The BMS-affiliated Rourkela Ispat Karakhana Karmachari Sangh (RIKKS), which was accorded recognition by the RSP authorities on April 6, has submitted an eleven-point charter of demands to the RSP management in the interest of the workers as part of its poll commitments.
The demands include provision of quarters to superannuated employees in Steel Township with reasonable rent instead of highest bidding system, opening of more number of schools to provide free education up to +2 level for children of the workers as per the NJCS deal or reimbursement of fees whose children are studying in private schools, appointment of adequate super specialist doctors, nurses, para-medical staffs in the IGH and health centres, provision of basic amenities at rehabilitation colonies and recruitment of workers in permanent nature of jobs instead of contract basis. Meanwhile the RSP has upped its production capacity to 4.5 MT and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to the plant, had praised the contribution of its workers. However, many demands of the RSP’s working class are yet to be addressed.
