ABVP decries ‘biased’ cop action

Bhubaneswar-
The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), on Monday condemned the arrest of two to three of its activists-cum-students for the last week’s violence at the Utkal University campus Vani Vihar.
ABVP State office secretary Manoj Kumar Roul told reporters here that the Commissionerate Police are intentionally targeting ABVP activists who happen to be the students of the university instead of taking action against the so-called ruling party student leaders Chinmay Sahoo and Tanmay Swain for the student unrest.
Roul maintained that though University Students’ Union president Rajesh Raj Swain was seen attacking passersby during the Saturday road blockade near Vani Vihar in the presence of police, they are yet to be booked. He alleged that Swain has taken admission in the university by producing forged documents.
“We demand an impartial inquiry into whole incident as a section of university teachers and some police personnel are supporting ruling party students, thereby destroying the academic atmosphere,” said Roul, adding that the police should take action against all those responsible instead doing partiality.
