Brahma Parivartan Delay A Shame: Rout

BHUBANESWAR: Even as the State Government is on the backfoot over the issue of utter mismanagement in the conduct of rituals during the Brahma Parivartan of Lord Jagannath and other deities, senior BJD leader and Excise Minister Damodar Rout put it into further embarrassment by stating that everybody involved with the delay should be ashamed.
Rout, who expressed concern over the deterioration in the management of the temple affairs to such an extent, said the entire State should be ashamed of this state of things. Even the Muslim general Kalapahada could not do any damage to Lord Jagannath, Rout said and added that the delay in Brahma Parivartan is a serious irregularity for which ‘we should all be ashamed’, he said.
The Excise Minister, who has a habit of putting the Government into embarrassing situation with his statements, however, maintained that the State Government and the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) should not be made responsible for this. “How the State Government is responsible?” he asked and criticised the Opposition parties for trying to politicise the issue.
Meanwhile, the Opposition parties reiterated their demand for stern action against those responsible for the serious mismanagement of the conduct of the rituals of Brahma Parivartan, one of the key rituals of Nabakalebara.
While the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) had demanded resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik following the mismanagement, the State unit of BJP had sought immediate removal of Chief Administrator of the Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Suresh Mohapatra holding him responsible for the matter.
Both the Congress and the BJP had criticised the State Government for trying to gain political mileage out of Nabakalebara by appointing BJD leaders in key positions to monitor temple affairs. Several other organisations had also demanded immediate removal of Minister of State for Law Arun Sahu.
