BHubaneswar,25/9-Saint Srikrushna Das, State convener of the Sammilita Goraksha Mahabhijan Nyaas, was arrested by the police while he was trying to self-immolate here on Friday protesting slaughtering of cows on the occasion of Id-ul-Juha.
Das alleged that the State Government failed to stop cow slaughter despite repeated demands and prayers from cow lovers and his organisation.
“It is really unfortunate to see the State Government’s failure in enforcing the Odisha Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, 1960 during mass killing of cows in the State on bakrid celebrated by Muslims,” Das said. He also alleged that the police arrest cow lovers by lodging false cases instead of checking rampant trafficking and slaughtering of cows. “As the State Government didn’t keep its words to stop cow slaughtering on bakrid, I chose the way of self-immolation,” he added.
