RSS expressed deep condolences on demise of of Mysore Maharaj Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar
Mysore/Bengaluru Dec 10: Rashtreeya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has expressed deep condolences on demise of the scion of the Mysore royal family, Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wodeyar, who passed away in Bangalore on Tuesday.
Wodeyar was reportedly suffered a heart attack and was taken to the Vikram hospital. Born in 1953, he was 60 years old.
RSS Sah-Sarakaryavah (Joint General Secretary) Dattatreya Hosabale expressed his deep condolences, said ‘Scion of Mysore Royal family Shri Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wodeyar, former MP died just a few minutes back. May his soul rest in peace ’.
RSS Akhil Bharatiya Boudhik Pramukh Bhagaiah in his condolence message given to VSK, said “My vinamra shraddhanjali at his feet. He was a dedicated soul for our culture and traditions”.
About Maharaja Shri Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar:
Maharaja Shri Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar Bahadur, also named Srikanta Wadiyar (1953 – 2013), was the prince of Mysore Kingdom and head of the Wadiyar dynasty that ruled the Kingdom of Mysore between 1399 and 1950. Wadiyar was also a member of Indian Parliament from the Mysore constituency.
Born in 1953, the only son of Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar, the last ruling Maharaja of Mysore and his second wife, Maharani Tripura Sundari Ammani Avaru, Srikantha Datta Wadiyar succeeded his father as the head of his dynasty in September 1974.
He was elected as a Member of Parliament representing the Mysore Parliamentary Constituency four times as a candidate of Indian National Congress and has lost twice, once as a BJP candidate and recently as a Congress party candidate. He was married to Maharani Pramoda Devi Avaru, who hails from the Bettada Kote Ursu family of the erstwhile princely state of Mysore. The couple have Post-graduate degrees from the University of Mysore in Political Science and Hindi respectively.
He served as President of Karnataka State Cricket Association till November 2010.
He was an acknowledged fashion designer and a promoter of Mysore silk sarees under his Royal Silk of Mysore brand name.
