Role of journalists significant in nation’s development – Dattatrey Hasbole Ji

Mumbai. RSS Sah Sarkaryvah Dattatrey Hasbole Ji said the media, which guides the society, should do introspection on its expressions of watching, speaking and writing. Journalists should bring transparency in their conduct, and set some moral standards for themselves. In order to bring about positivity in the society, the media must highlight whatever constructive is happening around us.
Addressing media persons on the occasion of Narad jayanti at a function organised by the Mumbai ( Kokan prant) unit of the Vishva Samvad Kendra Dattatrey ji said even today there is a section of society that looks for constructive news items. The media must highlight one or two instances of objective role of some teachers, social activists or judges.
He complimented the Vishva Samvad Kendra for starting the practice of observing Narad jayanti and giving awards to media persons on the occasion. When it started it had evoked mixed reactions, but today it has become a prestigious one.
He said the media should gather necessary information and disseminate it for general welfare of the people, the way Narad had done. He said Narad ji  is considered the first journalist in our tradition, though he is depicted humorously in cinema and TV serials. Narad, in fact, is among the outstanding personalities of the world. We should take inspiration from his ideals. He considered news, thought and dissemination as three parts of journalism. Journalists’ job is to dig out new information and provide constructive solutions on matters that come up.
Journalism is a social responsibility, it should not just hover around politics. It should have information about happenings in the socio-cultural areas and about the human life. Many newspapers and TV channels cook up news items, distort facts and carry news items that are more disruptive and cause turmoil. He regretted that this trend has been increasing in the media. Like a soldier on the border, a journalist also faces many problems. The nation today is facing many challenges and big negativity. The journalists should discharge their duty and contribute constructively to the growth of nation keeping all this in mind.
He gave away the Narad award to Ramesh Patange of the Hindusthan Publications and Vivek weekly, Jyoti Ambekar of Doordarshan, Bhalchandra Divadkar of the Dainik Sagar, Shubhangi Khapre, senior editor, Indian Express, Atul Joshi, associate  editor, Dainik Samana and Sriram Vernekar of the Times of India.
