BALASORE: (visakeo) After its three successful trials last week, Defence scientists today test-fired two indigenously developed surface-to-air nuclear capable Akash missiles from the integrated test range (ITR) at Chandipur-on-sea, 15 km from here.
Defence sources said the sleek multi-target medium range missiles with a strike range of 25 km and capable of carrying warheads of 50 kg each were test fired between 1.45 p.m. and 2 p.m from the launching complex-II of the ITR.
The two missiles targeted toe bodies suspended from an Italy-made pilot-less target aircraft (PTA), which was flown minutes before the launch of the missiles.
Sources said that the test can be termed as 'success' as far as missed distance calculation (MDC) is concerned.
