22 writer's forum of odisha protested the Akademi awards return

Bhubaneswr,25/10(vsk Odisha)The return of Sahitya Akademi awards by a host of writers in the backdrop of the murder of Kannada writer, scholar and rationalist Dr MM Kalburgi has been condemned at a meeting of litterateurs here.
Describing it as “politicisation of literature”, the speakers of the meeting, which was held by Viswa sambad kendra, odisha Lekhaka Manch, said some writers are doing this as they are fast losing their relevance and their ideologies have few takers. They cautioned that people should not be influenced by the act of these writers who are trying to disrespect the Akademi and lower the dignity of the cultural and literary heritage of the country by returning the awards to register their protest against the infringement of right to free expression.
These writers are spreading wrong notion about the Central Government in the country and outside by saying that there is much social unease after there are reports of the inhabitants of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir seeking to get reunited with India. These writers who claim them to be votaries of civil rights and free expression did not speak a word during the attack on the Hindus in the Jammu and Kashmir and 1984 riot. Similarly, they also chose to remain mum when writers like Salman Rushdie and Taslima Nasreen had to face boycott and communal wrath for their writings.
The meeting was attended by 22 literary outfits including Odisha Lekhaka Lekhika Parishad, Aranyaka, Ekamra Sahitya Sansad, Biswa Sambad Kendra Lekhaka Manch, Madhura Bharti, Jatiyatabadi Sahitya Parishad and Bharatiya Sahitya Kendra. Niranjan Padhi presided.
