‘ORT GARAGE SITE IS RIGHT PLACE TO RUN COLLEGE’

BRAHMAPUR(VSK)The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organised an open debate here on Sunday on the issue of the proposed shifting of the century-old Plus Two Khallikote Junior College from its old building to a location on the outskirts of the city.
It may be noted that various organisations, political outfits and student bodies have been opposing the shifting decision of the State Government tooth and nail for months now. The ABVP, which has been demanding reconsideration of the decision, invited a galaxy of leaders and intellectuals to the debate to arrive at a logical conclusion on the issue.
BJP leader Rama Chandra Panda, BJY leader Shiva Shankar Das, Ganjam Bar Association president Sisir Kumar Padhi, Prof Ramesh Chandra Tripathy, ‘Forum for Ganjam’ president Prof Pramod Kumar Sahu, Govind Chandra Das, local MLA Dr RC Chyau Pattnaik, former Principal of Brahmapur Homeopath College Dr Prasant Pati, KC Town High School Headmaster V Venket Rao, BDA Chairman Subash Chandra Maharana and a band of intellectuals, scribes, academicians, and senior citizens kept their respective views on the issue.
Panda, also former State Assembly Deputy Speaker, slammed the Government for suppressing democratic agitation of students on the issue and demanded an immediate rollback of its decision and construction a new building with all modern facilities at the ORT Garage premises, adjacent to the Khallikote Cluster University, to run the Junior College.
MLA Chyau Pattnaik said constructive suggestions made at this public debate would be conveyed to the Government for consideration.
BJY leader Das said students, who now attend classes without depending on the local transport, would face problems if the college is shifted to a distant place.
Some speakers opined that there is shortage of teachers in the Junior College. Now +3 lecturers are taking classes for them. They would not be able to do so if the college is shifted. Hence, the ORT Garage spot would be the right place to run the college.
