Yoga is science, meant for all communities: RSS

Yoga is science, meant for all communities: RSS
Bhubaneswar-Welcoming all to celebrate the recent International Yoga Day, an RSS pamphlet read that yoga, if properly practised, can help realise the Indian dream of Vasudeiva Kutumbakam (The whole world is a family). Yoga, the pamphlet said is not just a physical exercise as it is equally beneficial to the mind, intellect and soul.
“We must realise that yoga is a science,” emphasized Gopal Prasad Mohapatra, veteran Swayamsevak and Karyavaha. Explaining the importance of yogic postures at the RSS regional office here, Mohapatra claimed that Yoga is for everyone.
According to him, a science that aims at the activation of chakras or nerve centres of a human body can’t be restricted to the Hindus only. The body of a Muslim or that of a Christian can equally benefit from Yoga. “Can’t it be said that a Muslim, while offering Namaz, performs Vajrasana and Shasankasana. Traces of Yoga can indeed be seen in most religions,” he added.
Dumping the controversy regarding Suryanamaskara as meaningless, Bipin Prasad Nanda, veteran swayamsevak and Pracharak, said that the Surya Namaskara or sun salutation can well be practised as a physical exercise without reference to the mantras. The Suryanamaskara, which is a composite exercise, containing seven different Aasanas, is said to benefit the stomach, lungs, liver, spleen, intestines and the spinal cord.
The entire body, especially the waist, gains in elasticity and attains youthful vigour by its regular practice. “Suryanamaskar is an essential part of every Swayamsevak’s life,” he claimed.
