Forces face Naxalites in forest

BERHAMPUR:(visakeo)- At least one woman Maoist is believed to have been killed in an encounter in the forest near Sukydabaju village in Gudari block of Rayagada district today. The exchange of fire that began around 11 a.m ., continued till 6 p.m.
Rayagada SP Asish Singh said forces of the Special Operation Group (SOG) and Armed Police Reserve (APR) were on a combing operation in the area when a group of Maoists were sighted. The Maoists, reportedly running a camp, engaged the forces triggering heavy exchange of fire that lasted for hours.The Maoists later escaped under the cover of darkness. Police seized five rifles, a huge quantity of live bullets, CDs, one walky-talky set and leaflets. Rayagada SP and Gunupur SDPO Jayanarayana rushed to the spot with additional forces.The body of the slain Maoist has not yet been traced. It is believed the radicals probably took away the body while escaping
