HINDU BODY OPPOSES COW SLAUGHTER ON BAKR-ID

Bhubaneswar,18/9The Sammilita Goraksha Mahabhijan Nyasa, Odisha on Friday warned to gherao the State Assembly if the Government fails to ensure stopping cow slaughter on September 24, 25 and 26 on the occasion of Id-ul-Zuha (Bakr-Id) of the Islamic community.
Nyasa convenor Saint Sri Krushna Das, senior journalist Arun Kumar Panda, social worker Naba Kishore Mishra and Prafulla Rath in a joint Press conference maintained that the Government should enforce the Orissa Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act 1960.

“There is a plan to kill thousands of young cows (heifer) on the Bakr-Id occasion by Islamic community.  Though killing of animals for rituals are banned by rules but this Bakr-Id is being continued under broad legacy,” said Nyasa convenor Saint Sri Krushna Das.
He charged that though the Article 48 of the Constitution emphasises on protection and growth of cattle but neither the Centre nor the State is obliging the same.
“Odisha is first State in the country to enforce cow slaughtering law. We urge the State Government enforce law in true spirit and rescue cattle being kept in many Islamic slums and communities across the State for Bakr-Id. Cow slaughter should be banned in the Jagannath State,” said senior journalist Arun Panda.
He said hundreds of cow lovers would gherao the Assembly on the aforesaid three days at any moment if they come to know about cow slaughtering at any part of the State.
