of BJP.
He was addressing the gathering present to attend the series of lectures namely ‘Arpan’, organised on behalf of Rotary Club of Mhapsa. He was speaking on the subject, ‘Is the judiciary, the only way ?’ In his lecture, he narrated about his fight for saving the ‘Ramsetu’ from its demolition and saving the Nataraj temple in Kerala from going into government’s custody.
Dr. Swamy said further that, due to corruption and heavy load of work on them, the people’s representatives do not get time to solve problems of the general public. The Government is absolutely corrupt. Therefore the alternative to approach courts of law in such a situation is appropriate. Therefore in 1981, the judiciary gave the right to approach court to file public interest litigation (PIL) for those who are unable to approach court. Thereafter PIL became the alternative. Filing PIL is prevailing in Bharat only. This is a result of awakening of more and more educated. I filed an appeal opposing the 2-G Spectrum scam. It resulted into court giving an order to cancel the contract of 2-G Spectrum given by the Government.
Examples of justice given to Hindus through legal battle by Dr. Subramanian Swamy
Dr. Swamy said,
- It is true History that Ram had created Setu. Karunanidhi tried to destroy this monument. Hence I proved to the court as to how that project of Setusamudram was expensive by filing an appeal opposing it; hence the court gave a stay to that project.
- Government took the ancient, a thousand 500 year old Nataraj Temple into its custody. The priests appointed for worshipping the Deity were driven away from the temple. Fighting a legal battle, the Government was compelled to hand over the governance of the temple back to the trustees of the temple. To offer ritual worship is the right of any devotee. How can any secular Government manage temples ? Henceforth none of the Governments would dare to manage any temple.
