Beeline to Kharipadia for Daru Darshan

JAGATSINGHPUR: Religious fervour gripped Kharipadia village under Raghunathpur block of Jagatsinghpur district after a group of Banajaga Yatris on Sunday tied ‘Patta Bastra’ (yellow silk cloth) around a Neem tree, which is being considered as the holy Daru for carving the idol of Lord Jagannath. They also hoisted a ‘Neta’ (red colour flag) near the tree. The rituals indicated confirmation of the Daru to be used for the idol of Lord Jagannath.
Prior to official announcement by the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration, the six Banajaga team members said the tree has been finalised as the Daru for the Lord. They said the tree has all the holy symbols as per the Nabakalebara manual besides the sign of an elephant head. The team members, who were led by Rabindra Nath Dasmohapatra, said as all the holy symbols have been found on the tree, it has been finalised with tying of the Patta Bastra.
Village chief of Kharipadia Krushna Chandra Mallick said the Banajaga team has visited the holy tree for six times and found holy signs on it. After the team’s visit, the villagers saw two snakes moving around the tree and two white owls sitting on its branches regularly which are considered as good omen, he added.
Following the team’s visit, thousands of devotees visited Kharipadia on Monday to offer prayer by lighting clay lamps to the Daru.
In absence of any official arrangement, the villagers have volunteered to control the traffic and guide the devotees to the site of Daru safely. They have also erected bamboo barricades for smooth darshan.

Sudhansubala Behera, a devotee from Patana village, said white owl is considered the ‘vahan’ of Goddess Laxmi, the wife of Lord Jagannath. “We have seen these two owls since the Banajaga team first visited the tree on April 13. No one had witnessed the owls here before,” she said.
Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Suresh Mohapatra on Saturday said the location for Lord Jagannath Daru would be officially announced on April 30.

Work at Adhanga Resumes

A day after incessant rain hit construction of Sabarapalli and Yajna Mandap at Nilakantheswar temple in Adhanga village under Biridi block of the district, work resumed on Monday. By evening, the construction works were completed. Here, the Daru for Devi Subhadra’s idol has been identified.
The Mukhya Badagrahi (chief body protector) of Devi Subhadra, Ramdas Mohapatra, said the Banajaga Yatra team members will reach Adhanga on April 29, a day after the Sagadi carrying Mahadaru for Lord Balabhadra’s idol leaves Kanakpur for Puri. Rituals like ‘Ankuraropan’ and ‘Daru Sodhan’ at the tree selected for Devi Subhadra’s idol will be performed on April 30, which will be followed by Mahayajna.

‘Sagadi’ Being Readied

At the Sarala temple in Kanakpur, the Sagadi - cart made of banyan, Tendu and tamarind wood - is being readied for transportation of the Daru for Lord Balabhadra to Puri. At least 60 Biswakarmas are on the job. Daru Chhedana (felling of holy Neem tree) for idol of Lord Balabhadra has been completed and ‘Chaupata’ (sizing the log) is on. The Daru will be taken to Puri on Tuesday evening.
