Nun rape accused gets bail in SC, freed from Jail

NEW DELHI/BHUBANESWAR: 60 year old Gajendra Digal, one of the 24 accused in Kandhamal Nun rape case, has been granted bail by the Supreme Court.
Digal, who had been cooling his heels in Phulabani jail since last five years, on Thursday evening released.
23 of the 24 persons accused in the nun rape case got bail. The key accused Mitu Patnaik, yet to get bail.
The catholic Nun was allegedly gang raped in aftermath of killing of Hindu seer Swami Laxmananda Saraswati in 2008.
Communal riots had wreck havoc then killing near about 50 people and leaving thousands homeless for years.
The State Government had instituted a judicial commission to look into the riots issue while Crime Branch of State Police has been looking into Nun rape case. Separate petitions have been filed in High Court and Supreme Court over these two issues.
