The Sri Jagannath Sanskruti Prachar Samiti, a forum engaged in preaching and spreading the Shri Jagannath cult across the globe, on Thursday appealed to crores of the Lord’s devotees to engage themselves in social and spiritual activities during the Nabakalebar festival, especially on the Brahma Parivartan day of the deities.
“The Brahma Parivartan of the deities will be held on June 15. Let all devotees do fasting and adopt Maunabrata (silence) at least on that day,” Samiti president Rajkishore Sahu told mediapersons here.
Sahu said that during the Ghata Parivartan day, all Brahmins should chant 1008 mantras and conclude it on Amabasya while women should enchant Vishnu Sahasranama and Gopal Sahasranama, Nrushingha and Kshamapana Stotra at any Vishnu temple.
Samiti convenor Surya Rath urged people take a pledge to protect cows and boycott all skin-made products, besides ensuring stopping of use of polythene and plastic products. Shree Jagannath Temple Mahasuar Nijog president Babana Suar urged people to immerse all broken idols and mutilated pictures of Hindu gods and goddesses in water.
“On the day of Brahma Parivartan, there should be strict self restraint and self ban of unethical songs,” added Suar. The Samiti also opposed the decision of the SJTA to ban the Nabajauban darshan of the deities this year.
“We will not allow someone to kill our tradition. We will appeal to the Government to ensure Nabajauban Darshan to public as usual,” said Samiti president Rajkishore Sahu. The Samiti has decided to hold Press conferences in western and southern Odisha on these issues.
