FIR against Orissa "ministers & MLAs" in horse-trading

Bhubaneswar, Sep 13: The Capital police station today registered an FIR in connection with the alleged horse trading in the elections to Rajya Sabha from Orissa last year.

The FIR was filed on the basis of a direction from the Election Commission to the state Chief Secretary Bijya Kumar Pattnaik after former Union Minister Braja Kishore Tripathy lodged a complaint with the Election Commission alleging horse trading in the last year Rajya Sabha elections.

Official sources said the Joint Secretary in the Home Department today sent the audio CD and letter to the capital police with a request to register a case in connection with the alleged horse trading.

However, no one has been named in the FIR and the police said they will be inquiring into the allegations of some ministers and MLAs involved in the alleged horse trading.

At least two BJD ministers and an MLA were allegedly involved in the horse trading during the Rajya Sabha elections on June 17, 2010.

The issue surfaced after a local television channel played the audio CD purportedly recorded during the election to three Rajya seats from Orissa.
