Shree Jagannath Daru leaves Kharipadia for Puri

jagatsinghpur: The ‘daru’or holy Neem wood meant for carving  the idol of Shree Jagannath  for this year Nabakalebar began its journey from Kharipadia  to Puri on Thursday at 3.30 pm.

The wood was taken by a Sagadi or a specially made cart to Puri from Kharipadia village; Lakhs of devotees were gathered at the site to have a glimpse of the Daru, though Daitapatis and Banajaga members were seen performing rituals before carrying the Daaru in the Sagadi. Till filing of this report Daru Sagadi was passed Raghunathpur Bazar at 11 PM while dispersing devotees from the road  police resorted mild Lathi Charge at Kumbhara Sahi as consequence at least 10 devotees were sustained minor injuries.         

Official information revealed that the Sagadi will connect Cuttack- Paradeep road through Gopalpur village road from Kharipadia and then reach Raghunathpur , The Daru Sagadi accompanists  after a night’s rest at Ramkumarpur will resume their journey towards Cuttack on Friday. People of Kharipadia localities gathered in large numbers to bid adieu to the holy Daru after weeklong rituals, district collector S K Mallick and Superintendent of police Sudha Singh accompanied by senior officials were leading the security arrangements’ and paving the Daru Sagadi on its way. 

The entire stretch from Raghunathpur to Ramkumarpur on either side of the Cuttack- Paradeep state highway was lined up with devotee’s to welcome the holy Sagadi, many were seen sprinkling flowers and found spraying water on road. There were others who laid new Sarees and decorated the road with Rangoli . The sound of conch shells, Ululation, beats of Mirdrangas, cymbals, and chants of Haribol were added the spiritual flavor; the devotees were overwhelmed at the Darshan of the Daru of Shree Jagannath.    

The situation at Ramkumarpur where the site Lord Jagannath’s Daru has been identified to take a night rest on Thursday, is no different as devotees are converging at the place for the Darshan of the grand Daru, while the region falls under Cuttack district, elaborate arrangements have been made by the administration and police for making the smooth Darshan of Daru.

After Shree Jagannath Sagadi delayed one day causing non completion of Daru Chaupata works and controversy erupted among  Banajaga members selecting holy day for Sagadi departure on Thursday, many residents of Kharipadia village on Thursday raised objection leaving the Daru Sagadi on unholy Masaanta day , acting on the locals antipathy civil officials and Banajga members held discussion with villagers and clarified them that no problem persists starting Yatra on Mansaant day and described it as a holy day, later villagers agreed leaving the Daru Sagadi .

 Meanwhile villagers were submitted a memorandum before collector demanding construction of a Shree Jagannath temple at the Daru uprooted site on the village outskirts , rebuilding the club house which had earlier demolished for paving holy Daru rituals, Collector S K Mallick assured the villagers he will take up the matter with SJTA chief administrator Suresh Chandra Mohapatra  for fulfillment of their demands.
